That's what I was worried about. I took lessons from a guy who went to BIT, and I knew more about a number of aspects of music than he did. I'm not talking about knowing types of music or bands, I'm talking about music theory. I know very little about music now, and back then I knew even less. I'm pretty damn sure that I'm a better player now, in my junior year of college, than he is having already graduated from a "music school." That's my experience with Musician's Institute, and it doesn't say much about him as a player.

Having never listened to Avenged Sevenfold, could someone enlighten me on who they are and why it is apparently not "proper" to listen to them?
