Side Projects

(1/5) > >>

Spinless:
Go on, name some of your favourite side projects, who they're to the side of.
Why's it different to the 'other band'? Is it better than the 'other band'?
Sometimes, I don't see the point of side projects, they sound an awful lot like the artist's other bands. Though I suppose it's an excuse to release more of the same for artists who can't stop writing.
That said, I would love it if somebody could hook me up with some kc accidental.

Am I being too obvious here?

penpen17:
I'm going to go with the obvious and say the Postal Service - side project for Ben Gibbard (DCFC) and the DNTEL guy (sorry, don't know his name and I'm too lazy to look it up).  Oh, and I think Jenny Lewis does the backup vocals?

Also, another obvious one, Broken Social Scene, which is a side project for just about every indie musician in Canada (I swear, they're like the borg)

edit:  the members of Broken Social Scene that I can think of that have main projects off the top of my head are Feist, Emily Haines and James Shaw from Metric, and Amy Millan and Torquil from Stars.

Thrillho:
I think Jackson United is one of the best side projects ever. Foo Fighter guitarist Chris Shiflett makes sun-soaked, anthemic guitar-pop. It's gorgeous.

Misereatur:
Tomahawk.

Mike Patton's side project with John Stanier (Helmet), Kevin Rutmanis (Melvins) and Duane Denison (Jesus Lizard)
Althogh I'm a huge fan of Patton, this is my favorite side project of his.

I have thier Second Album, and its absolutly amazing.
Mix's electronic music, with metal, grunge, Faith No More stuff like Angel Dust, King for a Day, and Album of the Year, and ofcourse  - Patton's insane vocals.

Their albums are released on Patton's lable Ipecac

Der Golem:
Yeah, Tomahawk are pretty rad. And since we're on the subject of Patton collabarations I have to mention Fantomas. Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle), Buzz Osbourne (The Melvins) and Mike Patton teaming up to make some f'ed up noise.
