Faith No More are wonderful, although they're definitely not straight-up metal. Angel Dust is a pretty metal album, though. You can't go wrong with Iron Maiden, and lately I've been enjoying Mastodon and Slayer. Tool are also good, if you don't mind Maynard's cryptic psychobabble.

So wait... you find doom less sleep inducing than any other types? How the hell does that work?
Isis is fucking great, as is Pain of Salvation. I still haven't been able to find anything by Skyclad.
