Held at Macquarie Square, with tiny stages and crowds too big for the area. Still, it was most enjoyable.

Pivot - only saw a few songs, seemed good, as they usually do, but the girls I was with went to see

Pretty Girls Make Graves, so I did too. Should have stayed and watched Pivot though, they were better. We were too far Back to see anything, and they really didn't sound interesting.

Then Wolf and Cub, who, despite my attempts to enjoy them, were pretty fucking horrible. You like distortion guys? Well you distorted my eardrums. Ruined my ears, even though there were louder acts, none grated like these guys did. Its also pretty amazing how they use two drummers to do less than what one good drummer could do.

The Drones were really really really good. We'd moved right forward by this point. To anyone who saw the gossip over these guys - LOL. They're a band from Melbourne, so you overseas people probably don't know of them, but they play a sort of bluesy kind've of stuff, I suppose. I'm so terrible at reviews :(

Les Savy Fav were also incredible. Before they started, one of my friends said, "I bet Tim gets up on that wall", pointing at a tall wall down one side of the lane hthe stage was in. By the second song he was up there. He's like a fat naked ninja. Those few jerks in the crowd were jerks, but eh, nothing could spoil that set. If you ever get a chance to see these guys, DO IT.

Then I went a got a hotdog. It was pretty good.

Decoder Ring were as amusing as a golf tournament. Perhaps it was because we were so far back.

Some hardcore sneaking forward got us right down the front for Broken Social Scene, who were absolutely awesome. They did all fit on the stage, somehow! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this set too. It wasn't long enough - about an hour I guess, I should have gone and seen them the night before at their own show, but I couldn't afford both. Anyway, they said something about BDO, so maybe they'll be back.

instead of Decoder Ring you should have come over and watched Clare Bowditch.  she was freaking awesome.  she is very charismatic, and woos the crowd.  i think she winked at me (or at least in my direction, anyways) twice.  her music was pretty good, and she was totally having an awesome time on stage and giving off a really cool vibe.

Heather and i were there, we saw New Buffalo, Clare Bowditch, the tail end of Decoder Ring (who were all kinds of different to how i remember their sound - granted i don't have the new album, but whatever), Broken Social Scene & The Avalanches.

man, be glad that you were up the front for BSS.  Heather and i were kind of mid-way back and there were a bunch of fucking idiots there drinking and pushing people about causing a ruckus.

the Avalanches dj set was all kinds of fucking awesomes though.  they somehow mixed Living on a Prayer into it without it sounding bad.  fucking hott.

See, that's why you have to go and see Broken Social Scene at their stand-alone gig, instead of at the Laneways.  'Cause then the majority of the crowd are there only for the band, instead of to be seen or whatever.  I saw them in Melbourne and they were super-terrifically awesome.

Almost as super-terrifically awesome as the fact that Vulgargrad are once more playing at the Old Bar in Melbourne.  Sweet!

I wanted to see Bowditch, but a good spot for BSS was a bigger priority. She tours all the time anyway.

yeah, apparantly the (one) Perth BSS gig was like concentrated awesome. Except for the people talking through New Buffalo's set.

Dammit I wish I was there, but I'm 18 as of today so no more excuses to miss a show.

I can't believe the number of bands touring Australia this year.  I was all psyched to book tickets for Belle & Sebastian this morning - until I found out the tickets were $76.  Seriously, fuck that.

I was all psyched to see them last Friday, but I got called to work on early Saturday morning and wasn't able to make it. I read the review the next day, and it seems like the concert was pretty much the most insane collection of stage antics ever :(

I wish I'd gone on The Popfrenzy cruise on the saturday. Apparently it was fantastic, but I missed out on the cheap tickets, and couldn't afford it after they went more expensive. awww :(
