So who else has seen this amazingly funny show? Love it? Loathe it? It was shown on Channel 4 a few years ago but a lot of people missed it (including myself) due to it hardly being advertised/dodgy time schedules.

Fortunately, my boyfriend's brother sent him a DVD with the episodes on and I saw it for the first time last week and promptly fell in love with it.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, it's about the oh-so-hilarious supernatural goings on in a hospital. It's based around the stories of a Stephen King-esque writer called Garth Marenghi who takes his work very seriously. The series itself is made to look as if it's been made in 80's, so a lot of the comedy comes from the cheap production values and (purposely) wooden acting.

GOD. I HATE YOU BRITAIN. STOP HAVING ALL THE GOOD TELEVISION. IT'S NOT MY FAULT THAT OUR POPULOUS DECIDES IT WANTS "SKATING WITH CELEBRITIES".

Seriously.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

Ooh!  It's just about to start screening in Australia for the first time next Monday.  I'm looking forward to it.  There's an "interview" with Garth Marenghi in this week's Sydney Morning Herald T.V. guide.

I seem to remember I loved the first episode and thought it went kindof downhill from there but still had moments of genius...  If you get the chance to see his stage show it is *incredible*, he was still touring it in the UK a year or two ago (they actually did let me take advantage of their 2-for-1 offer too:).

'Hi, I'm Garth Merengi and I'm one of the few people you'll meet who's written more books than he's read.'

'She was like a candle in the wind...unreliable.'

I found the funniest bits were the interviews with the 'cast', they should have had more of them.  Also, I liked it when the black guy got his shotgun out in the first two episodes, for no real reason.  I think they should have made that a recurring thing.

Incidentally, that guy is going to be in a new channel four comedy 'The IT crowd'.  The teaser advert made it look like it could be good, but the proper trailers make it look a bit shit.

Yeah, i recognised the guy in the IT Crowd trailers too. You're right about the trailers making it look a bit pants but i'm willing to give it a chance as it's penned by the mighty Graham Lineham.

Incidently, that guy (i should really find out his name) used to be in The Mighty Boosh too. Well, for the stage version of it, i think.

Aw, Inlander, you're in for a treat. It's a very funny show. Especially the Scotch Mist (a mist made out of old Scottish Warriors) episode.

that show was really fucking funny. if you love ridiculously low production values and comically bad acting you should really head over to www.channel101.com because that enitre website is based on that premise. it's really the most fun you can have... i guess after ice skating or fighting vampires.

I saw it for the first time the other day.
It has actors from The Mighty Boosh in it! :D
And, it is just really funny...
I loved the whole "I went for a drive to clear my head. That's why i'm now in a car." voice over/narration. And the 'car' is in a room covered in  black fabric.

I'm ashamed to say that I fell asleep during it. I do remember everything Gareth Merengi said being absolutely fucking hilarious though.

I really hope they come up with something else to follow it through.  There's just something about having really far-out fake plots that made it so damned funny.

I really should sleep.

y'know I was unfortunate to catch (and spend all night watching) the film series 'Phantasm'. Surely Darkplace takes inspiration from these ...ergh... films.
They are pure shite in my opinion but have kitsch comedy value ^_^
