This is just a question and me hoping you don't call me emo continuously.
So just a fun question.
(I'm going to be a happy nija if no one ays option 3. :-)
-
(Don't care, they sound like all the other bands)
Google tells me that one of them wears nice hat though.
And some forums tell me that it's because he is balding...
If you're balding, you're too old for 'pop-punk'. Fallout Boy fail!
Also, next time you do this, don't make it a poll like this one, because it just invites people to come in and slag off the band. That doesn't make a fun discussion. Unless it's me doing the insults, then it's awesome.
-
The new Fall Out Boy single is a new kind of bad. It's really one of the most awful songs I've ever heard contain guitars, or any instruments.
However, Fall Out Boy has several good songs. One of them is called "A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More 'Touch Me'"
Still, they're a pretty boring band. Not a lot is going on in their songs, and they're not terrible clever. I prefer Brand New's first record as far as high school pop-punk goes.
-
They had a song on the NHL 06 soundtrack that was decent, but I can't remember what it was called.
-
Personally, I think they're terrible, and calling them emo would be a compliment (as emo implies they are in some way related to a number of very talented emocore bands). I have only heard their singles for the most part, and not one of them has stuck me as remotely imaginative or compelling. They seem to get a lot of press for being "clever" and making jokes at their own expense, but their music is too boring and daft to meet the qualifications of clever. I remember a few years back, before they became big, a friend of mine kept preasuring me to listen to them, saying they were amazing. I'm really quite happy that I didn't.
-
I've only heard "This Ain't a Scene" or whatever and, um, yes. Well. I know people like to throw around things like "worst song ever" but it honestly made me laugh in a way I haven't laughed since Limp Bizkit.
But, hey, whatever's cool with you. If nothing else, Fallout Boy serves a purpose in that whenever someone accuses me of being a music snob I can honestly say "I am not, I have a friend who listens to Fallout Boy and I don't even make fun of him for it".
Also, he has an emo haircut. That, I do make fun of him for. :-D
-
What's this here, Tommy? No link to the Quiki page? I say man, you're getting old!
-
Nickel Creek covered a Pavement song.
I'm just sayin'.
-
What does that have to do with anything??
-
What does that have to do with anything??
Fall Out Boy covering Jawbreaker struck me as roughly as strange as Nickel Creek covering Pavement.
-
They had a song on the NHL 06 soundtrack that was decent, but I can't remember what it was called.
Something about lawyers. I think the song is crap though. Along with all other Fall Out boy stuff. If you're going to take a name from a character on The Simpsons and call your band that, at least make some half decent music.
-
Fall Out Boy has nothing special to it at all, it's just... generic.
-
I've only heard a few Fall Out Boy songs, and while I haven't really dislked them, I never became a fan of them, not to say they don't have musical talent. I just think it depends on what the listener is used to.
-
I bought a CD of theirs for a girl. And then deleted them off my computer.
-
What does that have to do with anything??
He's saying that the FB cover of Jawbreaker probably sucked.
-
Okay guys.
Fall Out Boy make decent pop music. Really there is nothing wrong with them besides being mildly formulaic but if you're willing to forgive that somewhat then they are an okay listen when they enter your ears! They are not the pinnacle of rock but they are pretty decent songwriters!
-
Johnny, please take a look around you to see if you can see any crack paraphernalia. If you can, please listen to Rush. I hear they're awesome when you're on crack.
-
One night me and a bunch of friends did a lot of coke and listened to Mogwai and A Silver Mt. Zion for like eight hours.
Yeah, that was kind of a weird night.
-
Dude you are so cool?
-
Not really. Cocaine is not a drug I'd recommend.
But hey, I didn't pay for it.
-
I steadfastly believe that Rush have their moments.
-
Fall Out Boy are bad, but they're one of the better bands of the current clutch of emo soundalikes. Their song titles and lyrics are utterly ridiculous, excluding one line I like from 'Sugar, We're Going Down' (a song which I'll freely admit is a decent pop song), which is 'I'm just a notch in your bedpost but you're just a line in a song.'
And musically, the new one's okay. But the lyrics are still ridiculous and the video annoys the crap out of me. When the bass player kisses that chick, I want to punch him for some reason. But then I want to punch him at the best of times.
There aren't many emo bands I'll willingly endorse though. Funeral for a Friend's old stuff, The Junior Varsity...
-
Maybe I phrased it wrong.
Fall Out Boy are literally not bad.
-
(http://www.simpsonspark.com/images/caracters/milhouse_falloutboy.jpg)
-
I steadfastly believe that Rush have their moments.
and I steadfastly repeat that those moments are known as ALL OF THEM.
-
Fallout Boy not bad? This thread is crazy. Daniel? Daniel? Ferg!

Greg, you are over the edge. You need to see someone.
-
not bad?
Let's re-examine this, shall we? What it means is that they are not bad. This does not mean they are good. It just means they are not bad. Hence, I used the word "literally." I don't mess around with the word "literally," man. That word is heavy.
-
Patrick Stump does indeed wear an awesome hat. i had one that made me look like him, but i left it at someone's house. :(
However, Fall Out Boy has several good songs. One of them is called "A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More 'Touch Me'"
i don't really like that song. i like the music video because they're all vampires though <.< >.>
FOB's first album "Take This To Your Grave" was much better. it was before they became huge pop icons, and just was much better on the whole.
"Sending Postcards From A Planecrash (Wish You Were Here)" is FOB's best song. in my opinion
There aren't many emo bands I'll willingly endorse though. Funeral for a Friend's old stuff, The Junior Varsity...
Funeral For a Friend is Post Hardcore and The Junior Varsity is a sort of indie/alternative/punk blend. The Junior Varsity is also one of my favorite bands ever. one of their guitarists has the raddest name ever: Sergio Armando Coronado
-
Triple post? The modify button still works.
Fall Out Boy is in no way good music, but they are good at writing catchy pop songs.
They also did an acoustic cover of Love Will Tear Us Apart.
-
"My Chemical Romance sure do have skin!"
-
To be fair, I am sure they have dealt with issues such as breakups, alcohol, drugs, and disagreeing with their parents. It could be said that sometimes this leads to people writing music.
-
Translation: "My Chemical Romance sure went through adolescence!"
-
Perhaps.
-
Fall Out Boy, and the fact that they are for some reason to a certain extent the music that "kids these days" listen to, just make me grin ruefully and shake my head. Nothing but a head shake and a rueful grin. That's all.
-

Junior Varsity are very much emo in places, definitely on Wide-Eyed, which don't get me wrong, I think is a fantastic album. FFAF became less post-hardcore and more emo as they went on. The early stuff is heavier, darker and better; the latter stuff is emo as fuck, and not very good.
-
"I don't like them at all" was not an option, so I'm going with "I don't care." I'd be a hypocrite if I called you emo for liking them, because I just made a reference in another thread to someone being allowed to like whatever music they like as long as it genuinely moves them. So, if it's your thing, then just love it fiercely and I'm okay with that. But that doesn't mean I like them.
-
Meh, they're okay. Their music doesn't stir anything in my soul, but they have some fun, catchy songs.
I guess what I'm saying is that I'd download a song or two, but I wouldn't buy an album.
-
"My Chemical Romance really did engage in sodomy!"
-
I didn't know people still listened to the Junior Varsity! Weird.
I had to post in this thread. It had all the makings of genius and sheer comedy. I must say I was a little disappointed. Oh well.
I can listen to about 4 to 5 songs off the Take this to your grave album. That's about all any retional human being should have to be put through anyways. And emo?
-

FFAF's stuff off of "Hours" did get softer. but i thought some of it was still good. Wide Eyed is definetely a fantastic album, and yeah, i guess they are emo in places, but i hate it when people say "oh, that's emo", because emo is just short for "emotional" is it not? we all have emotions (well, most of us anyways), which means you could call something like...Celine Dion emo if she wrote a song about being heartbroken. right?
-
That sure is a quote tunnel!
-
I sure am posting in this thread.
Johnny C sure is one sexy Cannuck.
Tyler is still my one true love.
ALL TRUE!
-
Gee, I always wondered what you guys meant about "good boarding."
-
Delete the last two words of their name and add a "the" to the front.
-
my band covers dance dance, i love that song, i don't own any music by them because i dislike their other originals.
I don't think they're THAT emo, i mean the HAT...HAT!
Also the love will tear us aprt cover isn't bad =]
-

You just lost the right to talk.

Hours had some decent singles. 'History' is lovely. But even the first album is too commercial for my tastes. The EP stuff was a good balance between heavy and light, and it was darker in places. Only 'Bullet Theory' and '10 Scene Points To The Winner' (a b-side. If you don't have it, I do, and you should get it, because it's brilliant) really covered that later on, and maybe 'You Want Romance.'
And don't get into the whole 'd00d emo means emotional lol' argument, there's no point. It's a redundant argument.
-
meh...i thought it was a valid arguement. my point was we all have emotions, just some of us ("emo" bands in this case) express it in a fashion that some might find overly dramatic.
-
of us ("emo" bands in this case) express it in a fashion that some might find overly dramatic.
No, that doesn't work, because then A Silver Mt. Zion would be considered an "emo" band and that would just be wrong.
-
It's not a valid argument. Because 'pop' means 'popular.' 'Post-rock' means after rock, and rock hasn't gone away yet. etc.
-
'Post-rock' means after rock, and rock hasn't gone away yet. etc.
Not that I like the term post-rock, but what about post-modern? I mean, that's generally accepted as a valid term, and it's impossible to be "post-now" if you take the term literally, right?
-
You appear to be arguing with me when I was agreeing with you.
-
Not arguing, just wondering, really.
I don't like any labels which are essentially meaningless. Like "space rock". Oh rly? Rock that was discovered in a crashed UFO, style of fing?
-
Well there's meaningless and then there's meaningnless. In a literal sense, all those labels are bollocks, but they apply to their genres.
-
I LIKE ARGUMENT CIRCLES TOO GUYS!
STOP BEING EMO, GUYS!
-
I always considered Hours, and to a lesser extent, Casually Dressed to be moving away from Post-Hardcore, and rather than towards emo, more to be moving towards straighter Rock n Roll, with melodic metal and post-hardcore influences. I expect the new album, particularly the way the members of the band have been talking about it in their Studio Diary, to be a further continuation of this.
Essentially, I consider the way FFAF have been progressing to be a sort of liberation from genre and instead just focusing on good song-craft.
-
Everyone knows the only things that ever happen on forums are argument circles and circle jerks.
-
I notice the poll doesn't have an option for not liking Fall Out Boy. What kind of crazy democracy are you running here?!
-
Zerodrone, you forgot memes! Memes are important too. Oh, and the undergroup PM porn circle.
-
I don't think they're THAT emo, i mean the HAT...HAT!
They aren't Emo at all.
-
i'm confused, is that sarcasm?
-
No. They are most certainly not emo in the slightest.
www.quiki.net/emo
-
Kai when did you get that many posts?
And they totally are emo.
They're emo, and they play shitty, mindless pop crap. Let me say that again for those in the crowd who are hard of hearing.
SHITTY
MINDLESS
POP CRAP
They capitalize on the desire to appear different while completely undercutting any kind of substance that could still exist in the dying american counter culture.
-
And they totally are emo.
They're emo, and they play shitty, mindless pop crap. Let me say that again for those in the crowd who are hard of hearing.
Could you please elaborate on how they are Emotive Hardcore?
-
Dude you missed the point.
The point is that we should not be talking about this band anymore. The point is you don't need to quote the posts directly above you. The point is that as much as I know this is hard to believe, the definitions of words do change and emo today is different from when your world stopped turning in the late 80's early 90's as much as that might be hard for you to believe, you might just have to deal with it
But mostly we aren't talking about this band anymore.
-
Could you please elaborate on how they are Emotive Hardcore?
Oh boy, here we go.
I'm staying the fuck out of this one.
-
Fall Out boy are hardcore because they live hardcore. They breath hardcore.
as for emotive, when they wrote their own band name on the margins of their high school english essay they drew little sad faces in the O's.
-
There are still bands that play with Emotive Hardcore roots in their sound.
But, if I were to believe you, has the sound of rock changed? Metal?
Most bands labeled "Emo" today aren't even close in sound. MTV and Fuse started this whole "Thursday is a great Emo band" thing, and it spread like wildfire. Bands today with the label can be classified by other genres, and ones they fit into better.
-
But, if I were to believe you, has the sound of rock changed? Metal?
Um. Yes? Metal went from meaning "Blue Cheer and Black Sabbath" to meaning "Iron Maiden" to now meaning stuff like Mastodon.
Fuck, I said I was staying out of this.
Anyway, you may not want to begin your posting history on this forum by snobbishly bringing up a stupid argument we have all heard about NINE BILLION TIMES BEFORE.
-
I'd be interested, but we aren't talking about his band anymore. If you want to start a thread and talk about emo vs "emo" vs mallcore, whatever, go for it. But we are not talking about this band anymore. We are better than a two page thread about Fall Out Boy.
-
So how about them sports teams
they are pretty awesome, right guys?
I especially like all of them
because none of the teams have Fall Out Boy in them
-
We can start declaring when we're done talking about bands?
Good. I'm done talking about Coil. We're done talking about Coil. I know they're great and all, but everything to write about them here has already been written! Same with Sufjan Stevens. And TV On The Radio. And Joanna Newsom. And every band from the seventies, eighties and early nineties because what's the point in talking about things that don't exist anymore? And really, every band that is mentioned in the 2007 albums thread we're just going to talk about over and over even if they release shitty albums so we should just quit while we're ahead.
While we're at it, this whole music forum's probably just a collection of thoughts that could be written elsewhere. Why bother having it at all, I say.
-
I was going to talk about how Devin Townsend looks like those Trolls from the movie "Willow," but all I could find were pictures of Devin and not much of the trolls. Thus, my topic was dashed against the rocks of non-existence.
Unless, you know, anyone wants to talk about how Devin Townsend is the coolest looking mo-fo out there, in a totally troll-like way. ;)
-
In an attempt to end arguing...

-
In an attempt to end arguing...
ZOMG HEVY DEVY
(http://www.rocknheavy.net/devy/band.jpg)

When I was 12 I was listening to Dire Straits, Violent Femmes, Dead Milkmen, Jane's Addiction and Guns-n-Roses.
But I was also listening to Poison, so yeah. Cut the guy a break.
-
The kid that started this thread is a decent kid. He's only 12 and I'll bet Fall Out Boy are a damn sight better than what you were listening to at that age.
I dunno man. Fallout Boy are pretty much the dregs.
-
I can probably think of a dozen bands off the top of my head which are infinitely worse than Fall Out Boy. I'm not naming them because it'd be a dick move.
-
Fall Out Boy make decent pop music. Really there is nothing wrong with them besides being mildly formulaic but if you're willing to forgive that somewhat then they are an okay listen when they enter your ears! They are not the pinnacle of rock but they are pretty decent songwriters!
Agreed. I basically listen to Fallout Boy when I need my pop fix... otherwise, I listen to everyone else. I think I have too broad a taste in music to see a problem with them (or any band for that matter)
-
. . .to act like a dick.
I'll bet Fall Out Boy are a damn sight better than what you were listening to at that age.
Alright, I'll give some recommendations. If he likes Fallout Boy he should try to get into The Thermals. He also might like Bad Religion, though if I were him I wouldn't touch any mid-nineties BR. Go for the more recent albums or the old stuff. He probably would like Sleater-Kinney, too. And early Propagandhi. And if he likes that, go for later Propagandhi. More to come. . .
-
He should listen to this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQpN-guhQq4
-
Honestly though, what's so bad with them? They're just a band. Simpy because they have a different style than you like doesn't mean they're bad. If they were bad, they wouldn't sell as many records as they do, would they? :-D
-
Please sir, I implore you not to use the "that's just your opinion" tactic.
-
Alternatively, and this is just me talking here.
A dude who wants to discuss Fall Out Boy, and is 12 years old, would probably be better served going to a forum that is not a. typically very R rated, and b. about characters who would typically mock Fall Out Boy relentlessly. There is no reason for this thread to be here, and there is honestly not much of a reason for a 12 year old to be here. There are many many places on the internet where one could talk about Fall Out Boy. This does not need to be one of them.
Oh and get those albums that dude reccomended. They have similar sensibilities to the Over Produced under talented drivel you like now, but they accompany those sensibilities with actual musical talent.
-
Thank you. I was going to make that point, but I have a very short attention span and I forgot to do it.
-
Please sir, I implore you not to use the "that's just your opinion" tactic.
That's all people have been giving anyways.
I'm not going for the "that's just your opinion" tactic (not trying to at least)
I just don't see the big deal in saying that they're bad when they're obviously not. It'd probably be smarter to say "I don't like them" instead of "they're a bad band".
and Johnny Katz: 'tis the internet. Don't restrict who goes where unless you created it.
-
They are a bad band. They're a money machine with no interest in the art side of music. I would be much happier if Fallout Boy and I never crossed paths in our respective lives.
-
I just don't see the big deal in saying that they're bad when they're obviously not.

I just don't see the big deal in saying that they're bad when they're obviously not.

I'll think I'll go back to what Johnny C was saying:
They're not bad, but they're not good. XD They're just a band. They sell records. If they were bad, they wouldn't sell records.
Now, Flaming Ostrich, I agree that they're probably not in it for art, but that doesn't make them a bad band. Hell, that doesn't even make them bad musicians. They're sellable, so people must like them.
*sigh* It's probably not a good idea for me to try and throw myself into a debate about a band I'm not a fan of  I'll just throw in the towel at this point, before I get in over my head.
-
If they were bad, they wouldn't sell records.
That, sir, is a lie of epic proportions.
-

Dude. I don't like them because they are a bad band. And basically, dude, I reserve the right to tell anyone to get off the internet if they are being retarded. Kind of like you are right now.
-
That, sir, is a lie of epic proportions.
lie, exaggerated truth. potayto, potahto.
-
mr-pharisee, did you by any chance do any lurking before you started posting here?
-
mr-pharisee, did you by any chance do any lurking before you started posting here?
Yep. Clearly not enough.
-
Okay I fucked up and started talking about this band again. Lets go back to what we were talking about.
Which is being done talking about this band.
We are done talking about this band. As a group, I think we can get past this, and never speak of it again.
We are done talking about this band.
-
What's he done that's so offensive?
Nothing offensive, but he seems to have not been around The Internets very much, seeing as how he is beating the "any band that sells records is good" horse as though it were freshly exhumed.
Yo, Pharisee, check it: No bands are "bad" or "good", they are only "bad" or "good" to you. Barry Manilow and Kenny G sell a shit ton of records but I reserve the right to think they are utter and complete shit.
-
What? No. All Kieffer's done is say "THIS BAND SUCKS OMG" which is an argument any kid in sixth grade could come up with and then declared that we're done talking about this band. That's not any way to hold a discussion. In fact it's part of the problem.
-
You're right. This thread has served its purpose and can only repeat itself.
-
This band sucks because they play music designed solely to part wanna be rebels from their money.
This band sucks because they are taking music that has been done 1000 times before by better artists and mimicing it without adding anything of their own.
This band sucks because they perpetuate the hot topic culture of rebellion.
This band sucks, not because their music is unlistenable, but because you could spend hours listening to it inoffensively; hours of your life that you will never get back
This band sucks because nothing their lyrics use metaphor and similie in a manner similar to swatting a fly with a mac truck.
This band sucks because they contribute to the youth culture's dumbing down by promoting simple music and simpler lyrics that require no thought or comprehension.
This band sucks because they delibrately prey on the feelings of alienation and discontent in today's youth, exploiting emotional weaknesses and vulnerabilities for monetary gain.
This band sucks because they claim to be "emotional" but their music is so devoid of feeling that you'll feel emptier after listening to it than before.
That, Johnny, is why this band sucks. Or even, if you prefer, why I think this band sucks
Now. Can we please be done talking about this band?
-
Halleujah!
-
Wow, Johnny Katz just owned everyone. I think Johnny C owes him a "touche."
-
I can see you snickering in my mind's eye as you type that, because you surely know that he was arguing with Johnny C.
-
He should listen to this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQpN-guhQq4
that wasn't bad, but i didn't like the vocalist. if you took their music, and Patrick Stump's vocals and Pete's or whoever writes the songs for FOB, then that'd make for a great band.
i think i'm off topic...
They sell records. If they were bad, they wouldn't sell records.
rap takes little to no talent to make. but it still sells records.
-
Oh, man, do not open the "rap takes no talent" can of worms. This thread is snowballing into an avalanche of awfulness and bad feelings.
-

Hey, I like rap.
Now. Can we please be done talking about this band?
Yes.
