My desktop is the opposite of yours, McTaggart. Dark and horribly messy.

If there is one thing I cannot stand, it's space wasted on useless rounded bits.
Behold firefox: no space left unutilised

LFS isn't really LFS. It's RPM-based. Ewwy. Hate hate hate.
here's my boring ol' work desktop (click for a larger image)
spartan!
ps: i'm digging the EVE screenshots
Screenshots, whee! In-game, desktop, you name it. Remember to keep the size down (600x600), and just link to a bigger one.
Here's one of my favourites that I've taken:

Anson, what was the desktop background? it look quite familiar.
A desktop I made based off my webcomic, for a dual-monitor setup (two monitors at 1280x1024 for total resolution of 2560x1024):
Clicky (http://www3.telus.net/public/sideways/Artwork/1st%20Draft%20-%202560x1024.jpg)
Or this one?
Something tells me that image did indeed come from jephdraw, eddie.
That looks like Homeworld 2.
I can partially answer that. He's using Windows XP, but either Litestep or Blackbox as a shell.
Do you have enough stuff on your desktop? I think you might have some empty space on it.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b202/scytale1/Desktop.pngLink to the desktop image?
My new foobar config / desktop picture, for your enjoyment:Nice fooby.

I'm not quite sure how those are screenshots...?

Ouch! I guess I should have linked.
I got bored and customized windows xp.Sigh. I don't understand why ppl want their xp to look like OSX. I mean you don't get the extra features that OSX has anyway.

Also, that's very poorly done.

my current background. A tiger I took a picture of when I went to Germany. This fella currently lives in Berlin Zoo.
That is totally my avatar already.
Also, that's very poorly done.
Vista looks pretty. Vista does not behave pretty. :(
Princy, is that Vista? 'Cause it looks preeeeeety. If it's an XP mod, what is it and how do I get it?
I have a feeling I'm going to backup all my important stuff onto a DVD and reformat soon. My computer is being all wonky.
Isn't that just the result of cmd + tab? Looks like it to me, and that's a pretty basic, but really really useful function.Yessir, Cmd+Tab it is. Screenshot was taken using grab on a 10 second timer.
I have no idea how I'd take a screenshot while cmd+tabbing, though. Cmd + shift + 3 didn't to the trick.
Screenshot was taken using grab on a 10 second timer.Ah, of course. I haven't really been using Grab a lot so far, Cmd + Shift + 3/4 does the trick for most stuff.
[dude pukin' hearts or something]
Scrambled Egg Machine, what theme are you running?
One of many, many, many, many, many Vista clones. They all pretty much do the same thing.
Recycle bin is only there because I can't get rid of it.
Here's my desktop:I did the opposite. Now when vista was released i bought my laptop as fast as I could so I wouldn't get vista =)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v65/Phantasmagorically/sshot.jpg?t=1172349676
My Vista is real, however. I put off buying a laptop until it was released so I wouldn't have to upgrade. I looove my Vista.
Or you can use tweakxp which is a VERY useful program (can do other things like remove the little ugly arrows on shortcuts for example).Recycle bin is only there because I can't get rid of it.
But you CAN get rid of it (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/expert/honeycutt_02september16.mspx).
No, it isn't vista. It is an XP mod - as Cosmic said - Luna Elements 5 which I downloaded over on deviantART - http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/29511577/ It does come in black, which is what I run.
Here is a link to the background, I cannot remember where I found it, so here is my copy uploaded for you - http://img226.imageshack.us/img226/1658/lovejaw3.jpg
I'd post a pic of my new background, but...er, there's nudity. If you really wanna see the pic, just look up Dante and Virgil in Hell in an image search.
I know this is old, but thank you Princy! I just got this and it looks great!
Haha. You're virtually running the same games I had on my dock earlier.Wow, four out of, like 15 ;)
Frozen Throne, Diablo 2, ZSNES and VisualBoyAdvance. =D

And actually I don't play that many of them =P
And talking about docks... I wonder if that menu counts as a dock... what is the definition of a dock btw?
(The "dock"s on the bottom and on the side is part of the shell and no external program...)
How are you enjoying Gentoo? I used that for a while last year, became a bit of a pain to manage though, hardware support in it was excellent though.

It's more work to maintain than other distros, but I have more control over exactly how it's set up. I wouldn't reccomend it for someone who hasn't used linux for a decent chunk of time already (not saying you haven't).
I've changed my Desktop
i'm rather proud of making my own background ^.^ also, digital post-it notes are way better than real ones- cheaper, more earth-friendly, don't loose stickum..

Mark7 What version of KDE is that?
Lazer,
What OS is that? Vista with a really weird skin?
P.S. scale your images so they fit on the page plz.
Using a photo I took of my cat chillin' on the back of my chair. He does this all the time, usually while I'm sitting in it.
He looks more annoyed than he usually does, I don't think he was diggin' the flash. :-)

I don't usually have the dock visible, but I did for the screenshot.

Clicky-pops.
Wallpaper is from interfacelift (http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/details.php?id=1466).
What does the Windows logo do?
Why can't I do this?
Ah, that's a limitation of using imageshack/photobucket to do the resizing. I used ImageMagick to resize the picture.

Not so much 'neglected' as 'didn't see the point of'.
I'm sorry, but someone neglected to include a fucking GUI with imagemagickI'm sorry, but LOL, man imagemagick is awesome, as is imagemagick --help or going to teh website and reading up, it's not hard. And it's a hell of a lot faster than having a GUI. I think the problem is ubuntu, or whichever distro you use. Most distro's in this thread are too GUI intensive, teaching you nothing about the workings of your computer and how things fit together. As it is,t here is too much ubuntu abuse going on, and PLEASE make xfce look nice, it can do so much better.
<snip>
Which begs the question of how, exactly, one uses it.
Running Aston Shell 1.9.5, base theme from an Angelina Jolie created for the Aston Shell. Back round replaced.Yeah, I saw the buttons at the top and thought of the Jolie theme, I used to run it here before I fixed this box up a bit

This is my screenshot, and it`s pretty, but I don`t really see my background all that often :P
Not really screenshot related, but I kinda miss the Adium bug that left the contact list on the desktop during F11 if the "Under all programs" or something was chosen.. Not that I used Exposé now, but yeah.
time for my screenie...

That's the problem, I found it while browsing 4chan one time. No idea where it's from. I've tried uploading it to photobucket, and it did the whole "LAWL I WILL SHRINK YOUR IMAGE RATHER THAN HOSTING IT PROPERLY LAWL" thing.
I'll let you know if I find an alternate solution.
I now have randomly changing wallpaper :-)
Which is nice.
Love the background, where'd ya get it?
I am using Linux now. Clicky for bigger!

This is my niece.
It's technically a gaming related screenshot, right?
I tried Litestep a while back but it was not a very good implementation at the time. Now that it is a bit more mature I might give it another go. Thanks for reminding me about it, Silverfire.
Melodic:
Is your avatar related to Kraftwerk?
Man, I have compiz now and my desktops are so much tastier!

Its a lovely picture of my girl :)
(Unfortunately I see here more this way than face to face :(
I'm so proud of all the Linux!

Uh, it's just what that desktop looks like but now it has shadows, fancy window open/close animations, 3D desktops, etc. Just usual compiz stuff.

If anyone knows of any decent wallpaper sites, would you let me know? I'm sick of doing Google image searches
Yeah to be honest that is one of the things I am kind of jonesing for. At some point I'm gonna have to grab the RC and put it onto my laptop.
http://img51.imageshack.us/i/desktopkte.jpg/ (http://img51.imageshack.us/i/desktopkte.jpg/)Could you post a source image for this desktop? One without the task bar on the bottom? One of my roommates would absolutely love it as a background. Thanks
Desktop is pretty large so this is a thumbnail. (Protip: click the thumbnail)
Got my 23-year-old Mac SE online. (4 MB RAM, 8 mhz CPU, 800k floppy, 20 MB HD, 1 gig external HD)dammit. makes me want to get my dreamcast and commodore 64's browsing the net now.
Yes it's a photo, but I don't feel like converting its PICT screenshots to JPEGs. It took enough tinkering to get this far.

It's connected through LocalTalk to a Cayman GatorBox (basically a router that links LocalTalk and Ethernet), which then just goes to the DSL router like any other PC. It works, but the shared bandwidth for the entire LocalTalk chain maxes out at 28.8k/sec so... you ... have... to... be... patient.

Mr. Doctor please post the highres of that, that's amazing.
I've finally grabbed a program to let me slideshow my background, which makes me super happy.But... Win7 can do that natively. :?
I guess this thread is as good a place as any to post about this, and I really want to share:
I've probably mentioned F.lux (http://stereopsis.com/flux/) before; the program that shifts your monitor's color balance to a sepia tone when the sun goes down, making it easier on the eyes. But it doesn't do anything for the actual brightness [snip]
Wait, I thought F.lux dimmed the brightness? That seemed to be its selling point from what people have told me.No, it doesn't. See the FAQ.
Plenty of things already change the brightness of my screen. Why is this different?
f.lux changes the color temperature of your display. Natural light is more blue, while most artificial light (including candlelight) is warmer. Incandescent bulbs, which we're all used to, become more red in tone when you dim them. But newer LEDs and CFLs don't - this includes the backlight on your monitor. If you're a photographer, you've probably dealt with this, since pictures taken inside at night are always much more brown than photos outside.

IrrationalPie: Your taskbar is so pretty. How do?
But of course it could be hugely smaller as a jpg (it came up at 1/6th the size with my default quality setting); png is not appropriate for it.Yip, JPG would have been fine, even with a small quality setting because hay, it's a desktop.
Who is she? She's rocking the pixie cut

Do you have a link to a download of the background full size?I'll continue what K1dmor did and post the website where I got it from. They have some really nice anime wallpapers. They don't have many but all of them are in great quality.
No there isn't Matthew.huh. Not sure what I was thinking of then.
All things considered, the picture at any rate. I don't have a solitary desktop symbol aside from the reuse receptacle, however, so the picture itself is adequate.Welcome to the forum, Charles. Your posts look very cryptic. Is English not your first language?
