That's right, QC, I want you to write a song in one day. That means you have 24 hours from the time you start to the time you MUST finish. Then post the song on here, regardless of whether or not you got to lay down your 30th guitar track to complete your guitarmada.
I just want to foster some more creativity. The "This May, One Album, One Day" thing was awesome (although I'm sad I never managed to participate in that), but I don't want to see this end.
Please note: when posting your creations, remember to be considerate and not give us a .wav file or something that is just as big a pain in the ass. Not all of us have amazing internet connections, and some file types are a bitch to get working, depending on any number of factors. If you can convert your file types (Google it), convert the friggin' file types.

I'll try, though I'm on dial up and can't guarantee anything. :|
-
I'll see about it. I've done this before, and the results were alright, if not something I'd think anyone would want to listen to for very long.
-
I've written a terrible song now making fun of terrible songs.
-
Is it cheating if I make it a one-guitar Grindcore song?
-
I'll do this sometime this week, probably.
Also, the one album, one day thing is going to come back this May. I guess it's an annual thing now.
-
Is it OK if I make it nothing but feedback and basic Audacity effects?
Because I'm so going to.
This weekend maybe?

It is your song! That's pretty much all I have to say on the subject.
(that doesn't mean to say that everybody should just leave their guitars in front of cranked amps for like 10 minutes and call it a song)

Guitar?

Shit, there goes my plan!
-
I'm doin' it. Starting tomorrow maybe, when I don't have class anymore...
-
I really want to do this, but it's hard trying to divide my time between class, my girlfriend and my friends. Argh.
Maybe instead of being social all day Saturday I'll write and record the song.
-
I've finally dug out my microphone, so I'll be doing this tomorrow. I'm sick, so the vocals are going to be shitty.
Consider this post my starting point. 12:31am on March 19. Clock has started.
-
I like how I sing when I'm sick! Probably because it doesn't sound like me so much.
I'm going to hop on this soon and I'll probably end up very frustrated like every day of my life when I try to work on songs but hey sometimes I get lucky.
-
Update: voice got worse, so I'll have to start fresh tomorrow. I really liked that chord progression too. I've already popped some NyQuil so I can get epic rest tonight. I have failed.

Done and done.
A cover of Grouper's Disengaged, giant shoegaze style. Not completely my own then, but it sounds completely different from the original, and I added in a bunch of extra guitars. Went quite well too, only took me a few hours of noodling. Could use some more guitar layers, maybe. Production's horrible, but not hugely surprising:

Can we have instrumentals? I'm not a fan of my own voice.
-
Yeah okay
-

THAT WAS SERIOUSLY REALLY FUCKING COOL. PROPS.
-
I always post in these things and say I am all up for it and then it turns out I am not, but I will ignore that and set a tentative date for Saturday.
Actually, this post is just to remind me that this thread exists, in case I have 24 hours free.

Seconded, that was sick as hell.

Dang, I thought I'd be first. Second's not bad, though. Recorded starting around 10 tonight...so about 3 hours work, I guess. Classics End (Often Badly) (http://www.mediafire.com/?it2wm4nza5j). Instrumental, Chicago House-ish. Pacing and piano is a bit sloppy.
-
Done!

Also I agree that it is really pretty dang good, wow. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

So I totally tried to do this, but I have terrible recording equipment (that'd be a mic that is attached to headphones that I put near the amp) and combining that with a crappy amp pretty much has shown that it won't pick up anything lower than the high e on my guitar. I will have to postpone.
-
I'll probably start this in like 15 minutes. So by 7 PM tomorrow, hopefully I will have something like a song.
-
Man is there like a time limit? Cause I'm gonna be super busy with my recital comin up. I could maybe do it like a week from now

Dude, you can get a full recording set up from Radioshack for like, roughly a hundred bucks. It's not going to be the best, but it's functional, sounds decent and is totally DIY. That's what I do, and it sounds pretty dope.

The one-day thing is just there to spur creativity in a short amount of time. When your one day starts is up to you.
Early start today, so an early finish. I'll start making another stab at this hopefully tonight, and get the results posted by tomorrow afternoon.
-
Man I don't know, I didn't kick it off tonight, I could start right now but I have a big busy day tomorrow. Sunday maybe?

No excuse man. I did mine with a battery powered amp and a webcam mike.

Oh, usb keyboards are fun.
In fact, three times fun.

My mic did not pick up any of the sounds I was making. I have decided on a better way to do things, since I can't play guitar that well anyways. I'll start maybe wednesday, I have the day off.
-
I would totally do this if I had any musical proficiency or decent recording equipment :(
-
Hey so the forum decided I could go on today
I'll definitely try this when I get a microphone. :-)

Excellent job, sir!
Anywho, here's mine:

Enjoy.

The day I read this I sat down and worked out an Iron & Wine-ish sounding song. Well, I did it that night.
Does it count if I worked it out then and record it two weeks later?
-
So I did it, last night instead of my homework. Used my USB/MIDI Keyboard & Reason 4. Just for funsies.

wow, these have all been really good so far. i've enjoyed every single one (something i was not expecting).
i'm going to try to do this soon, if i can get my roomates to play some instruments with me.
-
Questions:
Digitally "composed" music allowed? (i.e. Reason 3.0?)
Non indie music allowed? (i.e. electronic, industrial stuff?)
So far I really enjoyed what I heard and my fingers itch to upload something I made today using roughly ... four to five hours. Only thing is, it doesn't quite fit into the apartment of funny, happy, guitar-y jamming I've enjoyed so far. ^^
(Yepp, and thats a chiasm)
-
Lay it on us, man.

Length: 2:21, Size: 3,1 MB
I advise you to stand ready with earpluggs or keeping your quickly-turn-the-volume-the-fudge-down-move at the ready. (I have no idea how loud this actually is, since I'm working with a fucked-up soundsystem... but it should be bearable, really, I am not deaf yet ^^)
edit:
Startet today (23rd) at around 2 to 3pm

This is really good!

So I wrote a complete song in one day, but I haven't recorded it yet. I am trying to decide whether or not I can post it when I do. Which is retarded, since I started the fuckin' thread, so I should know. It's not like I am going to do anything but the one guitar track and the vocals anyway, but Idunno. You guys decide if it should count or not.
-
I'd like to quote KickThatBathProf, as it made me laugh quite a bit.
*slowly puts the teacup down*
"Lay it on us, man."
-
Okay okay I'm starting.
-
PS if you're looking for some guidance try an Oblique Stratagem (http://tools.blackhat-seo.com/strategies/#)
-
okay, I really only got about 2 hours of work time into the song so I don't think it's very good, but here is what I managed to hammer out in that time. It's highly incomplete, but I followed Brian Eno's advice and made it "dirty" with a number of different sound destruction devices.

So I didn't do it specifically for this but my band wrote and recorded the song "So, Which One Of Us is the Dog?" in one day (hell, in a couple of hours). It's on our MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/lookimakemusic
But if any of you (quite wisely) hate MySpace or can't get that to work, I'll happily stick it on a download thing (if you, um, really want. It's kinda slapdash lo-fi post-rock-influenced talky indie rock I guess?)
-
Well I wrote a piece today, instrumental, not sure if that counts.
It's the first track on here, tastefully titled 'Fuck Penguins'.

This is by no means the most serious song I have ever made.

I dig it! It's like epic videogame music.
