I predict that this party will happen completely normally and there will be no drama.
If there is drama, it will be Dora/Tai related.
And I don't want that. :psyduck:

I don't think there'll be any drama with Fay and Angus - the forum is far more bothered about that incident than the characters involved in it ;-)

Jeph could mess with us completely by having it happen offstage.

Does Sven count as a friend of Marten's? Bringing him along would help implement the Principle of Maximum Awkwardness.

If Hanners gets a direct invite, I reckon she'd invite Sven on another "practice date" as I'm sure she would appreciate tips on navigating the social minefield that is a party.

Just had a thought:
If Emily invited people last week (real time) for a party possibly happening this week (real time) it would be probable that at least a week (if not two) has passed in QC-time over the weekend.
Because who invites someone on "thursday" for a party on "tuesday". So to speak. In my experience it would be minimum of a week prior.

I find that thought interesting. °O

The party's on "this" Saturday, so whatever day it was when Emily gave him the invitation, it was almost certainly less than a week prior.

Spare t-shirt and shorts probably would have been fine for Marigold, but that doesn't give you this little piece of humor.

And I see Willis has already posted HIS image of what Marigold's wearing on his tumblr.

On sharing swimsuits.  See college girls do it occasionally. I'd never borrow underwear or a swimsuit from a bloke though.  Too weird.

We're moving into full-on Azumanga Daioh / general anime series shout-out mode here.  A beach episode.

If anyone's gonna wear a full-length 1920's swimsuit, I'd imagine it'd be Hanners!

Not so sure on that.  If anyone, it'd be Emily wearing some funky swimsuit.  Though, there are two ways an Emily suit can go.  Crazy 1920's conservative, or anime shout-out skimpy.

We've seen Hanners in a form fitting dress before and short shorts and a tank top.  I think she'd wear a bikini or possibly a more swim competition style.

Now, given her neurosis, I don't think she'd enter lake water without a hazmat suit on.

You don't have to get in the pool at a pool party.

It must be currently a warm enough climate in QC time, or at least an indoor pool.

Well I'd imagine it's probably late summer and the intimation is that Emily's parents are loaded so the lake house is probably in the Berkshires. So I'd say warm enough for a pool party but the lake, if it's anything like the mountain lakes in the Southern Appalachians, stays cold year round and swimming is only for the brave.

It's perhaps a pity that in the QCverse the Bikini H-bomb test didn't completely destroy the island.

If it had, the popular swimsuit might be Nothing Atoll.

And since I'm already making insane predictions, Angus shall serenade Faye with a rousing rendition of "Baby Got Back".

Marigold & Momo - "Dancing Queen". Faye & Angus - "Honey Honey". Tai & Dora - "Gimme Gimme" (a girl after midnight). Marten & Dora - "Knowing Me, Knowing You". Hanners - "I Have A Dream". The Librinterns - "Summer Night City". Steve & Cosette - "Waterloo" (and the deck collapses pitching everyone into the lake).

Why am I now humming The Owl and the Pussycat in my head?
Because you are English? Or perhaps it is the way Marten and Angus are Learing. By their Male Gaze combined (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtUF1nEQ_2c), they can see through a wooden door!

Emily's party will be...

A small, quiet affair with only a dozen people in the lake house.    9 (7.1%)
A wide-open thing where half of New England is invited - and the other half crashes the party!    15 (11.8%)
Full of drama, because that's what QC's all about, right? ;)    20 (15.7%)

Won't be as popular as that house party Tai threw a while back, but close.    3 (2.4%)
Where we see Marigold dancing - for REAL - for the first time!    9 (7.1%)
The usual "wrong peson wakes up in the wrong bed" thing.    12 (9.4%)
And that "wrong person" will likely be Tai - waking up next to MARIGOLD!    2 (1.6%)
Interesting, after she finds Tai's clothes in her dishwasher.    8 (6.3%)
Bigger than Woodstock ever was.    4 (3.1%)
About the same as Doc Elicott-Chatham's birthday party - arguments about quarks and such.    3 (2.4%)
Meme laden!    10 (7.9%)
Next week. We never get to these things right away in QC-time.    32 (25.2%)

I'd prefer some old blues numbers:

Faye and Marigold - 300 Pounds of Heavenly Joy (alt. Built For Comfort)
Marten, Amir and Hanners - Playing With My Friends
Hanners - Everthings Gonna Be Alright
Tai and Dora - Who'll Do The Leaving?
Sven - Change My Way

(added a missing / - Method)

I suppose "No Outlet" (which sounds like blocked drains to me) is the American equivalent of "No Through Road"? And does Faye routinely carry a KA-BAR, or whatever that blade is? Does Emily carry a tanto?

In some states, the sign will say "no outlet" in others, it's "dead end."

Each state has its own little quirks and style to the way they administer traffic regulation.

Judging by her height I'd say she's a wakizashi person.

And am I to deduct by this car's passager-list that Dora and Tai are together in the other car? ... they will be taking the "scenic route" no doubt.

I, too, was wondering about that. Without Momo to guide them Tai/Dora could easily get lost. Unless they are giving Hannelore a ride. I would  trust Hanners to read the map rather than Tai.

I think the looks in the last panel are less "whoa, she's got a knife" and more "where the hell did that come from?"
After all, she's wearing a tank top and figure hugging jeans; there's not much hiding space there. Unless its internal; more support for my "she's part robot" hypothesis, no?

My wife will tell you the story of hitching a lift with her friend at university who for the whole journey had a scalpel hidden between her breasts for "security".  The knife is bigger than that, but then so is Faye bigger than the friend.

She could just as easily had some stashed away in Angus' car. But then, nothing would really surprise me about Faye.

I say "some" because a real prepared sportsman would never just carry one...

I know here in my state we use both, but the "no outlet" is usually reserved for residential areas with multiple roads in a neighborhood, but no access out of the "neighborhood" unless you get back on the road you came in on.  Dead End is usually one street that ends in a cul de sac or just ends.

And yes, I've done the same as Faye on "less then kosher" road trips.  I usually carry my Jayne Cobb bowie knife though.

I prefer my Russell Boat Knife, but that looks like a serious knife Faye's got there.

Although if she was truly prepared for that she'd have a shotgun in her bag with a deer barrel and a mix of slug and buckshot.  And a satellite phone to contact local law enforcement.

Emily's party will be...

A small, quiet affair with only a dozen people in the lake house.    9 (6%)
A wide-open thing where half of New England is invited - and the other half crashes the party!    17 (11.3%)
Full of drama, because that's what QC's all about, right? ;)    24 (16%)

Won't be as popular as that house party Tai threw a while back, but close.    4 (2.7%)
Where we see Marigold dancing - for REAL - for the first time!    12 (8%)
The usual "wrong peson wakes up in the wrong bed" thing.    13 (8.7%)
And that "wrong person" will likely be Tai - waking up next to MARIGOLD!    6 (4%)
Interesting, after she finds Tai's clothes in her dishwasher.    10 (6.7%)
Bigger than Woodstock ever was.    4 (2.7%)
About the same as Doc Elicott-Chatham's birthday party - arguments about quarks and such.    4 (2.7%)
Meme laden!    10 (6.7%)
Next week. We never get to these things right away in QC-time.    37 (24.7%)

Total Members Voted: 63

Just a few random thoughts after reading the comic, and then all the posts...

1. Emily is setting a snare for Martin. Think about the beautiful children they could make, and the potential is there for discount fruit smoothies.

2. Faye is far to violent and aggresive to have been special forces in a past life. I am thinking Inquisition torture mistress.

3. Hanners in a swim suit? I think more likely Hanners in a space suit! With full detox support software in case of a tear and/or puncture.

4. The afor mentioned knives are fine examples of personal defense items, but if I am going into the woods on a dead end road, Mr. Glock is coming with :)

5. Tai and Dora in a car with Hanners. Hm, Hanners could drive while.... wait, never mind. I did not just almost put that in writing

6. Mortal Kombat! QC style. My money is on Faye

7. Pintsize needs to make an appearance, I think. Maybe him and his mates hooked up feeding the party over the internet and chanting TOGA! TOGA! TOGA!

8. As they all settle around a campfire for smores and chocolates, a strange mist rolls in off the lake. A short, thin figure appears among them wearing dirty green cover-alls, holding a butchers knife and wearing a white hockey mask. As the group screams and gathers together for protection, the figure rips off the mask to reveal Sara! The stains on her clothing are dried remnents of allosaurus. She demands overtime, and Marten lovins to make things right for her dismissal from CoD.

9. The author of this post reply clearly needs to cut back on caffiene.

Reminds me of one of my favorite stories about my dad... one time we were visiting my uncle in New Jersey (he lives near Trenton), and during the visit we went into Philadelphia. We got lost at one point and ended up in a bad neighborhood. My uncle was panicking ("Get us out of here!"), and my dad calmly reached into the storage compartment between the two front seats, pulled out a pistol, and said "We'll be fine." My uncle started panicking for a different reason: "You brought a gun into New Jersey!?"

There are still pretty modest swimsuits that have about the same coverage as the tank top and shorts Hanners wears when she's being comfortable. I think she would draw the line at swimming in something that's not heavily chlorinated.

If Angus is making good money, then he's working for people who have money, which might result in some interesting ethical compromises. Maybe the Fiesta was a graduation present?

For comic #2292... (https://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2292)

1. Gibbs' Rule #9: Never go anywhere without a knife.

2. The Zero Tolerance 301 folding-knife would be my preferred knife of choice, were I able to bring myself to spend 300 USD on it.  (I have to make do with a generic manual folding knife, which probably would not save me from a rabid tapir out for my fluids :-( )

3. Well we know that Dora has her own car, so that is probably how she and Tai will travel.  The question now is whether Hanners will be at the party too?  I do not recall Hanners having a car (though obviously she could afford one as well as private parking space).

4. It will be amusing to see if Jeph does a strip with Dora, Tai, & Hanners in their own respective car.  Or any others en-route to Emily's lake house party (or man-hunting event).

5. It will be interesting to see the cast in their respective swimsuits, both males and females.

6. Someone (jmurf67) copying my posting style?  Good thing I do not enforce any of the patents 8-) .

I'm pretty sure Hanners will wear a bathing suit in a attempt to work up the courage to go in the lake, but ultimately she's probably going to chicken out.

Side Note: Since Faye's hands aren't visible in the second panel and she is tilted slightly to her right, she could very well be pulling the knife out of a compartment in the door. Most cars have them and it would be big enough to hold the knife.

Shouldn't Momo be strapped into a booster seat?  :police:

Honestly, besides cometic damage nothing bad could really happen to her.

And then Hanners surprises everyone by jumping into the lake in a bikini, before she realizes that no, it isn't just an outdoorsy-decorated pool, and no, it isn't chlorinated.

The party starts off with tears and several containers of chlorine.

Meanwhile, Pintsize emails horse porn to Emily as revenge for Marten not inviting him. Emily doesn't realize what it is and shows Hanners.

Poor Hanners.

(Also, I bet Pintsize is getting lonely. Marten hasn't hung out with him or anything in quite a while, and now he's going on another trip without him? Poor little guy.)

And then all my suspicions are debunked in one fell swoop, right? But if that's another suspicion... Ergh, I'm wandering into paradox territory.

8. "Gibbs' Rule #9" in yellow or red would have probably been too eye-searing for some of our forum-cast.  Plus I generally use yellow for linking.  (example: Gibbs' knife: the ZT 301 (http://gotknife.com/zero_tolerance-Ranger-ZT301.aspx) [P.S. Edit Add: huh, it auto-colors it orange by default now?  that is must be (relatively) new]

9. @jmurf67...  I do not know about you or others, but I generally use number-separation posting since it makes it easier to quote from.   And these particular forums love their quote-tunnels :psyduck: .

Two words, and they're in the poll: STEPHEN KING.

King lives in New England, and sets most of his horror stories IN New England.

Note for those outside of the US: "New England" is generally considered to be the section of the northeastern part of the country, generally made up of the states of Massachusetts (the setting of most of QC), New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine. The term comes from the fact that the area was one of the first English colonies in the "New World" back in the 17th century.

On the new Fiestas - they're actually pretty dang roomy on the inside, and I don't see why there'd be any trouble fitting 5 people in one, especially with Marten's scrawniness and how petite Momo is. I drove one for the better part of the summer for my job, and they're quite nice, actually. As for price, they're really not all that expensive, either - $14k MSRP.

Hahaha, god damn it, I waited too long to hit post and iDug beat me to it.

For comic #2292...

1. Gibbs' Rule #9: Never go anywhere without a knife.

Ahhh, Jethro Gibbs, the exception to the rule 'Never bring a Knife to a Gunfight.'

Hmmmmmmm

Why is it I suddenly hear Jason Vorhees' theme??

Do you have some sort of alternate forum skin that only mods can use?  :?

There are three forum skins at present (the default, a reproduction of the old plain gray, and a "normal" light background one), and anyone can choose any of them by going to the Look and Layout page of their profile.  All are in use by some forumites.  This is one reason that the rules and guidelines request that colour is not added unnecessarily to posts - the other is the avoidance of eye-bleach in general (I could block it, but don't want to be quite that much of a killjoy).

5- Write English.  There are many non-native English users here, so we don't expect grammatical perfection and consistency of spelling.  But please, no 1337-speak, ALL CAPS, or excessive use of smileys , marquees, fancy fonts and colours and such; and please try to spell people's (and characters') names right - it's only polite.

Angus's Male Gaze may have been foreshadowing...

:.(

I hate men. They have no loyalty.
Ummm... yes we do.  We absolutely do.  Do some men's eyes, on occasion, follow the swaying backside of a passing women?  Yes, they do - but despite what some people think, a sideways glance is not at all connected to a lack of loyalty.  If a woman drools at a shirtless hunk on True Blood, does that mean she is planning to cheat on her boyfriend?  No, it doesn't.  We're humans, we have libidos, and they don't shut completely down when we enter a relationship.  A sideways glance every now and again is nothing to sneeze at.

Now, Angus' complete lack of consideration in looking /staring at another woman when Faye is right next to him - well, he's just an idiot.  Doesn't mean he's not loyal.

A sideways glance every now and again is nothing to sneeze at.

Totally unrelated to the main topic at hand: if something is "not to be sneezed at it" is important. A sneeze used to be an expression of contempt or disregard, and to sneeze at something was to consider it of little value or import.

Of course, it's usually after a post like this that the poster is shot down by their own linguistic failures.

EDIT: Thinking about it, slang and idioms do have different meanings in different places, even in the same language. Perhaps I got the wrong end of the stick.

I check women out as they walk past too - that doesn't mean I wouldn't be loyal to a partner (it also doesn't mean I'm attracted to them).

That road does look dubious to me, but having driven down similarly-dubious roads to reach Redball's lake house I would simply assume that that's how American roads are!

I don't know what's funnier; Emily's terrified look (insofar as you can tell behind the hockey mask), or that Angus and Faye were expecting that.

To me, the deck looks to be built out over the lake itself (looks to be a bit of a height (probably 30-50 feet? My depth perception sucks sometimes)).

That's easy - she's going to split some kindling (you use the full size axe for the bigger pieces, but want the handiness of a hachet for kindling), and in the interests of safety has put on a mask.

The other explanation is that its funny.

I on the other hand would like to know where Marigold has gotten off to.

Emily, what the fuck. Your place is way too upscale for Crystal Lake. You need to be channeling "American Psycho" instead. They're supposed to be walking in to find the place covered in plastic wrap and "It's Hip To Be Square" blasting.

Oh well, at least we know why there's the thousand-person limit (waaaaayyy too much blood, even given the Deep One progenitor that probably dwells in the lake).

You can use the back of an axe head as a hammer; my mother used to jump out of her car when it stalled at the lights and hit the corroded battery terminals with the back of an axe like that so that she could start it again - it alarmed the drivers around to see her apparently swinging an axe at the engine!

See, I wouldn't react overmuch to someone swinging an axe at an engine. I figure its their car, if they want to hack it to bits that's their problem. Bit rude to do it at the lights with a queue behind you, but then some people just are.

If they swung an axe at the engine, looked startled, and started running away, on the other hand.…

Faye never put the knife down! Unlike SOME people, she's prepared.

Also, Emily needs the axe for the murders, duh. Why isn't Marigold on panel? Emily already killed her. Marten is about to run outside to discover her body to a terrible crescendo in the soundtrack!

(No he isn't, this is stupid, Emily is joking.

Folks from Rhode Island and Connecticut might disagree with your list.

Yeah, thing is? Most of Connecticut is beholden to the state of New York, and Rhode Island - well, like MDSB said, they know what THEY did.

The comic will end with an epic duel between Emily and Hannelore for the right to kill and butcher Marten and company.

Hannelore will favour a neat and ordered approach in contrast with Emily's hack'n'slash method. The duel is as much to settle on how they should be murdered as it is about who does the murdering.

Raven then randomly interrupts their duel after having flown in on her submacopter wielding a zweihander shouting THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!

Then stuff starts getting really interesting.

In terms of being able to recognise, name, and perhaps remember, the number is around 150 or so people, it's called Dunbar's Number (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunbar%27s_number) and you can read more about it on the link.

A good friend of mine passed away several years ago - the symptoms were misread, and by the time they found the lymphoma, he only had two days left.  He was 46.

His memorial service was held in a local theatre a week later.  It seats 950, and it was SRO.  He was active not only in the community theatre, and in the human services community where he worked, but in every neighborhood he lived in, and kept in touch with everyone.  Even when he didn't keep in touch, he'd get hold of you one in a great while and catch up.

There are not enough people like that in the world.

Oh no, it's real.  RI was founded on the basis of separation from existing groups.  It was originally a haven for those that had offended someone enough that they needed to leave wherever they used to live.  They even "seceded" from Britain two months before independence was declared!

And, if you meet someone currently from RI, you'll find that not much has changed over the last 250 years.   :-P

Nah, I don't think it's anything that obvious. I bet she's been inspired by Faye's banana smoothie recipe, and has devised an unconventional use for the axe.  Maybe banana splits: use the axe to (messily) split the banana, and to chop up some fresh pineapple and nuts for toppings. Or hotdogs: flatten the weiners with the side of the axe before tossing them on the BBQ.

Jeph is finding that his nicotine withdrawal is making it hard to work, so there may be (https://twitter.com/jephjacques/status/256299533846339584) is a filler (https://twitter.com/jephjacques/status/256305788950310912) today (OTOH, at least once when he's done that before he's found that it motivated him to carry on to produce a real comic after all - we shall see).

It can only be good that he gives up smoking though, so I send him my best wishes and encouragement for keeping that up.

To give up smoking sucks! He's got to find something else to keep him occupied, preferably some kind of mindless work like... digging holes or punching stuff. Helped me. Good luck to him.

There's your problem; assuming the explanation has to make sense. There's no actual reason it has to; even basic physics is a bit fluid in QCland.

It's not exactly an appeal really, or at least the smoke itself isn't at first, but once you've got past the choking and coughing stage as your lungs and throat vainly try to warn you that this shit is terrible the addiction is already starting to set in…

xD No, he's got a sword over his far shoulder. The brown thing sticking out the right side of his head is the hilt, and the blade is on the other side.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, he'd prolly be slicing his shoulder in half irl. But that pic was less about realism and more about screwing with colors x3

On the appeal of smoking: the early smokes have a pleasant ephorizing effect, that fades rather quickly as tolerance builds up. The problem is the addiction builds up even quicker, so by the time the pleasure has, if not totally disappeared, become insignificant, you're already addicted.

I really should try again to quit smoking, but I have too much on my mind these days. Last time, I lasted four months before I started smoking again because I was overwhelmed by the stress and frustrations of job hunting.

Anyway, courage, Jeph, and if I can make a suggestion that did help me handle the withdrawal: drink a lot of water. When I had a bout of withdrawal, I guzzled a pint of water, and it somewhat relieved me. Plus, in the long run, I think it helps cleaning your body of the remaining toxins.

IDK if Jeph will ever read this, but I read (first in a webcomic (http://www.gpf-comics.com/archive/2000/09/07) - which you should all read - though I have heard of it elsewhere) that keeping a load of cigarettes in a jar of water will help. Every time you feel like giving in, take the lid off and sniff it.

As someone who has attempted to quit smoking a couple time, you have my sympathies, Jeph. Best of luck.

As for the appeal... I dunno, I still like it most times and I've been smoking for over 10 years (since my early teens).  I started smoking as a stress and depression reliever, I suffered crippling depression and PTSD as a teen (and on into my 20s) and smoking helped alleviate it to a degree. It is possible it was just psychosomatic and just worked by giving me something else to focus on. The amount I smoke always fluctuates with how bad my depression gets. Right now I am doing relatively well and barely smoke at all. During the height (or depth) of my illness I was up to two packs a day. Years of therapy later and I barely smoke a pack a week.

The addiction aspect is a huge factor, though, to which I can attest due to the couple of time I actually tried to consciously stop. I never got to the point of not liking it, the times I tried to quit was because I know it isn't good for me, no matter how much I like it.  I do know people who have gotten to the point that they hate it, but they keep doing it because of the addiction.

Never understood the appeal either, even as a stress reliever.  But I guess some stress relievers don't work for others.

Weightlifting and music works for me.  And considering how much people likely blow on smokes in a given week, you could probably easily get a gym membership or get your own weights.  Paying to give yourself possible lung cancer down the line....never understood the desire to even risk that.

That said, amazing tabaco is legal and weed isn't.  Not that I smoke weed, but literally every polisci major I knew in college did.  I'd rather people were able to smoke weed that is far safer than kill themselves with tabaco.

That said, hope Jeph beats it.  Smoking is a nasty business.  Have family friends who have done it in the past.

IIRC, nicotine bonds to nerve receptors in the brain (most noticeably in the hippocampus, the emotion and pleasure-center).  As a result, when the nicotine starts leaving, you feel like crap until those nerves balance back out.  The process takes about fifteen days.

If you can make it that far, you've beat the physical addiction.  After that, it's just the habit that needs to be broken...

And that's even harder, for some!

I do music, too. And yoga and meditation. I don't limit myself to one form of stress relief. I have vastly expanded my coping mechanism toolbox as I have gotten older. Music, dancing, sex, skateboarding, and surfing when I get the rare chance. I am pretty versatile. I like to keep my options open.  I started smoking when I was young and thoroughly messed up psychologically and emotionally with very little in the way of a support structure. I definitely would not start now and I would not recommend it to anyone thinking of starting.

I have a daily yoga and meditation routine that has helped significantly. I recommend those way more. The benefits are far less dubious and there are no negatives.

Well, it obviously depends on each person. I never got the appeal because it just never worked for me as a stress reliever... I find myself smoking at parties though and for some reason I like it a lot.
I just can't let myself buy stuff like that... I enjoy buying cds and other music related stuff way more than any other thing so when I think that I can get a cd instead of 2-3 cigarette boxes... The wish to try it out more than I do at the moment disappears right away.

They look a bit more like N64 cartridges to me, due to the label taking up most of the cartridge. Also, I can definitely make out a triforce, but I have no idea what the rest are.

Nah, they're American SNES cartridges alright. N64 had a rounded top.

Who the hell keeps their cartridges in a plastic tub?  You leave them stacked on a shelf to gather dust so you can complain when they don't work and you have to blow the dust out of them.  It's tradition!

Ya, but the SNES cartridges have a tiny little label, the N64 ones cover up a decent section of the actual cartridge.

There appears to be a copy of Super Metroid in the pile. Doesn't look quite like the real cover, but it definitely looks like Samus in her power suit.

Were there more designs to SNES carts? I know the SNES got a redesign late in its product cycle (Sega Genesis got two), but wasn't aware of cart redesigns.
Yes, it was one of several things Nintendo did to enforce regional restrictions. Japan and Europe got rounded cartridges, North America got rectangular cartridges. See the SNES page on Wikipedia:

that's...interesting to know. Although I don't get why they removed the colors from the american version and replaced them with shades of gray and purple.

I hate regional lockout stuff unless there is an extremely good reason. If there is content in the game that is illegal in country X, then fine, lock out that section. Otherwise, let me play my game. Why does buying a game in Europe mean that I can't play it in Japan?

Faye and Marigold look exactly the same.

Apart from the different colour, length and style of their hair; completely different nose shape; Marigold's zits...

I misread that "z" as a "t" on first glance...

For comic #2295...

1. A bit late in saying, but wall-picture of young Emily is quite cute.

2. I expect the "lake party" story-arc to go on for a while, especially since Jeph is in the process of giving up smoking, though probably not as long as the "QC in space" arc.  So while I expect more guest & filler strips, I also completely understand if these things occur.

3. Oh gods...  Super NES, one of the major players of the early Console Wars.  So much nostalgia, and yet also featured hallmarks of video-game history.  My personal and memorable favorites...

- a. Chrono Trigger (#1).  Lauded as the best of the Chrono-series.  Chrono Trigger was notable for its non-linear storyline (time travel!) & various optional quests which affected the myriad possible ending(s).  Think Mass Effect #3 on 16-bit graphics, but with more than 3 endings and most of the endings very satisfying to the players (even the "evil" endings).  I spent months playing & replaying to see all the endings, and enjoyed them all.

- b. Final Fantasy #6 (JAP) / #3 (US).  Second only to the more widely acclaimed Final Fantasy #7 in the FF-series, Final Fantasy #6 was tale so epic in length and story-telling, that when the Apocalypse occurs and passes, that only marks the first-third of the game.  A evocative soundtrack despite using a simple MIDI.  A wide cast of playable characters, each with a story to tell & learn.

There was an opera scene that was both heart-touching & (later in-scene) hilarious; when the rakish but noble-souled thief jumped in to romance the beautiful clone-general away from the amorous & vengeful advances of the giant talking octopus.  [....what?  it's opera].  I played the Final Fantasy #6 to its maximum time & levels without regret.

Oh, and my personal topmost favorite characters amid the wide playable cast were the twin crown-prince brothers, one of whom sacrificed his own personal freedom & dreams for his twin's, by "cheating" his brother out of a king's crown (& its heavy responsibilites) that neither brother wanted to bear, via a coin toss with a double-sided coin.

- c. the Legend of Zelda (#3): A Link to the Past.  A hero's journey & struggle across two parallel worlds, begun with a special "soulmate" bond between the young nephew (Link) of an elderly swordsman, and a desperate princess (Zelda).  A bittersweet ending for the hero Link and princess Zelda, because despite having defeated the evil overlord (Ganon) and restoring both worlds and the lives lost, the soulmates are tragically separated by the gulf of parallel worlds in the end.

- d. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.  Taking most of the Super Mario Bros. cast into a "traditional" RPG setting, most players never understood the game was actually a tongue-in-cheek comedy-adventure rather than the "standard" RPG theme(s).  Super Mario RPG parodied & spoofed many other popular RPGs of its time, and poor Mario was the butt of many a joke and pseudo-abuse.  I had a lot of good laughs playing through.

- e. Super Metroid.  A strong female action-hero (Samus Aran) years before Lara Croft strut across PlayStation-1 video screens with her large pair of...guns.  I even felt a bit sad when she had to fight the baby metroid alien that imprinted on her (forcibly grown to giant monster size by the bad guys), which later sacrificed itself to protect Samus from the end-boss.

The space arc lasted 61 strips, but since this arc has a much larger cast (well, actually smaller, but Ol' Jephy-Boy didn't focus on the other scientists) so it will probably last a lot longer. My money is on 500 strips.

Also, Marigold's hair today is really similar to strip 2107 except it is pigtails and not a ponytail. Is this her "party time" hairstyle?

Well, to be fair, doing something fancy with your hair when you plan to go swimming seems a bit pointless.

True, but "putting it up" so it doesn't end a tangled mess isn't a bad idea.  Pigtails may be her preferred swimming hairstyle.  My own daughters tended towards braiding each other's hair in the car on the way to the lake / ocean / pool.

Pigtails may be her preferred swimming hairstyle.
Or maybe she figured out she looks good with pigtails. Okay, given her self-esteem, "kinda okay".
But she looks damn fine with pigtails. Step by step, she might be building her own personal attractiveness, without falling into beautiful all along (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BeautifulAllAlong) territory.

And I'm curious about how she'll look in a swimsuit.

There is a sliver of opening to the idea. She blushed when Angus said she was pretty and was delighted when people said so at The Horrible Revelation.

If Momo is cooking for her and taking her on walks she may begin to see a difference.

Yeah, that's what I was alluding to. What I mean is that there are more realistic ways for her to be more alluring.

Then again, to say the least, she doesn't try very hard. Most of the time she doesn't try at all. She looked nice in that white dress, although I personally find it too generic, not really conveying of who she is. One's outfit should be a statement, lest it just be superficial.

I think Momo did it is now a pretty reasonable explanation for anything weird that happens to Marigold/Marigold does.
