Final Four!
Link to full bracket here (http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=voy3d1&s=5).
A few things of note:
-- Not much!
-- Closest race was Low vs. Clash with a 28 - 19 vote.
-- Easiest win was Miles Davis vs. Radiohead with a 34 - 12 vote.
-- Pretty neat that we have a 15 seed still in it!
PAY ATTENTION NOW
Since we're down to one album per colour, here's how to vote this round:
-- Choose one: Bob Dylan vs. the Beatles
-- Choose one: Miles Davis vs. Low
-
Bob
Low
-
Bringing it all back Home
Kind of Blue
You seriously voted out London Calling. Ouch.
-
Bob Dylan - Bringing It All Back Home
Low - Things We Lost In The Fire
-
Abstain
Low- Things We Lost in The Fire
-
The Beatles - Abbey Road. Easy.
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue. Closer.
-
Bob Dylan
Low
-
Beatles

Bob Dylan
Low
Easiest choices of the game.
-
Dylan
Miles Davis

Bob Dylan
Miles Davis
-
The Beatles
Miles Davis
Both pretty easy choices. Also, I don't care much who wins it all out of these four. I like them all, I think they're all pretty interesting, but I don't really love any of them.

This. My heart really isn't in this anymore, I don't consider any of these to be anywhere near the best albums ever. My choices were knocked out in the first/second rounds.
-
the Beatles - Abbey Road
i don't care
Beatles vs. Bob Dylan is kinda tough, but I like Abbey Road better. The other matchup, I don't care for either album/who wins it. This was kind of a lame final four :|
-
Bob
Beatles
Although I gotta say, I only consider two of them to be 'best album ever' material.
-
I'm pretty sure you just voted for two album running against one another this round. It's Bob vs. Beatles and Miles vs. Low.
-
Abbey Road
Kind of Blue
-
I don't know why I didn't keep up with the rest of the rounds.
Bob Dylan
Miles Davis
-
Bob Dylan - Bringing It All Back Home
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue

Kind of Blue

Abbey Road
Things We Lost in the Fire

Beatles - Abbey Road (kinda close)
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue (easily)
-

You could be right there. I'm not paying enough attention.
Bob and Miles then.
-
Beatles
Miles
-
Dylan
Davis
-
Beatles
Low
In the end, all great albums, salut for that QC!
-
Bob Dylan
Miles Davis
-
Bob Dylan
Miles Davis
-
Abstain
Kind of Blue
Too bad Unknown Pleasures got kicked out! Now I hope Miles will be champion!
-
Bob Dylan
Miles Davis
That first choice was seriously hard. These aren't really my favourite albums ever, but I can see that a lot of people would consider them to be. Low's one just isn't of the same calibre.
-
The Beatles - Abbey Road
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
-
It's interesting to see how the semi-finals didn't really need a public or private vote, because while people are voting publicly there is no visible influence on the part of public opinion and discussion is kept to a minimum. I think this is excellent.
-
Bringing It All Back Home
This was sort-of difficult, but since I chose it (with great difficulty) over Sgt Pepper, which I prefer to Abbey Road, this is what I have to do to be consistent.
Kind Of Blue
This, on the other hand, was easy.
-
Dylan
Miles Davis
-
Bob Dylan - Bringing It All Back Home
Low - Things We Lost In The Fire
This.
-
Abbey Road
Things We Lost In The Fire
-
Beatles
Miles Davis
-
This, on the other hand, was easy.
Nooooo.
Yeeees.
-
Bob Dylan - Bringing It All Back Home
Low - Things We Lost In The Fire
-
Abbey Road
-abstain-
Though honestly, Unknown Pleasures was the last album in the bracket that I really love. Now that it's gone, I don't particularly care which one wins.
-
The Beatles - Abbey Road
Low - Things We Lost in the Fire
-
I'm voting for Low because I prefer that particular record match-up, not because I want Harry to go on a shooting spree.
Actually from hereon in I'm going to abstain from this competition not only because when push comes to shove I realise that anointing one single album the best ever is patently absurd, but also because we're getting dangerously close to further deifying Saint Kind of Blue, which is something I'm well and truly over seeing as how in my opinion (A) it's not the best album ever, (B) it's not even the best jazz album ever, and (C) it's not even the best Miles Davis album ever.
So, I mean, it's still a good album, but vote against it all you want.
(If anybody really wants me to explain exactly why I think it's not the best jazz album ever, etc., I'll be happy to provide tedious and extensive reasoning. Again.)
-
Eh, it's just a little fun, even if slightly serious fun.
-
It's no fun when none of your suggested albums even make it into the first round!
-
That's life.
-
To be fair, all of his nominations are fantastic albums, just not really in the vein of this forum.

And to be fair (to the forum) that was kind of the point I was making with my nominations.
As far as Kind of Blue goes, basically my problem with it comes down to inertia. The album's just too static for me. For me jazz has always been such a kinetic music, and then along comes Kind of Blue and it kind of just sits there and looks pretty. There's no real swing in the rhythm section (of course, the album does swing in the technical sense, but not in a very dynamic way, especially if you compare it to the albums Davis was recording with his quintet just a few years earlier), and the solos never feel to me like they're going anywhere. Basically it seems to me too much music for the head, not enough music for the heart.
To put it in a crueler way, I find the album rather boring.

The lack of swing seemed to be kind of the point, though. It's certainly a darker album and seems at times to be a bit sinister (or as sinister as jazz can be), and too much swing would probably ruin that sort of feel. It wasn't the best album, but I think it certainly had a sort of emotion to it that really came into conflict with what I expected from a jazz album.
-
Bob Dylan
Low
-

That doesn't mean I have to like it!
-
I didn't mean to say that! I was just shooting the shit!
-
This is basically the hardest round for me. By far. Low against Miles isn't too difficult, since my opinion of Kind Of Blue is fairly similar to Harry's. But man. Dylan vs. The Beatles, and probably my favourite album from each band. I'm going to have to listen to those records a couple more times before I can be sure.
-
Bob Dylan - Bringing It All Back Home
Low - Things We Lost In The Fire
-
That doesn't mean I have to like it!
That Low record ain't exactly kinetic either.
-
If Low ever started swinging I would become deeply worried.
-
Beatles
Davis.
-
Bob Dylan
Low
(I really hope Low wins so that we all don't look all boring and Rolling Stone)
-
Dylan
Low
Dylan against Beatles was so so so hard.
-
Dylan
Low

(I really hope Low wins so that we all don't look all boring and Rolling Stone)
(i am really tired of this viewpoint. rolling stone has good taste in classics, it's just the new records they don't keep up with too well. omg guys really)
-
Dylan is seriously going to win? Ick.
-
How on earth are these the final 4?
-
Ennui?
-
We're all dads.
-
But not cool dads.
-
What about Paul?
-
I'd have to examine his voting record in this contest. If there's one thing I've learned in the past few weeks, it's that this contest says everything about everyone.
-
I'm pretty sure mine says "I quit keeping track of what I've already voted for ages ago" and "Fuck consistency."
-
I'm pretty sure mine says NEW BLOOD PLZ!
-
Mine says that hey melody is maybe better than enthusiasm when it comes to a medium based on melody.
I like Dylan, but come on.
-
It's a contest to decide the smallest common denominator, something most here can agree is pretty good. Not the best album.
It would be interesting once we've decided the winner to see how many actually consider it their personal favorite album ever. Not many, I dare guess.
-
Abbey Road
Kind of Blue
BAM DONE THATS IT
-
You know, I got really busy and sort of forgot about this for a couple of rounds. Um...
Bob Dylan
Miles Davis
-
VOTING CLOSED
sorry dudes and ladies for my lack of punctuality. RL/work is busy right now.
