(I smile inwardly at the memory that my mother called my father by the nickname "horse", and he her "mare". It's not relevant, but it reminded me. Naturally, I was "foal minor".)
Happy New Year to all who are now celebrating it!
-
And a happy one to you too... "Year of the Horse" should make Broncos fans happy in Denver (Especially if they win on Sunday!).
-
right back at ya, Akima, and to the rest of you forum lot! <3
-
Well since Akima already started the thread!

Happy New Year everyone! Nice to see the year of the horse return for the third time in my life time.
-
Hmm... 5th time for me. And a happy and prosperous one to you all!

-
Happy New Year, everybody! :-D
-
Ohhey, it's my year!
Happy new year everbody!

Akima, or anyone else sufficiently versed in Chinese culture, where can I find a legitimate source of info on what year I was born in? My birthday is on Monday so different lists tell me different things because they've been simplified and ignore the fact that the calendars don't always match up.
-
WolframAlpha knows!
http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=chinese+zodiac+01th+January+1970
Just replace 01th January 1970 with the date required.
-
Loki's link works fine, and gives your "element" as well as your animal. :-) It isn't usually the day of the week that confuses people about the year in which they are born for the Chinese zodiac. People born in January or February can be confused because Chinese New Year is a "movable feast" falling in the Gregorian calendar on different dates each year between January 21 and February 20.
Pro tip: There are Five Elements (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wu_Xing) in Chinese astrology/alchemy/geomancy: Wood (木 mů), Fire (火 huǒ), Earth (土 tǔ), Metal (金 jīn), and Water (水 shuǐ). The word "element" is really a mistranslation, derived by analogy from the Ancient Greek (and thus Western) idea of four elements (Earth, Air, Fire, Water).
This is the year of the Wood Horse, so I suppose we should all beware Greeks bearing gifts...
-
...but large wooden badgers are fine....
-
Yes, that's what I meant - Monday (as in the one coming) is between those two dates, so sometimes it's before the New Year and sometimes it's after. Simplistic calendars that just say "February 1990-January 1991" or whatever overlook the slippage into which my birthdate fell.

I've known I'm a metal horse, but I'm not sure what that means exactly.

I am a cowboy

I am wanted
Dead or alive

That is terrible and THE BEST.

Happy new year! I am apparently an Earth Dragon, pretty cool.

Loki,
Also happy new year!
-
新年快乐!
Apparently I'm a fire tiger.
-
Apparently Jimmy is as old as me. Take that, thread derail!
-
Or significantly older! How many years older would that need to be?
-
all of them
-
Aka sixty, according to Wikipedia.
-
That is less than my guess. D;
-
I've known I'm a metal horse, but I'm not sure what that means exactly.
Exactly nothing, unless you want it to.
The Chinese Zodiac is about as reliable as the European one in that it gives very general traits that may or may not apply to literally anyone.
If it resonates with you and if it helps you in your life I suppose there's little harm in it, other than willfully believing false information which is silly.
-
Apparently I'm a fire tiger.
Me too! Thanks for sharing that link, Loki. Very interesting details.
Happy New Year everyone!

Well yes I knew that bit. It was more what aforementioned general traits assigned to said metal horses were.

My boyfriend is a fire dragon. No wonder he's so smokin' hot! Also a relationship between two dragons has got to be pretty sizzling.
(... That is probably not how this works at all but I am going to say it is anyway)
-
Akima's gonna come back to this half a page or so of derp and just be like:

Yeeeep I am fully aware. Sorry in advance, Akima.

My zodiac sign is a fluffy unicorn. I'm sure that exists, look it up.

I'm just a fire ram.

Hmmmm....I am a wood ox and husband is a water dog. Not sure how those interact! :-P
Happy New Year!

The cheese's hubby?
-
Hmm, my husband is also a fire tiger. One of us is a Capricorn and the other is a Taurus. I'll let you guess who has the more fiery personality... :-P
(I don't really believe in astrology, but it makes an interesting read.)
-
Yeah no, I am a Libra and a dragon which I believe should mean I'm pretty much the ultimate leader type, which is probably as wrong as it gets. Astrology can be pretty fun to joke about, but it doesn't go much deeper than that.

Water Tiger.

I always found it interesting that they're the only big cat that swims.

I wonder what they look like. They wouldn't be caught dead dog-paddling.

Fixed the image. Look up.

Still broken...

Rawr!

What people miss is that once their browser has shown them the image, they will continue to see it even if they set up a hotlink which is blocked (until their cache expires it, anyway). The way to check if your link is working is to open the forum in a different browser which doesn't have the image cached.

Welp, that wasn't exactly an auspicious start to the Year of the Horse - at least, not in Denver.
