I've just started a new comic on blogger, I'm kind of new at comicteering and I want some constructive criticism. The link is http://www.thatwittygeekcomic.blogspot.com (http://www.thatwittygeekcomic.blogspot.com) Please stop by and leave a NICE comment. I would REALLY love some tips and pointers on to how to make my comic better.

Plug Yr Comic thread! (http://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php/topic,13514.0.html)
Constructive criticism: I can't read it. It's too small.
-
It's not particularly witty..... it's too small too, i had great difficulty reading it.
-
my soul was just crushed

O_O
I dont know how Im supposed to react to that
-
Your text is too small. I assume it's probably not nearly as painful to try and pick out at a resolution like 800x600... but since I can't read it I can't really give you more constructive criticism than that, sorry.
-
Thank you, The program I've been using is Manga Debut, and the resolution stuff stuff is all fucked up, I'm still trying to find the sweet spot, but I'll try to plug in 800x600 on my next comic. Also, the program I use is specified for publishing on paper, and not internet use, so I have to find a way around that also. So please excuse my comic's gnome fashion. Though I think you can read some of the new comics
-
...just use photoshop. Or, heck, use paint.
-
I did, but my comics didnt look as nice as they did now. www.xanga.com/gnomeguy (http://www.xanga.com/gnomeguy) I think you need a xanga to look, but this is were alot of my comics were posted before I got manga debut.
-
Personally, I would rather my comic be readable than "look nice."
-
you do have a good point but,
I'm still trying to do every possibility to use this software. My brother spent 50 bucks to buy it for me and I dont want to hurt his feelings by not using it, Its just not part of my ninja code.
-
*raised eyebrow* okie dokie, dude.
-
Im serious
Besides it doesnt matter, I fixed it.
I had my resoloution or something at 720 dpi, and I turned it to 200 dpi. I did some test texts and when I saved them to jpeg, the writing was legible at 12 font (unlike the first couple of comics) so yeah, the comic after next comic SHOULD be readable
New comic :D

Better, get hold of Paint.Net for free.
-
Or GIMP? It's free too.
-
okay, which one is better?
I'm going to try this program one more time... I have an idea..
If I saved a jpeg to the size I want, then uploaded it to my software then start from there... would it work?
-
GIMP basically emulates photoshop as much as is legally possible. I'm afraid i cannot comment on this paint.net.
-
Paint.Net is very similar. I used to use GIMP but now I use Paint.Net. I can't remember what made me decide that it was better though.
-
:/
I tried out gimp and figured out quickly that I hated it.
It doesnt capture the feel of drawing on paper as well as Manga Debut does.. :/
Does anyone suggest a work around? I keep increasing the font on the comic and increasing the size of the comic but that doesnt seem to help at all.
-
Draw the comic on paper, then buy a scanner.
-
:-/
I'm not even going to argue that.
-
To be honest if you want it to feel like you are drawing on paper the best way really is to actually draw on paper. Draw the boxes on the PC, print them out then fill them in. I have a tablet and whathaveyou but it's still not the same as the good ol' biro.
-
I have a tablet too.
I like the correction tools that are featured on the tablet. And the strokes are what I want (I cant afford awesome untensils)
I dont mind that the program I'm using doesnt have color either, it forces me to think with what I'm drawing (Also, I want it to be as comparable as possible to persepolis....) And it turns out great.
I just need to get the picture bigger, like... visually bigger. So I can have more room for my comics. Because when I add more pixels, the picture seems the same size.
Holy shit my newest comic is microscopic....
you can get a free trial here, if anyone can figure my problem out, I'll put a link up to your site or something. I dont know, anything reasonable.

Do what (some of) the pros do: draw it out on paper. Scan it in. Trace it with whatever program you're using.
Magic.
-
lets try this...
I just maxed out the picture bigness on my program and made a quick sketch and some text.
Check out my site in like 3 minutes and see if its big enough.
EUREKA! I've done it! I tried that before and it didnt work as well... But it was probably because I continued using 12 font O_O.
-
ah-ha. It's readable, now.
-
-depressed that noone can read my old comics-
new comic and readable!
