I'm assuming some of you are on this thing, and furthermore, that there's some of you I'd like to follow! So I'm wondering what you guys's accounts are? If you guys follow anything totally awesome, like fakeapstylebook or shitmydadsays, etc.
I'm @huffdongson on there. Mostly tweet about pooping, climbing, and girls. Occasionally about music, etc.

Like, it makes more sense to kill babies than use twitter.

Yeah I tweet pretty occasionally. I usually use it as a way to communicate with people I know as opposed to text messaging.

I tweet sometimes, as @de_el. I don't tweet very much except @ a few friends of mine, and very occasionally stupid random musings. The most worthwhile twitters I follow of people I don't personally know are those of Wired, Ben Templesmith, William Gibson, Warren Ellis and Kate Beaton.

Twitter, to my mind, is the final mind-shart of a dying Mediocrity Deity. I find it to be reductive to the point of pointlessness. And where pointless information can be entertaining and witty on occasion, a tweet is more often than not bland, unappealing, and as invigorating as a poleaxe to the frontal lobe. I apologise if this offends those of you who tweet, really I do. It's not meant as a personal attack - I fear the technology itself is at fault. Perhaps it is my bitter loathing of reductive technologies - phones that do everything else except worse; texting (and no, I refuse to believe that Txt Spk is the "next step" of the English language - it's not a linguistic progression, it's just deficient) ...to name but two. The human brain spent years evolving a filter for all of that inane internal running commentary, and what do we do? We dice all of that higher mind in order to relay the thanklessly bland minutiae of existence? No ta, chaps, not for me.
tl;dr - Tweet? Get off my lawn! Rassin' frassin' youth of today.

The technology itself is not at fault. The limitations to a form of communication do indeed affect the content of the message, but such rules of engagement only invite the clever and creative to use them to their advantage. Furthermore, to say that brevity somehow would be synonymous with triviality is completely false. entire traditions of art and poetry speak to this (haiku in particular). This, or any system of communication at all, is only as trivial or pointless or useful or entertaining as the people using it. If you find that the tweets you read are childish, pointless, self-indulgent or poorly written, you are following the wrong people.
As for being reductive, The idea of reducing things down to the minimum, the essence, removing all baggage and obscuring elements sounds like a perfectly fine, even Zen thing to do.

One of the cool things about Twitter is that it can be useful for people learning languages. Say you aren't sure how a certain conjugation of a verb is used; just type the word in the search bar and bang! thousands of examples in context from real, often native speakers.

Apparently, I have mentioned coffee more than 5 times, never linked to anything, joined before Oprah, tweeted more than 1000 times and have tweeted more than 20 times in an hour.

It's just sort of a keyword (called a hashtag) to make it easier to search for certain things people are talking about. If a bunch of people are talking about the TCA press tour, it's much easier to find all of those tweets if they label them somehow with "#TCA" and then people interested in that can just search for "#TCA" and get all the news. Or "#chuck" for whatever is being written about Chuck. Or, well, whatever.

Oh yeah so I just installed a twitter toolbar in my Outlook at work so I can sort of do this now.

But it'll also list all the tweets that don't have the hash in-front of them. So if someone searches for TCA they're going to find #TCA as well as just TCA.
