As revealed by Fry himself (http://www.billywest.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2011&PN=1)
26 brand new half hour episodes :D
-
D:
It's been a while since I've said this but: w00t!
-
I'm hoping that it doesn't go all Family Guy and have all new writers and not be as funny anymore.
Also, it was pretty finished with the way they ended the series. It's not going to be any good if Fry and Leela are all lovey all the time.
-
Agreed with the last post. My default policy is "Cautious Optimism."
-
As much as I love Futurama, I agree with the last two.
-
Sorry to burst your bubble, but Got Futurama (http://www.gotfuturama.com/) has the latest updates.
No 26 television episodes. Most likely there will be some sort of straight-to-DVD stuff.
-
Uh...how did Futurama end? I never saw the last episode I guess.
PM me for no spoilers for others.

Meh, I wasn't too happy with the ending. The final episode was, in fact, one of the funniest and greatest Futurama episodes ever, but the absolute end of it was crap.

there was an item on slashdot saying this wasn't going to happen:
No New Series of Futurama

Television
Nikoth writes "It seems that Billy West got it wrong when he announced that there are 26 new episodes of Futurama on the way, and instead there will only be the 4 movies as planned. "

Sad. Very sad. Though, it saves us from seeing the show start to go downhill.

Hey, if the movies do well enough, the series may wind up getting another shot. It happened for Family Guy, and Futurama has a big enough following. Besides, the reruns are on Adult Swim, and they have that effect...
-
Lets not forget Furturama is far, far more funny than Family Guy.
-
The last episode the one where Fry destroys the brains and travels back in time?
wrong.
Fry does a deal with devil...
-
The last episode the one where Fry destroys the brains and travels back in time?
Fry deals with the Robot Devil, gets his hands, learns to kick ass at the holophoner, etc...
Some of the greatest Futurama quotes come from that episode:
Bender: You may need to metaphorically make a deal with the devil. By 'devil' I mean robot devil and by 'metaphorically' I mean get your coat.
Robot Devil: These hands are always touching me in places!
Fry: (chuckles) Yeah, they get around!
Robot Devil: You can't just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!
Bender: I don't recall ever fighting Godzilla, but that is SO what I would've done!
Calculon: I do owe you for giving me this unholy (overdramatically) ACTING TALENT!
Hedonism Bot: But I'm not done vomiting!
hehehe...

I sure do hope that they do something like this to bring some closure to the show, but I am always warry of any news about a cartoon show comming back. So many great shows have ended before their time and nothing ever comes of them. underGRADS, The Critic, Mission Hill, Roughnecks, Clerks. Hell even Spawn had it's moments.
The problem is you can never rely on what anyone says about a show comming back. Pete Williams, creator and animator of underGRADS, a very funny cartoon, has talked about being able to bring the show back for years and has nothing to show for it.
I just hope that they can back up their talk. I'd hate to be dissapointed again. Futurama was the smarter persons cartoon. They had jokes that were so intelligent.
Example - When the gang is at the horse race and the professor loses the race saying, "No fair! You changed the outcome by measureing it!" Which is funny because Heisenburg's uncetainty priciple dictates that what ever you measure, you change. Ahhhh, I love jokes that no one gets unless you watch the running comentary on the dvd.
-
My favorite intellectual joke was when Bender is sent to robot hell and the robot devil gives him a pamphlet that says "Hell is Other Robots." And you don't necessary have to watch the commentary on the DVD. You could just know what they're talking about.
Also, that's a gross oversimplification of the Heisenberg uncertainty principle. It's actually much crazier. That more references Schroedinger and his cat analogy, but I'll forgive them, because I thought the same thing until I started taking senior-level physics classes (yay for graduating...in a year).
-
I hope the new episodes are good.
Although I've never seen the final. I don't think we got that far with TV where I live, as it was on TV, then cancelled, then replayed again on a different channel.
-
thats cool, but i hope they still keep the episodes limited. It's better being shorter.
-
any new futurama is good futurama for me...
of all 'those kinds of shows' (simpsons, familyguy, southpark, kingofthehill, etc) i thought it was by far the most enjoyable
-
Obviously you folks aren't reading the whole thread (I'm guilty of this too sometimes.)
There won't be any new episodes, see my previous post.
-
i thought they were carrying on with the four straight to dvd feature length episodes that were talked about awhile ago...
am i wrong ?
-
soap, you're right. (Probably.) JJMitchell is referring to the two posts above his that were talking about episodes, not movies.
-
I must have misread some of the posts.
Its easy to get confused about which episodes you are talking about.

*wuvs this*

MEGABUMP
Interview with David X. Cohen (http://www.wizarduniverse.com/magazine/toyfare/002710592.cfm) about the upcoming new episodes of Futurama.
-
I am so looking forward to that full episode of Everybody Loves Hypnotoad.
-
I forgive you for resurrecting this, Matt.
Because it's TOTALLY AWESOME.
-
But it's not till 2008!!
I hope I can hold on.

Sorta Large Bump!
News about the first four episodes, which comprise the movie Bender's Big Score (http://www.aintitcool.com/?q=node/24076).
All I can say is: yes.
-
hooray, more news about it
I have not heard anything since last march about it
-
I will be watching and waiting.
-
It is going to be movies? i am confused here.
-
There were originally gonna be 3 or 4 movies, but when Comedy Central bought 13 new episodes from them they cut up one of them into I think 4 episodes. I don't know if they're gonna do the same thing with othe others.
-
There are going to be 16 episodes.
The first four episodes will comprise the movie Bender's Big Score, as I mentioned above.
The next four episodes (5 to 8) will comprise another movie. As will 9 to 12 and 13 to 16.
Get it?
-
Another M-m-m-m-mega bump!!
The titles of all four movies have been released:
- Bender's Big Score
- The Beast with a Billion Backs
- Bender's Game
- Into the Wild Green Yonder
Bender's Big Score is being released on Tuesday, December 4th, 2007 (my birthday!) No dates set for the other three.
There was a panel at ComiCon on Saturday:
3:30-4:30 Futurama - Matt Groening is proud to announce the long-awaited return of the animated sci-fi comedy classic Futurama! Matt and executive producer David X. Cohen will be on the dais, accompanied by writer Ken Keeler, animation directors Peter Avanzino and Dwayne Carey- Hill, and for the first time together on stage in any universe, actors Billy West (Fry), Katey Sagal (Leela), John DiMaggio (Bender), and Maurice LaMarche (Kif Kroker)! The cast and crew will entertain your questions and present a sneak peek at Bender’s Big Score! in glorious wide-screen format! Moderated by Bill Morrison. Ballroom 20
Did anyone who went to ComiCon check out the panel? There was a 5 minute trailer shown.
Check out Got Futurama (http://www.gotfuturama.com/) for the latest news and links to blogs about the panel.
Oh yeah, one more thing: WOOOOOOOOOO!!!
-
Wait, I thought Bender's Big Score was coming out November 27th. Did they delay it a bit?
-
Some sources are saying Nov. 27th, others Dec. 4th. I'm not sure which date is true.
-
We tried, Matt, but the line was fucking massive. Seriously, you should have seen this fucking line. We would have had to get there like, an hour earlier.
Also, are those the dates of the DVD release, or are they when the first episode airs on Comedy Central? Either way, I am fucking stoked.
-
DVD releases. Futurama doesn't move to Comedy Central until January 1.
Edit: Am I the only one who's hesitant about the idea of Futurama going to Comedy Central? Cartoon Network has been VERY good to Futurama and instrumental in bringing up interest in the series. Meanwhile, Comedy Central has a history of mishandling any animated property that doesn't have the words South or Park in the title. Remember their cartoon block? They moved it around constantly until nobody cared anymore and then dropped it. Remember Drawn Together? Same treatment. Hopefully Futurama will do fine off of its current level of recognition, but I am extremely wary of Comedy Central totally fucking this opportunity.
Considering the fact that Futurama would fit perfectly between Simpsons and Family Guy based off of its more situational Simpsons aspects and more fantastical sci-fi elements, I think they'd be much better suited going back to Fox, regardless of how bad the network fucked them before.
-
Fox probably isn't interested, to be blunt. Besides which, the threshold for acceptable ratings on a cable channel like Comedy Central is typically much lower than a main network like Fox. I think this is OK because Futurama fans will actively seek Comedy Central out for these episodes and they don't have to worry about attracting the other idiots that watch Fox. Let's be honest: no matter how great Futurama was, not that many people watched it, and it has a better chance of surviving longer on a cable network. And I think that Comedy Central probably knows better than trying to fuck with Matt Groening, who I'm sure has enough celebrity at this point to intimidate them. Plus, they probably learned from the whole Chappelle's Show fiasco. In short, the eternally suffering optimist in me really wants this to turn out right. The creator, voice cast, and most of the writing team is still there, and they don't have to worry nearly as much about ratings, so I really really think this can work.
-
Futurama has grown in popularity exponentially since its time on Fox, so I doubt ratings would be an issue. Seriously, it's almost as big as Family Guy at this point.
-
Comedy Central did some good to Scrubs. Showing it whenever and not as a late night thing. Scrubs basically kicked Mad TV off so maybe we can have a Futurama and Scrubs together without shitty Mad TV interrupting. /shrug
-
ComicConTrailer (http://youtube.com/watch?v=hEtZHOj4vHo&NR=1)
So, that all sounds very good to me.
-
Heh.
Awesome clip. Reminds me of the very first scene of Family Guy when it came back, with Peter listing off all of the shows Fox has unceremoniously canceled, most of which were actually good.
Which it, in retrospect, they shouldn't have brought back Family Guy. But, still.

Duck Man! Just a quick example of a syndication gone right on Comedy Central.
-
I hope you're referring to it as gone right by the fact it's long gone. That show was fucking awful.

Off topic but they are bringing back Farscape. I'm not sure if that was listed or if I'm confusing it with Firefly, which was definitely listed, but FUCK YEAH!

I can't count how many times I have been asked where I am going and resisting the urge to scream, "To the saucy puppet show!"
