The Phantom could have been terrific, but they picked Billy Zane of Bruce Campbell, which is the worst decision ever.

Kai is right, Donny Darko is more hype the content.  Mediocre movie.

On a lighter not

Catcher in the Rye AND the Perks of Being a Wallflower were both great if quite highschool emo books.

I love how on every myspace page where the kid tries to pass off as unique and intellectual they list that book (Catcher in the Rye) first in their list of favorite books, followed by "YOU SHALL KNOW OUR VELOCITY" which I refuse to even look at based off the name.

A quick google shows it was written by Dave Eggers who apperently also wrote A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius which has been getting some attention here lately.

/out to go read some Dave Eggers

i agree that the catcher in the rye and perks of being a wallflower were quite emo, but they were good all the same. true, also, that many people like to tell people they loved the catcher in the rye to sound deep, but it is really a great book.

When I said emo I wasnt slamming them.

In the Books that changed your life thing I gave The Catcher in the Rye top spot for real reasons.  But they do deal with alot of teenage depression and angst and generally emo issues,  hence the emo tag.

I <3 them neway.

The Bell Jar? Sylvia Plath.

Sylvia Plath is/was awesome. Just fantastic. The Bell Jar does the whole disillusioned youth thing, but takes it much further. She was a wonderful writer.

If you liked Snow Crash, you'll totally dig Jennifer Government.

If you got a kick out of Jennifer Government, then First Contract might very well be up your alley.

If you loved the Jagged Alliance series, "Dogs of War" by Fredrick Forsyth is a fantastic chaser.

Hot damn this forum is awesomeness! I still think Bruce Campbell would have been really good as the latest James Bond. I don't care if he'd be all super sleazy and cheesy, he'd still make a great Bond.

This thread has made me realise I need to go to the library soon, I have nothing but silly Virginia Andrews romance sagas to read

Seconded, and I will get on out and see Maria Full of Grace since both those movies, well I was too stoned to remember the Motorcycle Diary movie, but I <3 the book.

Also, everyone knows the new Bond would have been Clive Owen in a perfect world.  But this isn't aperfect world, so there you go.

Bruce Campbell as Bond would be good, but honestly, I prefer him to do the B-movie stuff. They Call Me Bruce sounds like the greatest thing since....Bubba Ho-Tep.

While I appreciate the sentiment directed towards Steve Buscemi, who I certainly enjoy, I have been misquoted twice now.  I actually said the following:

Quote from: Yours Truly
On that note, if you liked Bowfinger, Ed Wood, Adaptation, or Clerks, you will LOVE Living in Oblivion.

I was merely trying to recommend my favorite Buscemi film, Living in Oblivion.  The actual source of the quote attributed to me is Trollstormur, just above my Living in Oblivion quote.

Carry on.

i would totally argue against this if it probably wasn't true.

if you liked snow crash, you will like neuromancer.
if you havn't already read neuromancer, you'll read it and be like "wow, this is just like in snow crash.....and so is this......and this......and this!" but you actually read them backwards, so you should be reading snow crash going "wow this is just like neuromancer......and this......and so is this....and so is this!"

TRIPPY!!!

If you like Steve Buscemi, you'll probably find King of New York amusing.
If you like Christopher Walken, you'll very probably find Dogs of War (movie) and King of New York intriguing.

If you like red wine may I suggest a good Chardonnet instead.

If you liked City of God you may find Amores Perros to your liking as well (aesthetically, anyway; yes, it's a shallow-as-fuck comparison, but my stupid gringo ass thought them similar, so whatever).

If you liked The Designers Republic, you'll probably get a kick out of Buro Destruct.

Just to clarify, I am not saying it is a bad movie, but I didn't enjoy it. Instead I was pretty much in a state of utter confusion and repulsion during it all.
It was fascinating for sure but not exactly enjoyable.
