I used to have this website called Gryffindork where I made Harry Potter avatars for people. It rocked and rolled. Then I got sick of it.

anybody know how to work adobe after effects?

i just got it a couple days ago and i've been messing around with it. ever since i heard this flaming lips song i've wanted to make a music video with my characters, but after playing around for a couple days i realize that this is a very... ambitious goal.

here's my 6.5 seconds of kickin' stick man (http://www.mastersoftheart.com/files/stick-kick.swf) (also, it loops.)

anyhow, any tips on how to work it would be awesome, especially how to make it so the video doesn't just fill the browser, make a fixed and pretty size, ya know...

I've been keeping a rule for myself where all of my avatars are things I created (drawings, animations, the like.)  There are two exceptions, one where I took a screencap of 24's animation and turned that into an avatar, and one where I used a pic spinless made as my avatar.

I only use avatars that i make myself... sadly though, i can't shrink some ( or most ) of my virtual creations to 100 or 150 x same and still look ... like anything recognisable.

This particular thingie is made to be an avatar, and it shows ( if too hard to interpret ) a wolf with long hair and goatee... don't ask!

Not really sure if this is the right place for this......soooooo, just give me a swift kick in the right direction if not ;)

Number One:  I can't seem to get the avatar gallery on the site to work (is there even one?) but neither will it accept any of the URLs I give.  Any ideas how I can get an avatar?  Pwease?

Additionally, are there any Windows desktop icons floating around out there?  I've been feebly attempting to make my own (especially clean and cake-mixed Pintsize for empty/full Recycle Bin), but it just isn't working.  *sigh* I miss having Photoshop...

there are several programs available as free/shareware.
i'll edit for links....

but you might as well just use google, there are more applications out there... i have no idea which are good and which are not.

if you have photoshop, it comes with image ready, but you can only do so much with that. or maybe i'm just not image ready saavy, i dunno. there's other programs out there as well, i just don't know what they are.

I play EVE, and have a sig banner for the game's forum.

this is the original, which I accidentally made too large for the file size constraints of 24Kb. This one came in at 26,066 bytes:

Being pretty new to Photoshop, I've also had fun experimenting with filters, and tools like the clone stamp, which is what I did with the following screenshot. The whole idea was to make it look hand-painted, and include an impression of speed.

For anyone who still cares and is comfortable with a command line, Gifsicle (http://www.lcdf.org/gifsicle/) is a nice piece of work for making animated GIFs.

I sometimes create my own using paint (and by create I mean take an image I like an shorten it), but I mostly just use the ones from VG Cats
