Title: I'm a computer idiot, feel like helping?
Post by: pat101 on 28 Mar 2006, 12:33
Having recently joined a few "invite only" torrent sites I don't wanna fuck things up by not having a decent ratio. I'm using Azureus as my bittorrent client, I'm never getting the "green smiley faces" which would lead me to belive I have a "nat error" the thing is I have no clue what the hell a nat error is or how the hell to fix it. I'm using a wireless internet router, which seems to be the issue or something to that effect. If anyone one on here is kind enough to help me I'll be ultra-happy forever.

Yes I realize that my questions could be answered in the FAQ or something but that is all in techno-babble which I defenitly don't understand. So I beg for your help.

I just use plain old bittorrent... and I never have problems downloading exactly what I want, at a really good speed.  I do all my torrent searching through www.torrentz.com.  Never had a single problem.

Don't bother with the strange little 'invite only' clients/servers/sites.  Just do it the way everyone else does, and you shouldn't have a problem.

Bittorrented (so far):

70+ episodes of Bleach
30+ full length DVD-RIP movies
Photoshop CS2.0 with keygen/crack/etc
Stubbs the Zombie (PC and Mac)
FileMaker Pro v. 7.0 (or 6.0, I can't remember)
Call of Duty
...and many many more programs that I can't remember off the top of my head.

OH YEAH... MAYA CGI rendering - full version.

you have to open port that azureus uses. Go to you router preferences (usuali some IP like 192.168.1.1) and in virtual server set that port to your home network IP.  And don't forget to change your defult port in azureus (6881) to something else because this port is blacklisted on almost all trackers.

BTW I recommend utorrent (http://www.utorrent.com) for downloading and uploading torrents because it is almost the same as azureus just uses less memory (Azureus ~ 140MB, utorrent ~ 4MB)

uTorrent = very yes.

Anyways, Pat, do you know the brand name and model number of your router? There are usually online-guides for the more common boxes, maybe we could hook you up with one of them.
