Title: The Raconteurs
Post by: pat101 on 04 Apr 2006, 13:37
I'm listening to the album right now (minus a corrupted track 9) and so far it's pretty good, I mean I'm a fairly big White Stripes fan and I don't think it measures up to that level yet, but granted I'm not nearly done the album. Anyone else heard this, and if so what are the thoughts?

on another note Devandra Banhart apparently just left a message on my last.fm page about Jens Lekman, I'm slightly freaking out.

I only know the single, but the single is fucking brilliant and I am immensely interested in the album. I think this is the music Jack White should be making.

Eh. The single is not bad, but not amazing. Brendan has done far better stuff and I'm not really a White Stripes fan.

Nor am I, which is why I'm so bemused at my love for a song that's just four chords for three minutes.

I just listened to the album for the first time today, and it's okay, but I wouldn't say it's anywhere near as good as the White Stripes' stuff, but that's coming from someone who's a big WS fan.  I really don't like track 2 on the album, "Hands".  The rest of it's pretty good though.  My favorite track would probably be "Yellow Sun".

I think my favorite tracks are "Together" and "Level"

Haven't listened to the whole thing but I love the single. I think that having Jack White in the band will affect it's popularity, the people who don't like the white stripes won't even listen and the people who love em will follow blindly. I made some of my friends listen to them and told them it had Jack White in it afterwards.

I don't like the Stripes, and I plan on giving this band a listen...

I admit that I wanted to hear the album mainly because Jack White is in the band, but I found that it's something I would like even if he wasn't.

There's a review of the new raconteurs album on Fat Amp Music

http://www.fatampmusic.com/reviews10.html

I dont own any White Stripes records but i love this so i guess it doesnt matter if you're a white stripes fan or not. I did like some of Brendan Bensons previous records though.

Yeah, turns out that was totally not true. I was drunk, and assumed because his name was Devandra, that it must be Devandra Banhart. I was wrong.

i'm pretty stoked to get this album. i've only heard the single but i liked it and want to hear more. the white stripes are easily my favorite contemporary band (i own all five of their cds and love every track on each one), and the raconteurs seem (remember i've only heard the single) more accesible then most white stripes stuff. i mean, its a full band and the music itself just seems more 'normal' if you know what i mean; compared to the white stripes.
i think it could potentially get people into the stripes who didnt like them before.

p.s. whens the album come out? the 15th or something like that?

They broke my rule of 3 earlier today.  Now I'll have to buy the album.  I'm a big White Stripes fan, and what I've heard of the Greenhornes, I've liked.  SO I'm expecting to like this album...

I first heard the single on the music  choice radio/tv thingy i have with my cable, I liked the song and it sounded vaugely familiar, latter research revealed the Jack White connection.
