Holy Crap. This looks awesome (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jB89-9X6YS0&eurl=)
No, this is not a joke. A group of fans are making this as an indie film, and it should be out in full this fall.
-
hell even if that is a joke video it was done really well !
i've certainly seen worse special effects on tv recently
-
Holy shit.
That gave me chills.
So... how long until Nintendo finds out and comes down on these guys like a ton of shit filled bricks? :\
-
I would love to see the Fire Temple boss (I forget the name, was it Volvaga or something?) with that kind of special effects.
Seriously though, how long is it going to take somebody to do a Zelda movie? I mean, they're already making a Metroid movie. If done right, a Zelda movie could be totally awesome.
-
I love the second comment on this page:
http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/zelda/low-budget-legend-of-zelda-film-trailer-163327.php
-
it's volvagia. you were close. ^_^
the hair... it's pretty terrible. aside from that, yay. but pretty much anything zelda is <3.
-
That was the best orgasm I have ever had.
-
This can either turn out really good, or really bad.
-
Honestly, I think this could turn out well. They seem to know what they're doing, and if they're this dedicated to Zelda, I'm betting they've got some good ideas going.
This is going to give Snakes on a Plane a run for best film of 2006.
-
Kirbo- you're damned right that is orgasmic.
That is one of the few movies that I would actually venture out of my house to see on the big screen.
They need to do the animation of the triforce a little better, just sharpie marks on the backs of their hands is not gonna cut it. Otherwise? I repeat, that was orgasmic.
Ganondorf looks just like I remember him from the game. He PWNS!
I would also like to see how they do Shadow link the mini-boss from the water temple. (My favorite boss of all time if you couldn't tell.) This doesn't really relate to this perticular thread, but have any of you beaten him w/ just your sword and not the hammer? It took me like an hour to hit him once, but I finally did, and it got easier after the first hit.
-
sweet. needless to say; i'm stoked.
-
For an indie movie with special effects to the likeness of a sci-fi channel origional movie, it looks really good. It looks like they are trying to be fairly faithful to the game which is nice. It looks like there won't be a navi or a deku tree which would have been ok, but by all means not necessary. There is something about the end, when Link is bloodied that makes the movie look just that much better.
I just want to know how the game will be distributed. Straight to video? Theatres? Their web site says that they don't know how they will do it, but the movie will be out by fall 06? That seems to be poor planing.
I sure hope it doesn't suck out loud.
-
Awesome!
I've been a huge fan of Zelda for a long time and Ocarina of Time was definately my favorite. I personally would like to be a part of something like that!
And Ganondorf looked really good(as in a good resemblence) Link could use some work and Zelda has blonde hair. But it's not a major production so for they're budget they're doing fantastic!
-
I'm not sure what everyone thinks is so cool. Most of the pageantry, while well-done, is standard Renaissance Fair stuff. The Zelda specific stuff is pretty bad. Like, since when is Link a tousle-haired fratboy? He's supposed to be a wiry little boy, not some freakin Borimir-wannabe.
-
i am very intrigued by this. i adore the zelda franchise....so i hope they don't butcher things....
edit: new name thingy!!
-

Agreed. I haven't played any of the Zelda games (aww, get over it) and to a non-fan such as myself that trailer just looks incredibly lame. Like, Adventures of Hercules Kevin Sorbo lame.
-
Gah. I've typed this out like six or seven different times trying to ballance politeness with forcefulness, but its not sticking. So fuck it, heres the short version:
Its an indie film. Either pony up the dough for better props, or take it like it is.
Me, im excited. And i'm not even a huge Zelda fan. :)
-
Oh man, that trailer was unintentionally hilarious
-
This is going to give Snakes on a Plane a run for best film of 2006.
Heresy. Nothing will give Snakes on a Plane a run for best film of 2006.
-
Its an indie film. Either pony up the dough for better props, or take it like it is.
Rubbish! Why should I settle for less? I'll accept dodgy props and wobbly sets - hell, Darkstar is one of my favourite films - but I draw the line at cliche, hokiness, and actors that you could make floor-boards out of. Bottom line: if the trailer of your movie makes me laugh out loud, and it's not a comedy, then I'm spending my A$15 on beer. They lost me at that "Oh my god I'm sliding down a mountain!" bit.
-
To all of you haters, for being a self-funded fan made movie, this is damned impressive.
And if you aren't into Zelda, this isn't really a movie made for you. I'm hoping I'll be in Calgary when this get released, I know some people at a theater downtown (The Globe for you Calgarians here), and I may be able to get them to do a showing.
-
To all of you haters, for being a self-funded fan made movie, this is damned impressive.
I guess that's the issue. I love the Zelda games, I just have no interest in fanfic. If you do, then this movie is a cosplayer's dream come true.
-
It's not that I'm into fanfic, I'm into filmmaking and this blows me away. It helps that Zelda is a fantastic series (Yet Bloodrayne gets a movie?), and I honestly think from reading what these guys and gals have done it's going to be good. Not that it won't be cheesy, but if you're expecting LOTR here, you're going to be disappointed.
-
Bloodrayne sucked, LOTR sucked.
You want an example of an interesting movie in this vein? Labyrinth. The exquisite puppets are of course out of the scope of an indie film project, but the overall creativity is exactly what an indie movie can do and a Zelda movie demands.
-
LOTR Sucked?
I'm not the only one who feels this way? I'm not alone!! I agree with you there jh.
As for Labyrinth, I'll look into it.
-
so if this does come out, it's going to cause one major lawsuit.
-
I doubt it. Nintendo isn't going to lose anything if this comes out.
-
Well, except for any trademark. As in, if they have "Legend of Zelda" trademarked, failing to protect their trademark means they risk losing the trademark. They probably don't have the title trademarked (for creative works, copyright is more important and more relevant,) but corporations (and, more to the point, corporate lawyers) aren't ones to take chances.
To put it another way, any intellectual property has a finite value associated with it referred to as "brand equity." If you let other people use your intellectual property, then you are lose some of that brand equity.
-
They're almost certainly gonna fuck it up.
-
Jhocking, I don't know what you just said, but I'm more inclined to think "Nintendo aren't douches." If they don't leave it alone, I'll cry.
-
Four words: JIM HENSON IS DEAD.
-
Four words: JIM HENSON IS DEAD.
What does that mean in this context?
-
They're talking about Dark Crystal 2; Jim Henson's shop did the puppet work in both Labyrinth and Dark Crystal.
As for Nintendo not being douchebags, actually they kinda are. They make great games, but their corporate policy is basically YOU ARENT WORTHY FUCK YOU
-
Ok, missed the reference.
As for Nintendo, I love them. They make systems for games, not for all this multimedia bullshit. They aren't high and mighty, they just refuse to buckle to the pressure of the masses.
Nintendo- Games for gamers.
-
They're great toward gamers, yes, but their attitude toward developers (and someone making a movie has moved into the "content developer" category) is really draconian.
-
Psssh! This isn't a Legend of Zelda fan movie it is a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time fan movie.
-
they should include Samuel L Jackson.
-
Great. I'm going to have nightmares after that. Thanks.
-
Now that's a movie I'd pay to see!
-
DOOD where did you find that?
-
I remember seeing that! awesome for finding it again. *bookmark'd*
The thing at the end where they're all like, air punch dancing the ogre thing? priceless.
-
i read like a long time ago in EGM that some guy made a top down "classic" version of Ocarina of time on his computer, or at least started one. Nintendo said they were fine with him making it, as long as he didn't sell it or make a profit from it. My guess is they would react the same way to this movie. if they did it as pure fan fiction for fun, they'd be fine. If they release the movie and try to make money, i bet the makers are screwed.
-
That Zelda thing is awesome! Really excellent opening lyrics:
出る出る、ゼルだの伝説
It's here, it's here, The Legend of Zelda!
出る出る出る出るついに出る
It's here it's here it's here it's here it's just now here!!
-
Agreed. I haven't played any of the Zelda games (aww, get over it) and to a non-fan such as myself that trailer just looks incredibly lame. Like, Adventures of Hercules Kevin Sorbo lame.
I haven't played any of the Zelda games either. You aren't alone.
But you thought Hercules was lame? With Sexy Sorbo? The hell is wrong with you? The Chin directed some of those episodes! Nothing The Chin touches can ever be anything less than awesome.
LOTR Sucked?
I'm not the only one who feels this way? I'm not alone!! I agree with you there jh.
Nope, not alone. The only thing LOTR was good for was bursting my bladder. Honestly, I thought I was going to die. When will they learn? The length of a movie should be directly proportional to the capacity of the human bladder!
Although, I did think Smeagle was adorable in the second one. I totally wanted to just cuddle him.
I doubt it. Nintendo isn't going to lose anything if this comes out.
You'd be surprised. Especially if they are planning to sell the tapes or in any way make profit from it. Plus, they may feel that it might pose some problems in the future if they ever decide to release their own Zelda movie.
But, you gotta admire anyone who puts the time, money, and effort into doing something like this.
-
I've seen the trailer before, so when I saw the first post I thought "Ha! Irony! He is saying it looks 'awesome' but really he means 'ridiculous'!"
Then I read the next post.
And the next one.
And the next one.
And so on…
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?
PS: The dancing Zelda thing was friggin' sweet.
-
To all of you haters, for being a self-funded fan made movie, this is damned impressive.
No it's not. It looks like exactly what you say - the screen version of bad fanfic. I shudder to think about how bad the dialogue will probably be. And for the record, I love the Zelda games.
For an example of an impressive low-budget movie, go rent Primer.
-
This goes without being said, but if you want a low budget movie which will melt your face off, it's El Mariache. But everyone knows that one, and I'm no good at making obscure references.
Both the Ocarina of Time fan film and the dancing zelda look fricken awesome. I can appreciate it (The ocarina of time one) because it is art, and looks like it'll provide some kicks along the way.
-
Art? No, it is not art. It is not an "indie film". It is fanboys and girls playing dressup and looking completely ridiculous.
It is low budget because no one in their right mind would EVER consider funding something like this.
…How are you not embarrassed to watch this?
Seriously, it just reminds me of those Star Wars nerds who were reenacting the Phantom Menace while waiting in the queue for Attack of the Clones on that Triumph the insult dog thing.
-
I guess we have very different ideas of what art is, then. I'm not interested in debating the meaning of art, however, so I'll just simply agree to disagree.
-
By your definition since I appreciate the Zelda fan film, it becomes art based on my perception. So what's the problem?
-
Way to fuck up a thread by trolling guys. Thanks.
(Honest thanks to those of you who were polite)
