Hello peoples. First post, I decided, is not going to be a two-paragraph autobiography in the Newbie Sections, but a picture, for you! Drew it at work in sticky black biro on regular A4 fax paper. Coloured in PSElements, but don't pick on that so much: when it comes to colouring, I'm a tad rubbish. Otherwise, critique and help me out any way you like. Be gentle! (I can take it really, say what you will :P)
The Flying Rage:

Inspired by one of those quiz doo-thingies that gives you random answers. My Superhero alter-ego is The Flying Rage, my Superpower is Genetic engineering, my Weakness/Enemy is Clowns, my Weapon is my Rusty Tentacles and my Mode of Transportation is Skis. Forgot the genetic engineering, but there's probably some mutant DNA hidden in a secret pocket sewn into those neon green Y-fronts, for sure... ^_^

hmm, I don't like double-posting, but here's some more super superperson goodness. Plus I want to ask questions this time, proper critique type questions: like for example, is the girl's chest a little big? are her arms the right length? aside from proportion... is her face kooky? Any and all help would be appreciated. Plus any and all critique on the other picture too would be great.

oh, also some other stuff:

second post third one is kinda whack D:
-
whack
by "whack" you mean bad? or crazy? or... good?
thanks for commenting anyhow, I did that one on PS Elements with just the paint tool, smudge tool and layering. No prizes for guessing what the subject is (here's a clue: it's my arm)

i really like second post first drawing. i dont quite know why.
EDIT: reason: monsterman.
-
Just about everyone who draws chicks ends up putting their boobs too high on their chests. The first drawing on the second post is only slightly less guilty of this than the one that follows it.
That's OK, though, because everyone does that. I'm not an artist myself, but it seems like one of the most common mistakes there is when you're drawing figures.

Something useful I learned from reading the Da Vinci Code is a seemingly not-so-wellknown ratio concerning human anatomy:
[distance from top of head to belly button] : [distance from belly button to bottom of feet] = 1:phi = 1 : 1.618
Lots of artists tend to place the belly button too close to the middle of the body. The woman looks good in general, but her torso looks to be a mite too tall compared to her legs.
But, of course, as you are reading this information on the internet, it should be taken with a grain of salt; I certainly am not a self-proclaimed professional of art, but that ratio is a very helpful thing to keep in mind when drawing profiles.

You have to be a fellow brit. I love the word crotch.
-
oh christ, both the wizard and luke are right. Damn. Means work on proportion... oh well, I don't really want to edit this one, so I'll work on proportion separately, maybe post some rough sketches here later.
and yes, Moll, I am indeed a briton, and the word crotch is so damned useful, there's no beating it.
-
Nah, they use the word crotch out of England... it's pretty widely used in my corner of the States. Well, you know, in context.
Cool superhero!! I've always had a soft spot for those.
-
ZJ - if you find things in your art that need work, that's a good thing. Always.
Also, don't go back and edit your sketches. It's always fun to look at old stuff and see how much you've improved - just implement your new tactics in new sketches.

That is true.
I must also comment upon your signature. Yellow is indeed the most useful, but I find pink much more restful.
-
thanks luke.
I'm drafting out lots of positioning work right now, I'll have it up soon for you lovely peoples to look at.
and Moll...
pink? I always found pink custard to be a bit... violent. Plus the tellytubby connotations disturbed me. Like I was eating Noo-noo's snot. reference:

and THAT is where pink custard comes from.
chocolate custard's quite nice though. soothing.
