so, i currently have a DiPinto Galaxie IV (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v32/TheHusseinSkank/IMG_0014.jpg) guitar (on the left: Fender DG-10 that needs its action adjusted), a Reverend Goblin practice amp (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v32/TheHusseinSkank/IMG_0015.jpg), and a Fender '65 Twin Reverb reissue (http://www.fenderrhodes.com/img/models/amp/fender-twin-reverb.jpg) (at home).
as far as guitars go, i'm looking for something relatively lightweight, no-frills, and in a left-handed model. two that i've played that i'm interested in are the DiPinto Mach IV (http://www.adirondackguitar.com/lefty/dipinto/mach4.jpg) and the Danelectro U2 (http://www.shreveaudio.com/danelectro/U2lefty.gif).
on the amp front, i love my Twin Reverb, but it's got no gain whatsoever. so i've got two options: an outright replacement, at which point i'd probably get a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe (http://media.zzounds.com/media/brand,zzounds/fit,325by400/quality,85/021-3200-d0142d46636d808bcd6c8214f3e50e1a.jpg); or a good effects pedal. now having had experience with various overdrive pedals, i know that most of them don't even come close to replicating the sound of a real tube amp going into overdrive, but i've heard that the Soldano Supercharger GTO (http://asharpmusicco.com/effects/effectart/supercharger.jpg) overdrive pedal comes the closest (and it better, for how much it costs).
so... anyone with recommendations/suggestions/experience with the stuff i'm interested in?

Can't tell you much about left handed guitars, but I can say this: I have an old Dan Electro and I loved it. It was my first guitar (Currently I'm rocking a strat). They're not bad guitars.
EDIT: That Electro looks ultra strikingly similar to mine, save that mine is right handed and a cream/white color.

i bought a dan electro distortion box back in the day coz it looked so cool, but i wound up hating it after like 2 weeks because i couldn't get good enough tone. I've played the dan electro guitars a few times, coz they look so damn cool, but I've never been that impressed with it. i guess what i'm getting at is, be careful with the dan electro merchandize coz they look so cool, but often don't work out... at least in my experience.

If I were you, I'd try the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe out. They are a lot more versatile than a twin, due to their gain stage/channel (which, whilst not approaching metal levels, still puts out a good dirty sound). One of the most versatile and common amps of our time at the moment - sooo dependable!
On the Pedal front, there really is soooo many overdrives to reccomend... Really, the question is, what SORT of amp boosting into overdrive are you trying to replicate with the pedal? Are you going for the guts-for-glory AC30? The cranked brownface '60's Marshall? The roar of the Twin breaking up (and breaking windows) at 110 dB?
That's the sort of info I would need before giving you a reccomendation.

i've heard some troubling things about the Supercharger GTO, so i think i'll just get a new amp (that's the more financially sound decision, anyway). the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe is still a consideration, but someone also pointed me in the direction of the Peavey Delta Blues amplifier, so i might check that out (i am definitely going to try out any amp i'm interested in before i buy it, with MY guitar). as for the sound i'm going for... hm. as far as overdrive goes, something warm and meaty (ha-HA! Freudian.); Jawbreaker's Dear You album has some nice guitar sounds on it, so i'd probably cite that as sounding similar for what i'm going for. i also dig the guitar tones on The Aquabats' latest album, CHARGE!!. reverb is also a must for whatever amp i get, as there's not a whole lot that i find more fun than cranking the reverb up to epic levels a la Dick Dale and playing some hot surf licks. footswitchability is a definite plus. my price range will probably be somewhere around $250-$600, depending on various factors.

I've tried out an EH Holy Grail in stores, and if you end up getting an amp without reverb, you should pick it up.

i have one, it's pretty lame compared to real tube reverb.

I've got the Marshall MG100DFX. It's got the only reverb I've ever heard that didn't sound like ass.
And Ibanez has some pretty sweet cheap, lightweight guitars. They're of decent quality, too, although if you don't have a locking tremolo and nut, if you whammy it you're going to go wickedly out of tune.

Man, you guys need to just answer this guys question. He doesn't want a reverb pedal! Those things are eats... The only add on reverb you'd ever want is a Fender Tube Reverb unit, which are a quarter the size of an amp themselves.
The Peavey Delta Blues and the Classic 30 are both suitable alternatives to a Hot Rod. Usually I find that in most peoples minds, the Hot Rod is ranked first, and the acceptable alternatives are those two, but really, any of them are perfectly fine for what you are looking to do.
I'll have to clue myself up on the bands you referenced, as I'll be the first to say I don't know them. But at the end of the day, if your serious about your tone, and about getting a specific one from an artist, then do the decent thing... use google, and buy what they use. Simple as that.

well, i'm not really looking to replicate their tones exactly, i was just using those as general guidelines.
