Title: Shellac + New Year: Awesomeness or Meh?
Post by: karl gambolputty... on 20 Apr 2006, 11:05
So I just bought me a ticket to see The New Year and Shellac play in June, and I'm pretty excited.  I'm a disgusting Kadane-brothers-fanboy, and Steve Albini is... Steve Albini.  Problem is, not only have I never seen either of them live, I've heard maybe 4 songs by Shellac.  So, I'd rather my bubble be burst now than at the show.  Any opinions?

The first time I ever heard about Shellac (or Steve Albini) was when a friend took me to see a show. And thus I was converted. Not only do they put on a great show, but they have a ritual Q&A! Just watch you don't ask anything too goofy, or you'll get the Bob Weston Death Stare.

As for New Year, I am having no ideas mang.

Yeah, I'd be way too intimidated to ask them anything, so I'm prolly safe from the Death Stare

Shellac are amazing live. I haven't heard any of the New Year's stuff, but their name is kind of sucky.

They are significantly more awesome than their unfortunate name would suggest.  They sort of sound like a very loud Yo La Tengo.

That's actually a pretty kickass combination. I'm quite the Shellac fan and the couple of songs I've heard by the new year have been good too. Hopefully they'll stop by Toronto, yes?
