Title: Post pics and words about your beloved drum kits
Post by: Snail of Doom on 25 Apr 2006, 22:48
... and comment on each other's

Okay, I don't have any pics of mine, so I'll describe it

It is the shit. It's a vintage Ludwig jazz kit with the following:

Four toms (Including floor tom. There's also two more toms that I could add if I wanted)
Five cymbals (Two crashes, one ride, one sizzle, and one splash)
One kick (specs to come later)
One very valuable and shiny snare
One hat, of the opening and closing variety

My dad has had it since college, and not much has changed (Well, except drumheads of course)
I've gotten a new stool (after breaking one), I've changed the stands on a couple of cymbals, I've changed the kick pedal, and I've bought a little tambourine dealy for the hat.

My only little pet peeves are that the snare is pretty finicky about where you hit it, and the bass drum doesn't have a back head. My childhood teddy bear is currently providing the padding for it. My teddy probably has considerable hearing damage by now, but he still likes to rock out

Post your own now and comment on mine and others'. KTHXBYE

My kit Tanngrisner and Tanngjost (one entity, two names) It began as a simple 5 piece jazz kit with two brass, then i added onto it and replaced the old cymbals and hi-hat. the bases are all still used though. Replaced the single kick with a double pedal. one of the heads is original, had it for two years. I probably should replace it soon. (it's a shoulder tom)

20in ride, 18in crash, 16in crash, 14in hi-hat, and the rest I'm not sure, standard i guess.

I'm not a drummer, but my dormmate is.  And he's got this:

And he's got his double-pedal double-tom bass pedal from his original set supplementing it.
It also comes with a set of $50 headphones that seals all sound in, so aside from the muffled sounds from actually hitting the pads, we don't hear a thing while he's practicing.  So we don't have to throw him out of the dorm.
And the pads are everything-sensitive.

Commence drooling.

(I know, it's not mine, but I'm having pride vicariously.)

When my dad moved out, he left me his custom made 9-ply Pearls + Zildjians. They're still packed away in the basement (I play guitar).

I don't know that I have any pictures of it, but I'll take a look this afternoon and post results.

Dude, I've only briefly had a slight introduction to this kind of thing but from what I've picked up so far (and this is pretty much all I've picked up), that's hot.

Man, I love electronic drum kits. You can make 'em sound like ANYTHING, for christ's sake

Khar: how much does that kind of thing cost (for lowest end)? Also, does it come with samples, and what output ports does it have?

Har, I do not have a physical one, only an emulator. I HAVE MISLED WITH PICTURES! I do actually own a drum machine, but it is a significantly less awesome drum machine. I would totally love me a proper TR-909 though.

If it must be things I have that are real and physical:

Where would one get an emulator? (I've been looking for such a thing, but cannot find one)

There's one built into FL Studio. Any drum-machine program will do though, I would imagine it is not too hard to locate the original 909 samples, and if it is too hard, I could send them to you if you drop me a PM.
