My friend and I were feeling pretty nostalgic the other day after watching the french version of Beauty and the Beast and ever since then we have been wanting to watch the Disney version.
Sometimes it is necessary to revisit your childhood. So what are your favorite childhood movies, books and TV shows ?
-
Favourite childhood book would probably have to be The Three Little Pigs from the Wolf's perspective, and some random book about Beavers.
I would read anything and everything because I would get bored, and they had to teach me to read before i even got to school because I wasn't a social child.
One movie I would never watch as a child was The Lion King, it was just too sad for me.

Bridge to Terabithia. Nothing beats it.
Except for maybe The Fire Cat (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0064440389/sr=8-1/qid=1146057499/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-7626814-3407102?%5Fencoding=UTF8)

I'm gunna stick with Disney and go with Aladin. The movie coupled with the video game on the sega mega drive.
I also get quite nostalgic watching Top Gun. Seriously, it was my favourite movie as a kid, I'd watch it when I was sick and fast forward through the sex scenes.
-
Movie: Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (Who Framed Roger Rabit being a close second)
Book: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
TV Show: either I Love Lucy or Animaniacs/Pinky & The Brain
-
TV show: Ren and Stimpy. I watched that obsessively and haven't seen it in years ;_;
Also TV show: Thunder Cats. Because they're awesome.
Comic: Tintin. Because Captain Haddock was awesome.

I had to read Bridge To Terabithia when I was in year 5. It was kinda depressing IIRC.
When I was small I used to love the Star Wars movie. I'd watch them about 3 times in one saturday or sunday, also used to love the Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, the Ghoulies movies and the Last Starfighter.
Too many books to name and ditto with TV shows.
-
Movie: Terminator 2 and Labyrnth
Book: Diez Cuentos de Lobos (Ten Tales about Wolves)
TV Show: James Bond Jr, Samurai Pizza Cats and Saint Seiya.
-
Harold and the Purple Crayon
-
Movies: Milo and Otis.
Books: Don't remember being really little and loving certain books, but the Star Wars novels were bloody incredible around 5th grade 'till the begining of 9th.
TV Shows: Due South, MacGyver, Dr. Who, Brisco County Jr., Monty Python's Flying Circus, etc. I was wierd kid.
-
books: anything by Roald Dahl
films: blues brothers movie
-
Yeah, I was WAY into Brisco County Jr. in 1st grade. I can't remember why I stopped watching it, I think they changed times or something
-
Or maybe it ended, as it didn't last long at all.
-
Bridge to Terabithia.
Man did I ever dislike the ending to that book. It got really weird.
But anyways, Phantom Tollbooth. I think I said that in another thread? I want to read it now.
EDIT: I searched for "Bridge to Terabithia" to see if I was the only one who disliked it. Lo and behold, the first site I click on is one that a teacher in my public school system started when I was in 4th grade that I had completely forgotten about. It was a review written by this guy that I remember... bizarre. I'm looking for my old username now.
EDIT2: Hahaha, this is funny. Books I reviewed and the number (out of 5) I gave them:
- Artemis Fowl 5
- Lirael 5
- Below the Root 5
- Sabriel 5
- The Hero and the Crown 5
- The Number Devil: A Mathematical Adventure 5 (omg best book evar)
- The Hobbit 5
- The Birchbark House 4
I was not very picky.
-
Movie: Fox and The Hound
Book: Chicken Soup for the kid's soul (Soulfood!)
TV Show: ---- I didn't watch that much TV as a kid o.O
-
Movie: Oliver and Company
Books: Goosebump series
TV: Boy Meets World
-
TV: Boy Meets World
... I think I love you.
Also:
Book: Matilda, Little House on the Prarie, The Witches, oh! and Babysitter's Little Sister, Weetzie Bat
Movie: The Last Unicorn.. obviously... Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Back to the Future
TV: Teen Angel, Babar, Madeleine, Gargoyles, Ready or Not, Party of Five
-
The Disney version of Robin Hood was my favorite movie. That fox could shoot.
My favorie show was The Gummi Bears. They were by far better than the Care Bears. I'd pick bouncing around, kicking ogres in the face over shooting "love" out of my stomach anyday.
-
Robin Hood used to scare me... so did the Jungle Book.
I think I was just too fearful as a child

Little Nemo : Adventures in Slumberland was the freakiest kids movie. I never got through it all until I decided to watch it again at 16.
-

Movie: The Velveteen Rabbit, at least when I was really young. After about age eight or nine, Aliens.
Book: Jurassic Park
TV Show: The Tick

Cartoon: Darkwing Duck and Goof Troop
at least as far as Disney is concerned.
-
Hmmz, way too much TV I watched back then. Hardly at all now.
Movies; disneys like Toy Story and something I believe was called "All dogs go to heaven'.
Series ... Samson&Gert! Denver last dinosaur and cpt Planet theme songs are still in my head.
-
alice in wonderland (book), animaniacs (show), and the land before time (movie), and the last unicorn (movie & book). the last unicorn is by far the best thing to come out of my childhood, followed closely by alice in wonderland.
-
(movie & book). the last unicorn is by far the best thing to come out of my childhood
You must be a wonderful human being then!
I have a terrible habit of just assuming that if you were addicted to that movie as a child you are automatically a great person haha.
-
Another movie I loved: The Never Ending Story
I want a dragon that flies.
-
*Sigh*
I liked Kidd Video when I was a kid. I even have the soundtrack on mp3s. The shame...

I want a crappy dog thing that flies.

Just cause you don't have a favorite doesn't mean you can judge ours.
But Valcor did look like a dog, so you have a point.

I was all about TMNT. All things TMNT. I still have my TMNT backpack from kindergarten, and a plethora of action figures in a closet somewhere. I've got a TMNT rpg supplement book from the old pen and paper from like 87. nutty stuff.

Rah bah bah. He might've been the World's Strongest Man, but The Tick was nigh invulnerable!
-
Does anyone remember the show about gnomes on Nickelodeon?
And the Smurfs rock.
-
David the Gnome was waaay to cute for me as a kid. Gimme the Gummi Bears, Pete and Pete (the DVDs of which I own AND IT STILL FUCKING ROCKS), Salute Your Shorts, and Ninja Turtles anyday.
-
Fragle Rock! Loved that show!

I have a shirt that says 'I'm a Fraggle Rocker'
-
Awesome!
Are You Afraid of the Dark?
-
Favourite childhood movie/book/TV show?
The answer is Batman. The answer is ALWAYS Batman. I even had one of those audio-book things. Y'know, where someone reads the book on tape. I was all about Batman. And Robin was so badass back then, when it was still allowable to be a cool smartass 15-year-old who beats up old men.
And then, suddenly, George Clooney appears with his Bat-Nipples. That mono-brow sporting freak RUINED my childhood.
-
Awesome!
Are You Afraid of the Dark?
One of the old stars of 'are you afraid of the dark?' used to board with my family.
Also has anyone seen the movie Fern Gully? J'adore!
-
"My name is Batty..."
Yes I have, and that is awesome that you knew one of the actors.
-
The Brave Little Toaster.
-
i don't think i did anything but read when i was little. my mom kept giving me these really long books, too. my favorites were the anne of green gables series and my family and other animals.
-
I read the biography of John Paul Jones when I was a kid.
-
I read everything about the Beatles.
Also I started reading J.D. Salinger and John Irving pretty young.
-
I was a total child of the 90's:
Ninja Turtles--I used to know all the words to the "Ninja Rap"(go ninja go ninja go ninja go)
Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain were up there too.
I devoured all the Narnia books but couldn't get into Lord of the Rings.
My favorite movie for the longest time was Muppet Treasure Island (I still love it!)
-
Another movie I loved: The Never Ending Story
I want a dragon that flies.
One of my fave movies of all time.
SCORE.
-
When Falcore dies in that movie it is so very said... or when the horse dies... wow that is a pretty morbid kid's movie.
-
I have forgetten many of the character names over the years, so I will have to dig it out someday, but watching that horse sink due to it lossing its belief was terrible. There were a lot of fucked up things in that "kids" movie, that's for sure.
-
While on that topic, I must say that the Robot Chicken bit with the Neverending Party was pretty damn hilarious.
