Title: Summer Festivals
Post by: Makeout_Hobo on 04 May 2006, 16:00
There are only two I am currently planning on attending, and only one I am going to for sure. I WILL be at Bonnaroo, and possible lollapalooza. Both of the shows have amazing line ups, and I think it will be bomb either way. But any one else planning attendance/would want to meet up out there?

I am spoken for at Lollapalooza, and will be sharing the van with 3-4 friends at Bonnaroo, which is not condusive for makeouts, given the closeness of it all.
I will however, drink beers and possibly burn one down with people at either event! Also groove to sweet indie rock sounds.

And maybe makeouts, if I can get the one who is speaking for me to be down to share and or get my friends to go other places.

possibly lollapalooza or intonation. intonatoin is cheaper and has bloc party and the streets, so probably intonation.

Yeah, but lollapolooza has every good indie band ever. As well as quality hip hop acts!

Intonation and Lollapalooza both for me, at present. I love how my city has suddenly become a hot spot for big events.

I kinda want to go to the Hootenanny in California, but the line up is kind of bland.

Man, I hate all you midwest dwellers so much. I plan to hit up Lolla if I can scrape together the money for airfare and a ticket. The lineup is really too good to miss, frankly. For Wilco, The Dresden Dolls, Death Cab, Iron & Wine, Rev. Horton Heat, The Go! Team, Of Montreal and about a gajillion other bands, it's worth it!

Splendour in the Grass is inherently dissapointing this year. That is a bummer because it is pretty much the only major winter festival in Australia, and none of the summer ones are really worth going to (excepting the Falls Festival and Homebake)

Dang, I am kind of thinking about going on a holiday to the US to see some festivals, but my savings barely cover the airfare, let alone the cost of beer and water.

I actually just won two tickets to Lollapalooza in the lolla haiku contest on their website.  Woohoo!  Dude I felt so victorious.

So anyway I'm going to Lolla and Pitchfork, and I think that's probably it.

I can't make Lollapalooza unfortunately because I'll be elsewhere in the world, but I'm going to be rocking the Pitchfork festival this summer because last year Intonation was fun, but I like the Pitchfork acts better.  I think my best friend and I are going together.  She went with me last year so it should be a party.  Ted Leo always has a great show.

I'll be going here (http://www.fkpscorpio.com/meraluna/) again. Too poor to do Wacken as well this year but it's tentatively on the cards for 2007. Germany has all the best shit.

I'll probably be at Pitchfork and Plan-it-X Fest.  Hopefully I'll get to go to Lollapalooza as well.  Depending how much money I have and whether I can get off of work, I may consider Intonation as well.

Oh, and Wilco is at Summerfest again this year (for all you Wisconsin kids), so I'll probably go see them at least, since I usually can get at least one free day pass.  I may go see the Bangles as well.  Who can pass up the fucking Bangles?

I'm thinking of hitting up the end of times fest in Minneapolis. A bunch of noise legends like Borbetogamus, Boredoms and Smegma will be appearing, along with plenty of contemporary skrong friends.

I might end up Bonnaroo if I can find some folks to go. Everything else is way to far away. It sort of sucks. If I go I'll totally be like, "Hey guys, who wants to come meet this guy from the internets." And then I'll be all "If you come he might make out with you." And they'll be all, "ok!!".

I am considering going to Forma Nova and Fredericia Hardcore Festival. Forma Nova is for alternative mostly electronic music, so far they have Ulrich Schnauss and Plaid as the headliners. But I hope they will annonce some more familiar names in June or something. Fredericia Hardcore Festival is for, well, hardcore and alt. metal. It is my little brother who is bugging me to go, I don't know any of headliners like Blindside and Sworn Enemy or that weird argentine straight edge vegan band Nueva Etica.

If I could I would go to Spot or Roskilde but t there is school, money problems and lack of like-minded people to go with in the way. It is a damn shame since Roskilde's lineup is pretty good... well beside the headliners obviously. Though I suppose there are a fair bit of people who would salivate over Roger Waters playing the entirety of The Dark Side of the Moon. I am just not one of them.
But they have: Dälek, Sigur Rós, Kaizer's Orchestra, Under Byen, Rufus Wainwright, Animal Collective, Opeth, Placebo, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Death Cab, Matisyahu, Jenny Lewis, Lady Sovereign, Silver Jews, Why? plus a bunch of others.

I would kill to go to Wacken. Bleh.

I thought about going to Wakarusa this year, since I missed it, but the lineup isn't as good as last year and certainly doesn't warrant me saving up, since there's only like, 8 artists I'd really want to see. Although Buckethead would be great to see.

Because that is all the UK has to offer?

Besides no-one would degradate themselves to actually listen to "good" shit as oppose to "bad" shit. Why listen to Skyclad or whatever when I can listen to James heartfelt war veteran Blunt or a great band like Arctic Monkeys.

Most of the above was written slightly tongue-in-cheek.

I know what you mean, but in the end the main reason I doubt I'll go is the insanely high prices. I never thought a festival would come up were it truely was a better deal to go to the sideshows in venues you know and love against a giant festival atmospherey thingy.

Anyone in sydney area go the to great escape? I saw 90% of the acts when they went through brisbane, and as such I'm a little intriuged as how Sigur Ros sounded in an outdoor stage.

I am envying all of you guys who are like "I'm considering going to" and "I'll probably make it to..." because in the UK, you need to KNOW and be all set and book and pay for your ticket 4 months in advance if you want to go to pretty much all of the main festivals.
I'm not going to any :'(

I'm not really into the whole "festival" thing anymore, particularly multi-day festivals.  Too much going on at one time, and I just don't enjoy the atmosphere the way I did when I was younger. Plus, I'm one of those weird people who actually kind of enjoys being around people who bathe/shower at least once a day and aren't afraid to be generous with the anti-perspirant. I'll take a club show over the festival almost every time.  At least at the end, I get to shower/sleep in a comfortable bed.

I'll be going to Bumbershoot because I live in Seattle but so far the lineup is pretty sucky. Basically the only band I want to see is Of Montreal and Deerhoof and Metric are good as well. But more will be annonced so I'm hoping that some more good bands will be playing. I'm still pissed that I missed it last year because Mudhoney played and they've been my favorite band forever.

I'll definitely be at the Edmonton Folk Fest, this being the first year I've not been elsewhere during it.

3. Parents would be like, "no fucking way."

So I'll see you all in 5 years.

Confirmed performer's I'm looking forwards to so far are Feist, Sarah Harmer, The Stills, The Constantines, and a bunch of other's I won't fill this thread with.

My personal experience with Coachella would suggest that the funds allocated for tickets, transport, and sundry other expenses associated with such a festival would be better spent appropriating the not insignificant quantity of quality CDs (new and used) that could be purchased with such a sum.

To the less misanthropic of our humble little inter net community, have a ball.

So, there has been talk of this mysterious festival called Hedgpeth going on in Twin Lakes, WI that supposedly was being headlined by the Flaming Lips, but no information was available otherwise.  Well, for people in the midwest who may be interested, their website has launched and the lineup is looking pretty good.

Flaming Lips
Kings of Leon
They Might Be Giants
Minus The Bear
The Go! Team

...and 45 or so more (40 still unannounced).

It's $45 for two days, but I think it may end up being worth it.
