Title: Never Again!
Post by: rive gauche on 18 May 2006, 18:12
If you could pick one song to never have to ever listen to ever ever again, what song would you choose?

I would choose Another Brick in the Wall by Pink Floyd.

Oh god, how could I choose one song?

Kai's is a good choice, but My Humps is certainly up there as well, and that one System of a Down song that I can't remember the title of.

EDIT: I looked it up, it's Chop Suey. God I hate that song.

One for the ages: "My Sharona".  My god how I hate that song.

That song makes me so angry. I don't know why.

Man, have you ever recorded yourself doing a dramatic reading of my Humps? I can make that shit sound like Shakespeare.

I don't know what this has to do with the topic at hand, but it certainly makes the song seem much better.

EDIT: Ack. My Sharona should pretty much be taken into an alley and shot.

And the song has to be that Sheryl Crow song...WTF is it called?

"I'm gonna soak up the sun.."

That one.

BANANA PHONE

(Yeah I know ebaumsworld sux and steals and such but I'm far too lazy to find another link for this -- if you want to suggest one I'll edit the post)

And also, every time I hear Porcelain by Moby now, I sort of twitch and grimace a little bit.  I don't think I ever want to hear it again.  The first 10000 times were sufficient.

At first I thought this was 'what song would you listen to for all eternity'.
Who are you and what have you done with the real forums?

For me, The Sickness or whatever by Disturbed. I seriously hate this song more than is good for me.

Hotel California.  There must be some sort of law that makes it illegal for a classic rock station to go 12 hours without playing it.  It's the only explanation.

This is true: I saw it and at the end of the song I checked whether I was still alive. I just had the feeling that being dead must be a lot like THAT song. Not in the heaven or hell sense but in the sheer total nothingness. Utter black.

Ugh...they cut out the best part of that song. I mean is it so much to ask that if you're going to cover a song could you please try to do all the parts including the drumming?

Actually now that I come to think of it, mabye it's a good thing they did. They   would have butchered some badass Keith Moon drumming and then they'd probably be dead right now. Because I SO would have killed them.

This is because calling Treble retarded is an insult to retards everywhere.

I haven't heard them for a while, but when they first started playing it was just three girls scat-singing off-key with one acoustic guitar. I mean, shit.

Also, another dutch entry to the never-want-to-listen-to-again list: Anything by Kane. You thought Creed was bad? Well, Kane is what happens when dutch people want their own grunge heroes, and boy, are they terrible.

My humps would be very high on that list, but Behind Blue Eyes will top it for some time. I won't even go into the song its self, just that the radio station in Germany that I used to listen to played that song at least once every 45minutes, working a 12 hour shift in a car with bad reception and no CD player + that song = bad mojo.

A lot of people are posting awful songs... but I think the biggest tragedy of songs like Hotel California, Another Brick in the Wall pt. 2 and a lot of other Pink Floyd songs... is that it was merely overplaying that ruined them. Classic rock stations are some of the worst offenders of overplaying, because not only are those two songs seriously played every day and maybe more... it's been this way for like 30 years now. Shitty pop music is always awful and is getting worse all the time, but at least the songs are only around for a year or so and then are dropped forever. But "Comfortably Numb" will be around forever. When we're all elderly, we'll be sitting in someone's car someday... and they'll have a goddamn classic rock station on... and you'll hear those same Pink Floyd songs, once again.

At a Kohl's once I saw a rack with AC/DC and Pink Floyd flip-flops on it. A bit unrelated, but so telling.

Man, give me Kelly Clarkson over (post-Syd) Floyd any day.  Give me inconsequential fluff over genuinely excrutiating rubbish.  (Haha, sorry, they have their moments, but surely 'Dark Side of the Moon' sales suggest they're the most overrated band ever!)

Of truly horrible things I stand a reasonable chance of hearing again, I guess I have to pick something from the Chili [sic] Peppers.  Sadly it seems like 'Californication' is going to stick around...  I hope Smashing Pumpkins' 'Today' has died the death it deserves.

There's lots of unpleasant stuff I respect but don't want to hear again... definietly Diamanda Galas's 'Vena Cava' is in that camp.  Terrifying. :(

Well it could be said that she is really intelligent because of the irony in making a song called ironic which holds no real ironic content. But then it could also be said that she’s just dumb and doesn’t know what the word means.

I used to work for a place which had a particular radio station set, and would hear that particular song twice a day without fail, for six months. I could sing practically the whole thing off by heart, if i didn't shoot myself first...

Sure pop stations play each new hit once every DJ rotation, but at least they stop when the song is more than X weeks old.
