that alot of music really sucks. I am listening to pandora right now, and there's just so much shitty music that keeps playing. It's kinda pissing me off a little, but it'll clue in eventually. I hope. If you know of music that sucks, talk about it and feel free to diss other people, I'm not going to stop you.
-
I sense this heading down a deep dark path...
Or it could turn into a metal thread a couple pages in.
-
Why fucking wait.
Who's everyones favourite Les Legiones Noires band? I say Vlad Tepes, and I'll defend that to the death. Only one that comes anywhere near is Mütiilation.
-
This isn't music you like, it's music you hink is shitty, sure you can defend your favorite msuic, but that's what all the dissing and bitching will be about!
-
Dude, half of the Les Legiones Noires bands don't actually exist.
It's hard to get shittier than that.
Unless you're like, The Pussycat Dolls.
-
We're avoiding the bitching by turning this into a metal thread.
I like Tomahawk.
-
Damn you and your liking. This thread is going in the total opposite direction. Damn you all and your happiness and such.
-
There's no room for happiness in metal.
-
Oh man, I know the feeling. I have such a huge backlog of stuff that I still have to listen to and download and check out that I just am overwhelmed all the time. It's a bastard.
Also: I like Tomahawk too!
And I have no idea what the point of this thread is! That's why I love it.
-
You know, it's funny. Saying you dislike a song or an artist in this forum is pointless. It's not like you're going to convince someone to start disliking music they think they like.
But saying that you like a song or an artist has a point since you could be introducing someone to something new.
I love the fact that I can start reading random threads in the music forum and find 10 new artists that I like in about an hour.
-
Well, i've always been a stickler for doing pointless stuff in spite of knowing the exact reason why it's pointless if for nothing other than to further conversation.
And i hate the hell out of 'angels and airwaves' i wouldn't have ever even heard them if i didn't have bastards for friends.
-

Same here. I actually have a list of stuff to download and listen to, its a monster of a list (to think I have a bigger list that got deleted by mistake). And there are lots of stuff I downloaded some time ago and did'nt get around listening to.
Seriously a bastard.
Also, Tomahawk are an amazing band.
-
Damn you and your liking. This thread is going in the total opposite direction. Damn you all and your happiness and such.
And that's ok bedcause 90% of the other forums I frequent, this would have turned into a flame war.

Speaking of metal, I finally came around to not hating black metal recently. I've been mostly listening to bigger names like Emperor, Immortal and Satyricon, so if anybody has any less obvious suggestions, I'd like to hear them.
-
I'm listening to Upside Down, by Jack Johnson. I challenge you all to dislike this song!
And the video with the little monkey XD !!!!
I need to go see Curious George!
-
I don't know the exact track, but everything I've heard of Jack Johnson is just SO utterly boring and banal and deathly dull.
-

You're not supposed to come around to black metal by way of post-black metal. That's not how reality works.
-
I don't know the exact track, but everything I've heard of Jack Johnson is just SO utterly boring and banal and deathly dull.
Dude, that's the only Jack Johnson song I've heard.
Also, you're just wrong :p *dances to Upside Down*
-
This thread is an accident waiting to happen and I'm going to steer clear.
-
Speaking of metal, I finally came around to not hating black metal recently. I've been mostly listening to bigger names like Emperor, Immortal and Satyricon, so if anybody has any less obvious suggestions, I'd like to hear them.
Judas Iscariot, Xasthur, Vlad Tepes, Wyrd, Deathspell Omega, Aurora Borealis, 1349, Absu, Barad Dur, Nachtmystium, Watain, Azaghal, Horna, Lord Belial, Anaal Nathrakh, Musta Surma, Craft, Ildjarn, Nattefrost, Mütilation, Woods of Infinity, Abigail, Blut Aus Nord, Isengard, Woodtemple, Clandestine Blaze, Twilight, Averse Sefira, Warloghe, Leviathan, Nazgul, Velvet Cacoon, Abyssic Hate, Sort Vokter and Behexen is all some grim and frostbitten shit.
-
And i hate the hell out of 'angels and airwaves' i wouldn't have ever even heard them if i didn't have bastards for friends.
I don't hate them. I'm just disappointed with their music.
-
And that's ok bedcause 90% of the other forums I frequent, this would have turned into a flame war.
I think most of the regulars know and acknowledge the likes of most of the other regulars by now. Anyway, there's this old saying: "to claim superiority to someone is to admit inferiority to someone else." For ever guy out there who thinks that they're special because they saw Pavement tour, there's some other guy who fuckin' played with Malkmus on tour but never really liked what he was doing because it was "derivative".
-
I love the fact that I can start reading random threads in the music forum and find 10 new artists that I like in about an hour.
Well said. The reason why I started going to this forum was because of how incredibley insightful and amazing the music threads were. Well, that and the fact that the forum was filled with intelligent, somewhat indie 20-somethings who knew how to avoid using leet or abbreviating their words. Don't let my beloved go to shit. Talk about the good stuff.
-
The only friend of mine who likes Jack Johnson is in the military, he uses it to calm down because that guy is insanely energetic. He's doing paratrooper stuff and everything he can. My friend, not Jack. I find Jack generally boring, but not bad. Nice around a campfire, I think that's where he started his stuff.
I've actually got a long queue of music to download, but I like to wait at least a week before getting most things so I can forget what people said about them. If something catches my interest for a second, it goes on the list, and later is downloaded. A month from now I'll start listening to Tomahawk and wonder why I downloaded metal.
-
Wow, only 1 or two other people actually voiced their dislikes of bands. Thsi was a true test of this forum. Congratulations, we're all hippies.

Have a flower.

Thats the problem with Pandora. The criteria they use are ok but say I put in "The Smiths"- I'll just get a bunch of bands that are really shitty versions of the Smiths.
What amazes me is how much good music there is and how little of it gets listened to.
Also, everyone here still can't stand Creed, right? Just making sure.
-
Yeah, I'm pretty sure everyone hates Creed, that and Nickelback. A buddy of mine got free backstage passes to one of their shows and they made fun of them right t their faces. Of course they were subtle about it, but damn it was funny talking to him about that.
-
If someone slagged off an artist for the reasons I usually like music I'd be tempted to check that artist out.
Sorry, worst sentence ever.
There's lots of music I don't like, of course... Usually (what I think are?) obvious targets like the RHCP, particularly their disgustingly over-compressed stuff that just has zero dynamics and makes my ears tired almost instantly. Talk about adding insult to injury.
-
Lifehouse and Train are really bad. When B-A-D stands for Sucking Major Times.
This is Wayne Gretzky's post.
-
Hey Guys! remember we are no longer slagging off artists, but saying the forum is awesome, which it is.
I've gotten to know some great bands here: Coil, All Girl Summer Band and many others, I also got my Oink invite here, which opened the door to many many other bands.
One of my plans for the summer is to get a new hard drive 8only 10 GBs left) and try to get as may of the bands I've heard reccomended here.
-
Coil are wonderful.
-
I absolutely love Beirut which I didn't hear of from here, but you should check them out. Some punk teenager from Arizona who managed to combine Belle and Sebastian with eastern european gypsycore.
I think I just made up a word.
If there isn't gypsycore there should be.
-
Let's try to force people to argue about something that they're bound to argue about anyways. Yeah let's do that cause it's not the dumbest shit ever.
I really really cannot stand The White Stripes. Would people please stop trying to change this.
-
Everytime I hear their song about the goddamn doorbell I have to punch something. Preferably an orphan.
-
When I hear doorbell, I think the song by Nellie McKay where it's all ding dong there's the doorbell hello men in white...
-
But La Creme and Kai, they don't record on any modern equipment. It's all farm machinery and steam valves. Isn't it great?
-
that is pretty much dead on right there.
-
HEY NO HATING IN THIS THREAD.
This is the thread of love.
Love and gypsycore.
-
Please, Houdinimachine. They prefer the term "Romanycore"
-
Oh man, I know the feeling. I have such a huge backlog of stuff that I still have to listen to and download and check out that I just am overwhelmed all the time. It's a bastard.
I often feel like that too, but then I realize, "Wait, I'm supposed to enjoy music not worry about listening to such and such band on my 100-bands-to-listen-to-list...isn't it ok as long as I love what I listen too?....even if I don't know about (or never hear) that obscure Brooklyn-based trio??? Does that make me uncool???"
it's weird... :\
-
What if you expect that you'll enjoy said obscure brooklyn based trio?
-
But La Creme and Kai, they don't record on any modern equipment. It's all farm machinery and steam valves. Isn't it great?
Does that make them steampunk?
-

I'm seeing Zach & co. at Joe's Pub this evening. Their myspace page makes reference to Albania and Klezmer. I haven't been this into a debut album since Castaways & Cutouts.
-

Gogol Bordello kick ass.
-
Guys. Gypsycore. (http://www.devotchka.net/cms/)
-
i hate coheed and cambria. same as what la creme said about thw white strips (who i happen to like, sorry!), don't try to change my mind. i want to punch the singer for sucking so bad.
-
What if you expect that you'll enjoy said obscure brooklyn based trio?
If I hear about them and listen to them, great. What I'm saying is that sometimes it's overwhelming when there are so many new bands that you can't listen to them all (my main problem being that I can't afford to buy all the albums I would like) and that it shouldn't feel that you have to know about such and such band in order to be "in the know" as long as you love what you already know. Isn't that cool enough??? I dunno...just some thoughts.
-
Especially in NYC. Bloggers in this city can literally make an obscure solo artist the "next big thing" within about 48 hours of their first performance in a venue admitting about 50 people. Trying to keep up is literally impossible, and would be even if you didn't care about anything else.
That being said, the thrill of coming across a new band, both in the sense that they just started to make music, and in the sense that they are doing something interesting that you've never heard before, is undeniable. It gives venue-hopping a sense of adventure.
-

Bah! That's exactly why I hate reading snotty music reviews! And why I have my nerdy girly theory about how all music reviews should only be about albums the reviewer LIKES, because I think it's just awful to turn someone off of a band that they might have loved just because a pretentious critic said so.
And quite frankly, since I'm new here let's just be honest from the get-go, I've got no problem with shitty music. If it's fun to my ears, I'll listen to it. I won't PURCHASE it, but I'll listen to it. I have no shame in blasting some Don't Stop Believin' in my car with the windows down.
And PS, Beirut and Gogol Bordello are both incredible amd this thread has made gypsycore my vocab word of the day.
-

I cant believe you failed to mentioned ...And Oceans
the forum was filled with intelligent, somewhat indie 20-somethings.
Skib, I'm 17, and I'm sure most of the forum memmbers are around my age. And probably not indie at all.
But anyway, this is an awsome, insightful forum. Probably the best I'll ever write on.
Wait, what were we talking about again?
I think I might be too drunk to post right now.
-
Well, I was only mentioning BM bands, not post-BM bands (though I suppose you could argue about Blut Aus Nord). True, ...And Oceans are only properly post-BM on A.M.G.O.D., but as I wasn't mentioning albums...
-

Well theres bad like Journey-bad and then there is Panic! At The Disco-bad. They are two very different animals. Journey might make you feel guilty but its a whole lot of fun. Then there is the music thats downright painful to listen to.
Also: What are people's ages? I'm 19.
-
I just solve that whole problem by defining Journey as "Awesome"
It really does make it easier to cuss out people who listen to truely terrible music.
Also: 21 here
-
24 and I sing along to Jefferson Airplane songs.
-
17, and I love ABBA.
-
I'm 19 for another week, and the only radio station I listen to is the classic rock station which has a constant rotation of Journey, Foreigner, CCR, and Skynyrd. Except when I listen to NPR. Mmmm... classical music and hypnotic talk programs....
-
In keeping with the topic, kind of, I just have this to say:
90% of music is crap.
This is because 90% of everything is crap.
OK, maybe only 85% of jazz is crap and 92% of hip hop is crap and 98% of country is crap, but it all averages out to about 90% crap.
It has always been this way. It just seems like there are more crap bands now than in the past because everyone has forgotten the crap bands of the past.
A corollary -- 99.999999999% of internet posts are crap.
-

I guess youre right, I was just thinking of Ocean's The Symmetry Of I - The Circle Of O album. Which is pretty much BM.
-
Is it wrong that each time I see "BM bands" or "Post-BM bands" all I can think is "Bowel movement??" (Yes I know what it actually stands for.)
Age: 22
-
24 and I sing along to Jefferson Airplane songs.
Hey, Airplane is cool. Now if you had mentioned Starship...
-
Is it wrong that each time I see "BM bands" or "Post-BM bands" all I can think is "Bowel movement??"
well, there already is a metal genre dedicated to bowel movements.
-
I'm naive enough to believe you. Really!?
-
i hate Tom Waits.
the way people described him and from what i heard; i thought i would be all over it. but i listened to some of his stuff and it was ridiculously stupid.
i have a raspy voice too, tom! but i dont use it as the ONLY selling point for my music. jackass
-
I'm naive enough to believe you. Really!?
Pretty much.
-
I'm listening to Upside Down, by Jack Johnson. I challenge you all to dislike this song!
And the video with the little monkey XD !!!!
I need to go see Curious George!
You're kidding, right?
Jack Johnson is boring and unoriginal. Every song of his sounds the same to me...
-

I would disagree but then again I am blissfully ignorant of most 'bad' genres like german schlager, nash trash and so on.
Instead I will correct your figure, all music is crap depending on who you ask. So essentially 100% of all music is crap because there always someone somewhere who hates the music you love to death.
Case in point scandinavian war machine's opinion of Tom Waits.
