*tears of joy*
-
holy shit i could not be happier. that is awesome
-
I started a thread about this when it was just a (quickly quashed) rumour.
Imagine my happiness now that it's a concrete fact :D

[Zoidberg] WOOOOP WOOPWOOPWOOP WOOP WOOOOOP WOOP [/Zoidberg]
-
*Gasp*
-
i can't helo but feel dubious that these new episodes won't live up to the rest of the series though :(
-
Family Guy Mk. II, anyone?
-
Can't you guys just recognize a good thing when it happens?
Maybe this is a sign that TV producers are wising up.
-
. . .
. . .
. . .
Dude, you're talking about T.V. producers.
-
Indeed, it's about the same as sayin' your shit doesn't have stank. They should of just brought Futurama back instead of Family Guy in the first place.
-
Futurama is good, but not new episode good. Hopefully it will knock the Oblongs out of existence though. God I hate that show.
-
CLONE HIGH. BRING IT BACK.
-
I concur, clone high. Also, daria. Where did all these good shows go?
-
I predict that every scene will feature Bender being a complete asshole, Professor Farnsworth being brainless, Zoidbeg being Zoidberg, Fry asking out Leela and saying 'Woohoo!' a lot and Leela rejecting Fry and being the voice of reason.
Granted, this was the old series, but they're gonna stretch the same ideas and concepts as far as they'll go and continue milking money from it when it has no credibility left.
yeah, i hope so too

And your problem with this is...?
-
The characters arent particularily dynamic or interesting. Most of them are one trick ponies. You can have the same characters acting out different scenarios the same way over and over but sool you will realize theres not much there anymore. No twists, no turns, no unexpected humor. You know what the jokes are before they happen so you dont laugh at them
-
I think I'll take a 'wait and see' approach to this one. I loved Futurama before, so here's hoping it'll be just as funny.
-
Futurama was at its best when its characters surpassed their stock roles and showed deeper characterization. Hopefully, the ressurected show won't forget that; however, Family Guy was just as funny when it wasn't over-the-top offensive and its creators pretty much ignored that.

Hey... I'm studying to be one. :(
-
What I think the Simpsons is suffering from now is the fact that the characters have become shallow. All they are are vessels for unwitty one-liners. They a lot of times break character just to get across the joke. It fails. All the time.
I hope Futurama won't end up like this. As long as the characters stay individuals and act like themselves, I think the show should be fine.
-
The main problem with Family Guy is it's absolute desperation to be funny..there is some very funny stuff on there at times..but most jokes are either overused running-jokes or "parodies" that really aren't funny at all.
I actually think Futurama had a lot of character development for a comedy
series. Sure,a few of the supporting characters get a little old "LOL ZOIDBERG IS POOR HERMES IS A DICK LOL",but think about it..it does a
hell of a lot better of a job than most "comedy" shows.
-
That's now THREE shows by Fox that have been resurrected. This gives a Firefly (and Futurama) fan more hope.
-
I dunno if Firefly could be brought back after Serenity. They kind of ended a load of storylines pretty finally, and missed out a load of stuff which probably should have gone before them and would have, if they had had a few more series to tell the story over but can't really be told now what with people dying and whatnot. (I'm trying not to spoil things for anyone who hasn't seen Firefly or Serenity yet.)
To me, Serenity is to Firefly what the Peacekeeper Wars were to Farscape, a way to finish things off as best as they could, even if it wasn't how they would have liked it to be done.

I don't think that they would resurrect the series, given that most of the actors have moved on to different series or guest-starring roles. But, perhaps Universal will look into a mini-series or a television movie or two on the Sci-Fi channel. I'll admit that it's wishful thinking.
-
I'm happy about having some more combinatory Futurama.
Like Fry says, "The secret to a successfull Tv show, is that at the end of the episode, everything is back to normal".

After word from two voice actors had spread during the last two days, the news agency Reuters is now reporting that "Comedy Central has resurrected the former Fox animated series from "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening and David X. Cohen. At least 13 new episodes will be produced."
They go on to quote David Bernath, senior vice president for programming at the network.
"We are thrilled that Matt Groening and 20th Century Fox Television have decided to produce new episodes of 'Futurama' and that Comedy Central will be the first to air them."
"There is a deep and passionate fan base for this intelligent and very funny show that matches perfectly with our audience, and it is great that we can offer them not just the existing library but something they've never seen as well."
A press release from Comedy Central dated June 22nd supposedly verifies this information but is not available to the public on their media website yet.
Update: It seems that some of these articles got some things confused. The 4 DVD movies which we reported about a few days ago (see below) will eventually be shown as 4 episodes each on Comedy Central. This makes the number of episodes 16, not 13. But as I understand it, there is no other new content other than those movies.
Even though there is little information about the four Futurama DVD movies, the project remains on track (i.e., as it stands, they are going to be produced). To give you an idea of the timeline, the first of the movies is tentatively planned to be released around Xmas 2007. We'll let you know once we get more information from our sources.
