I am going down to Eugene, Oregon to see Dragonforce this friday and I am pretty stoked. Is anyone else going to this show or one of their other tour dates?
Or has anyone already seen Dragonforce?
Some of my friends saw them in California a few months back and said it was an amazing show even though they had to watch through a fence because they got kicked out for drinking. And they ended up hanging out with the band and drinking with them later anyway.
-
wait a minute... they got kicked out of a metal show for drinking? wtf?
-
yeah. lame huh? but i guess it was worth it in the end cause they ended up hanging out with the band later BECAUSE they had gotten kicked out (not sure how exactly, i wasnt there).
-
Haha, metal shows. My friends are stoked as hell to see them. (on the 10th) I'm a fan of them in irony only. Kind of like Whitesnake, but i like Whitesnake better.)
-
Oh you poor misguided indie kids and your irony.
While I realize they are silly, I love Dragonforce, Blind Guardian, Rhapsody, Kamelot, etc. with complete sincerity. And I only wish I could see shows during the summer, but alas, I'm stuck in the middle of Kansas.
-
GO KANSAS YEAH
-
I enjoy Kamelot without a trace of irony. Good vocals, good instrumentalists, what is there to be ashamed about?
As for Dragonforce, they would be better if every song didn't sound exactly the same.
Rhapsody I've never liked, and Blind Guardian I am only so-so on, although Demons and Wizards (which has Blind Guardian's vocalist) is great.

yes, someone who feels the same way i do. i dont know what this whole irony thing is; if i like music, i like it; if not, then i dont. i dont see how it can get any more complicated than that.
-
I'm still trying to figure out how I can see this show.
-
Saw them in January and Im going to see them again in December. :)
They are mega-awesome.
-
GO KANSAS YEAH
CARRY ON NOW WAYWARD SON
Anyways, their tunes make me giggle, but I can admit they're talented folks.
-
Kansas is further proof that no band named after a (real) place can ever be any good.
-
the songs don't make me giggle, they make me laugh uncontrolably.
just because you can play that fast, does not mean you should.
it doesn't sound good, it sounds like a joke.
-
It's like trying to stop a wheelchair-bound pursesnatcher with a bazooka that fires rockets made of velociraptors that vomit plutonium. Complete overkill, and damn cool for it. (but Whitesnake still OWNS dragonforce.)

Hey, Boston's self-titled is great.
-
I'm just poking fun, but seriously, when you consider: Kansas, Texas, Europe, Asia, America, Chicago, Japan, Phoenix, and Boston (who depending on the day are awful or great to me), well, the evidence is overwhelming.

that is the best way i have ever heard Dragonforce described. in a completely sincere, non-ironic way. thats awesome.
and whitesnake does NOT own Dragonforce; whitesnake is pretty sick on the right occasion....but they are incapable of ownage of anyone. except maybe Nelson. in fact, i think whitesnake took a shit and the fungus that grew on it became Nelson.
edit: sig'd for badassery

DragonForce are playing here in St. Louis in a couple weeks, but I won't be able to see them (not enough cash). Depression is mine. :(
-
i'm back. actually i've been back for a week but todays my first day back at work, so i here i am. anyway, the show was absolutely amazing and i recommend seeing dragonforce live to anyone who hasnt seen them. we hung out and drank booze with Sam and Vadim before and after the show; it was sick.
and for your viewing pleasure heres a picture of the guitar player Sam filming us shotgun some beer before the show.

p.s. i am the one on the far right wearing all white.
-
the point of dragonforce is the silly and they are turly great for it and the solo's are awesome and there videos are great all two of them
-
Got my tickets for when they come to my home town in December. Zomgz so excited.
-
Seriously? People listen to Dragonforce? I thought people had sense.
-
No one says their artistically impressive.
They're just fun.
It's like bubblegum-metal.
-
I would posit that the guitar talent is impressive
-
Dragonforce is Mastodon for idiots and 7th graders.
-
Hey, I'm no 7th grader!
-
Dragonforce is what you listen to after you realize how shitty you are on the guitar, and want to feel even worse about yourself. For me, anyways.
But really, sometimes you have to listen to competely uncreative and repetitive music to really appreciate the good stuff.
-
dragonforce is really good pop music
almost as good as my first love, justin timberlake.
jt's my boy, dawg!
-
Dragonforce is what Homer aspired to be. Poor guy couldn't afford the amp stacks though.

Artistically or technically?
Technically, yeah.
But artistically? Nope.

Phoenix shouldn't count. Since it's a phoenix.
-
Wow, really old thread...
Artistically, I wouldn't say they are amazing, but they are at least capable. Not as much can be said for many bands
people call artistic geniuses.
Dragonforce is Mastodon for idiots and 7th graders.
Huh? I'm not quite seeing the link between an American prog sludge band and an English power metal band. Aside from the fact
they both inhabit the same huge genre of metal, I don't see how any comparison is useful.
P.S. Hopefully, you were joking and I look like a fool now for taking it seriously.
Unless, of course, you were just saying they are both currently trendy "heavy" bands for two very different demographics, in
which case you are very correct.

Dragonforce are absolutely hilarious in a good way. They aren't a metal band that takes themselves seriously and this is evident if you : a.) listen to their music b.) witness their live performance which are absolutely entertaining if not completely ridiculous in a Monty Python meets power metal meets Spinal Tap kind of way! haha
When I saw them live they had fake tattoo sleeves on their arms and beer holder things on their mic stands. Oh, and did I mention they have trampolines on stage that the guitarists jump on while soloing at 300 notes per second?
I'm somewhat torn when it comes to this band because while they are fun and entertaining for someone who isn't really familiar or that are basically new to the genre of power/classic heavy metal (which consists of much of their fan base...there were skads of 15 year olds at the show I went to...), they sort of give power metal a bad name to those who aren't familiar with the genre who just write the entire genre off as more "metal nonsense". There are amazing bands within the power metal genre, and I'm happy to see that someone mentioned Kamelot because IMO they are probably one of the best. :)
Other's of note are (and keep in mind that these aren't necessarily purely power metal bands but similiar in sound):
- Evergrey
- Savatage
- Stratovarius (except the last couple of horrible records)
- Symphony X
- Blind Guardian
- At Vance
- Ayreon
- Masterplan
- Helloween
- Threshold
etc. :)

No way! America ruled! :D
-
I didn't even think Herman/Sam was that good, technically, either. But that's just me. I've gotten really tired of cheesy power metal as of late. They're fun and all, but I'm just tired of all these bands with keyboards and Christopher Lee voice recordings and general instrumental wankery. I know a guy in Utah, the most metal show they get out there is apparently Blind Guardian. He saw As I Lay Dying in an Express store trying to buy jeans :P.

Led Zeppelin invented power metal. Just listen to "Immigrant Song" or "Achilles' Last Stand".

:-)
Demon's and Wizards do a rather shitty cover of "Immigrant Song" on their last album "Touched by the Crimson King"
I think the biggest influence on Power Metal was stuff like Queen, Rainbow and Dio era Black Sabbath.
IMO Led Zep were more of an influence on Speed Metal bands like Accept (who are fucking awesome by the way).

Lol, i'm listening to Achilles' right now.
Dragonforce are fun.
I only ever pretend to be pretenscious about music, but when honest, its positive, powerfull, uplifting fun.
Whatever they are, they are, powerful.
