I've been on a recent Grindcore/tech hardcore/metalcore binge, i have bands like Between the Buried and Me, The Locust, Some Girls (the grindcore supergroup, not the chick rock band >.>), The Dillinger Escape Plan, and a few other random songs.
Can any of you refer me to some bands that have either the same style or a similar sound to those?
-
You are not listening to grindcore sir.
Please pick up Prowler In The Yard by Pig Destroyer and Original Sound Version by Discordance Axis as soon as possible to remedy this situation.
-
I'd recommend Napalm Death's Scum/From Enslavement to Obliteration, Carcass' Symphonies of Sickness and Terrorizer's World Downfall for the classics.
For some modern Scandinavian mayhem the list would be Nasum's Human 2.0 (or even Grind Finale) and Rotten Sound's Still Psycho/Murderworks. And for those awesome "What the Fuck?" moments: Cause For Effect (http://www.kolumbus.fi/ari.tenhola/), who are a fusion grindcore duo from Finland, where everything leads to suicide.
-
the stuff you've got listed there is like. quazi-grind/math core.
still good music, but not strictly grind.
check out the gerogeregegege:
yellow trash bazooka and,
tokyo anal dynomite.
-
my friend and i have a joke that no one really likes the locust. it's pretty much true.
also: i'd be really happy if the words "grindcore" "noisecore" and "math-rock" didn't exist.
-
Great recommendations, jariku.
I'd add Rotten Sound to that list.
Also, Skibas, Noisecore is ace.
-
Naked City - Torture Garden.
-
Thanks for all the bands and positive replies, except you Skibas!
-
The only full grindcore album I have listened to is Discordance Axis's "The Inalienable Dreamless", which I must say completely re-defined what I thought about the genre.
-
I'd add Rotten Sound to that list.
Whuh? I already had it on the list, right after Nasum.
Also, I like The Locust (and Eddie Edwards (http://shitsuck.loukku.org/shit-8.html)).

what are you thinking?
the napalm death, carcass, terrorizer, discordance axis and pig destroyer albums mentioned are all pretty good, though.
and the ggggg is great but wildly inappropriate.

SKITSYSTEM SKITSYSTEM SKITSYSTEM
-
skitsystem is pretty bad. and nasum.
-
Also, Circle of Dead Children, Last Days of Humanity, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Contrastic, Libido Airbag, Mincing Fury and Guttural Clamour of Queer Decay, Dying Fetus, Regurgitate, Prosthetic Cunt and Cephalic Carnage are all to a lesser or greater extent pretty good, weighted towards the greater.
-
Oh yeah, if you want something more in the vein of The Locust / Dillinger Escape Plan, then check out Today Is The Day.
http://www.todayistheday.org/sound_vision.htm
They're not grindcore, though.
-
Dang, I can't believe I forgot the grindcore pioneer from Finland, Xysma. Their recent Yeah! / First & Magical compilation 2CD should be relatively easy to track down.
-
Believe it or not I actually signed up just to reply to this topic :/
I'm not a big Grindcore fan but the best band I've heard by far is Terror
It's a studio project from the guys in At The Gates with Jon Nödtveit from Dissection doing vocals for it. They only ever recorded one 3 song demo but I think its a damn awesome. Deffinately not what you'd expect from a combination of the two bands.
Adrian Erlandsson has the demo up for download on he's site give it a listen I think its awesome. Might be a bit too melodic, sounds kind of like Carcass IMO.
http://homepage.mac.com/soulrot/terror.html
Godflesh's Streetcleaner is also a very good album. Maybe more industrial then grind but well worth checking out.
-
Judging from the list of bands in your post, you would most likely enjoy The Red Chord. Technical, grind-ish and much more varied than most bands I've heard that fit that description.

ghengis tron

Job For A Cowboy and The Sawtooth Grin are very well-liked by my grindcore-enthusiast friends.
-
Job For a Cowboy and Sawtooth Grin are both a bit flavour-of-the-month to my mind.
-
Personally I don't know. Grindcore isn't really my thing. My brother (who likes grind) and a few friends (who like grind) enjoy them.
-
genghis tron
Seconded
Please pick up Prowler In The Yard by Pig Destroyer and Original Sound Version by Discordance Axis as soon as possible to remedy this situation.
Seconded again
And the Locust, as has been pointed out, is a love/hate thing. I like 'em though.
Edit: And maybe some Zorn stuff: Moonchild (new), Painkiller (old), some Naked City (old). Good grind.

he never said "i'm looking for some grindcore that i can listen to with my wife and kids on the way to church" he just said he was looking for some grindcore.
-
I'm not sure Carcass technically qualifies as grind, nor something you'd listen to with your wife and kids.
-
Pig Destroyer
YES.
-
my point is that ggggg have nothing to do with grindcore.
and the first two carcass albums are staples of the genre. or, i mean, you could call them goregrind, but those kind of arguments are pretty stupid. after that their albums get progressively worse and different.
-
First of all, while the bands you initially listed are awesome (and for the record: I actually enjoy listening to The Locust), none of them are grindcore. I would classify The Locust as power violence or something. If you want something in that vein, check out Daughters (www.wearedaughters.com).
I completely second most of the bands Khar mentioned and I will add some German grind bands, just because they're awesome: Japanische Kampfhörspiele, Poostew.
And I bet you like power violence, so let me add: Spazz, Yacopsae.
Technically, the more brutal metalcore would also be something you might like, think Mörser, Systral, AcMe, Shikari (Bremen school, represent!).
Note: This is not the usual metalcore you know and thus not gay.
-
Carcass simply got better with time, in almost linear fashion, before being cut short ... But thats coming from one who likes metal, not grindcore :D.
-
I think Carcass's best is Necrotism. Heartwork is good but just not the same, Swansong is pretty disapointing though.
-
What the fuck are Agoraphobic Nosebleed?
I mean seriosuly.
-
Power Violence has got to be the lamest genre name I have ever encountered. Second place goes to grindcore (first place for lamest music)
I saw Walls of Jericho live and man... my girlfriend at the time liked that kind of music so I had to grin and bear it.
-
skitsystem is pretty bad. and nasum.
wait, bad as in good, or bad as in "ew don't listen to them"?
*ad nauseam
-
I thought Skitsystem were D-beat? They don't sound that grindcore to me. Arguing genres is stupid though. I dig them.
-
Oh yeah, if you want something more in the vein of The Locust / Dillinger Escape Plan, then check out Today Is The Day.

They're not grindcore, though.
Today is the Day are awesome, especially the first 3 albums/ early 90s stuff.
-
Terrorizer
Hewhocorrupts
Tower of Rome
Agoraphobic Nosebleed (like somebody mentioned but they deserve another "mention")
Ukrudt
Sergentslaughter
25 Dollar Massacre
Nasum (great, great band)
Death for the Welldressed
But i'm guessing this is not what you want if you have been listening to DEP and BTBAM. So here's a few more accessable bands.
Arsonists Get All The Girls
Heavy Heavy Low Low
Mass Movement of the Moth
Old Fashion Knife Fight
Happy grinding.

If you're liking the tech then check out Narcosis and Executive Distraction Tasks. Very fast, very good. And in the vein of The Locust get yourself some Trencher. Trencher are amazing. Not technically grind but who cares, it's fast, harsh and they have songs called things like 'Will To Shit' so it fits in alright.
Also, everyone should listen to Acme. 'To Reduce The Choir To One Soloist' is one of the most overlooked and best metalcore albums of all time, along with Stalingrad's self-titled CD and Stand's 'True Romance' mini-album. Morser, AN, DA, TITD, Nasum, Spazz, Yacopsae and Pig Destroyer are all essential too, regardless of genre. They're fully mint, that's all anyone needs to know.
