Title: Hey, MUSIC RECOMMENDATION REQUIRED
Post by: mookers on 29 Jun 2006, 00:34
I used to ask for these all the time two years ago and you guys always introduced me to the most amazing stuff. You're probably a different group now but i'll take the gamble.

Here's what i need:
Something synthesized and simple, like video-gamey, that communicates incredible darkness, hatred, and begrudge..ed..ness. Like somebody is gonna kick another somebody's ass while on a load of recreational drugs. And they are both video game characters. It's for a project of mine.

There needs to be a bit of a build-up for transition, like a lone drum beat or a bit of lonely synthesizer before it really kicks in, numsayin?

The closest thing to what i'm looking for that i could find is "head like a hole" by da nails taht are nine inch.

The other songs that are being used for the same project are Frank Sinatra by Cake, Our Game (Is Over) by Figurine, and probably Popcorn by Hot Butter. Any ideas?

A lot of Bjork's Homogenic would get you what you need.

Also, try "Silent Shout" by The Knife.

I'm sorry but all I can think of is the Shadowgate soundtrack, and those are all NES midis.

i cannot think of much. here's a band i have only heard of thanks to awesome mixtapes from shaft! - venetian squares. on their myspace (http://www.myspace.com/venetiansnares) you can listen to "pwntendo"...which i think is kinda what you are looking for? sort of?

edit: dang 100 posts! i feel special. not really.

covenant - monochrome
vnv nation - fearless (original version)
unter null - sick fuck (c-drone defect remix)
icon of coil - existence in progress
edge of dawn - the flight (lux)
pride and fall - retrospect
combichrist - enjoy the abuse
suicide commando - hellraiser

+ comedy "horse the band - bunnies" option

also if you're gonna go the venetian snares route, get "befriend a childkiller" - almost certainly one of their (his) darkest tunes

Sounds almost like you're looking for some trip-hop.

Check out Bjork, as mentioned, but also give Tricky, Massive Attack, and Portishead a listen.  Especially Massive Attack.

thank you for all of the suggestions. "Wraith" from the shadowgate soundtrack could work.

to make it more specific, MWhaling is comin' closest to what i'm lookin' for. it doesn't need to be absolutely the most hateful song you can find.. and i got a thing for catchy pop hooks.

thanks guys for comin' through even after all these years. man i love dis here forum.

Hahaha I love the specificness of the music requests here! Most other forums it's like "uhhh I want to listen to more ska" or something. Even more, I love it that people can answer the request hahaha.

Good luck on your quest. I might have to formulate some obscure specific music request myself.
