Everything is all right. Outta sight.

Stevie Wonder is pretty much awesome.
I wish those days had never ever gone.
(Not that I was alive or anything.)
-
"Superstition" is the best song ever.
-
"Talking Book" is one of the greatest records of all time.
-
Holy crap, Mr. Wonder is one awesome dude.
To, you know, say the least.

I was scrolling down the page quickly and I misread the title as "Let's listen to Steve Albini" and I was all happy. Then I entered the thread.

Stevie Wonder > Shellac

I didn't think it was possible to joke about Stevie Wonder (minus that he's, well, a rather large man now). Then I entered the Questionable Content Music Forum.
-
Who's making fun of him? He rocks!
Sir Duke is my personal favorite right now.

Darling, we will make fun of everyone with DNA in this forum.
(Even people without DNA! Like L. Ron Hubbard! I am convinced that he is an alien being.)

I always thought that Tyra Banks was an alien being. Her eyes are way too far apart for her to be completely human.

No seriouslt who is this guy he sounds fucking gay
-
Gay?

-
Gay as in lame. I'm in the process of reclaiming the word for the assholes of this world.

I wonder what he thought of that album cover.
LOLOLOLOLOLOL

i'm puzzled by how you can be bisexual and use the word 'gay' to mean 'lame'.
or label people a 'faggot'.
isn't it a bit of a paradox?
Not at all. It is entirely possible to be bi, or gay, and to dislike raging faggotry. Plus, that's the context I've been using that word in since I was about 9, and whether I know better or not it's still one I use on occasion. Especially whilst drunk.
-
Using the word gay as a derogatory term is gay.
(I'm sorry I couldn't resist.)
-
khar... weak boarding.
stevie wonder is the man. seriously. i'm in love with his music.
and if he is gay, i hope he manages to have babies with joe cocker.

:-( Poor you, lonesome homophobe.
I do frown upon your kind.
(P.S. Making fun of homosexuality and physical disabilities in one! You're on a roll, asshole!)
P.P.S. Tyra is an alien. Right?
-
P.P.S. Tyra is an alien. Right?
She has to be. She's probably one of those alien-reptile things from 'V'.

I think you just lost at the Internet.
-
Yeah having sexual relations with two guys is totally fucking homophobic right?
-
Tommy, I am in a relationship. Stop coming on to me in that way!

If one is going to "reclaim" the term gay, wouldn't one assign it the original definition of "light-hearted and cheerful"?
In any case, the practice of taking terms used to describe minority groups and twisting them into insults is surely left behind once a person matures. When I was back in primary school, one of the more common playground insults was to call someone else a "spastic" (even though we hardly knew what the word meant) which, upon reflection, was a pretty awful thing to do. Nowadays, if a mature-aged person were to use that term as an insult, I'd see a big neon sign on their head flashing the word "immature" (or worse) and treat them as such.
Now, if someone happen uses the word "gay" in a derogatory sense once or twice on a message board, then I don't think there's too much of an issue. However, if someone is trying to "reclaim the word for the assholes of the world"... then see above. No offense intended here, but I thought it was worth posting my stance on the subject.
BACK ON TOPIC
Unfortunately I haven't heard much of Stevie Wonder's music, though what little I have heard was great, in my opinion. Definitely an artist whose works I need to listen to more.
-
You honestly think I might be fucking serious?
-
Honestly? I would have said no, you weren't being serious but for one of those recent drunken posts, which cast a tiny amount of doubt in my mind. Unfortunately, some of the subtle nuiances of everyday conversation (which might indicate whether a person was serious or joking) are lost to strangers communicating over a message board. Note that if you weren't being serious then, of course, the previous post doesn't apply to you at all.
Note also that I really meant no offense, just to put forward my views regarding the issue that was brought up.
