Title: music to get yo insomnia on to
Post by: mookers on 15 Jul 2006, 02:27
i was just laying in bed for a long while, staring out my window as the color of the sky went from black to this lovely teal-grey. i love grey sky days.

anyway, Us Ones in Between by Sunset Rubdown was playing on my iTunes, and i didn't realize until i started typing here that is is actually about the sun rising and setting. damn, maybe that's why it was such an effective insomnia song.

oh god the lyrics are so appropriate for that moment. i didn't even notice. i just felt like the melody was a perfect soundtrack.

haha and i left that perfect moment to make a topic about it.

oh well anyway, what music do you guys think is best experienced while you strain in vain to lose consciousness?

my vote: Us Ones in Between by Sunset Rubdown.

discuss this and others.

Sleeping and not sleeping are different.

I usually listen to Sarah Records bands (the Field Mice, Brighter, the Orchids, .etc) when I have insomnia.  I don't really know why.

And of course, theres "Rebillion (lies)" by The Arcade Fire.

The fourth disk of Pan Sonic's "Kesto". It's a mesmerizing hour-long drone that's only listenable when drunk or exhausted.

That reminds me of a Coil split disc I have from Sub Rosa Records.  45 minutes of telephone bleeping and various almost winds like noises...and it's amazing.  I don't know how that happened.

I normally use Cafe Del Mar to go to sleep, but only a few selected tracks *really* do it for me...Northern Lights and 100 Thousand Stars and Ill Street Blues and Any Other Name especially...

Also, George Winston...

Dear god...I'm a classical nerd...

i vote for marcy playground's first cd. either that or the album "the night" by morphine.
i actually have insomnia so i spend alot of time trying to fall asleep; i've tried listening to every cd in my collection at least twice and those two are my favorites.

Pinback is great for anything sleep or sleep-inducement related.  The songs all sound to me like half-remembered fragments of a vague dream.

Anything that is very long and repetitive will do it for me.  "Dopesmoker" by Sleep and anything by OM come to mind.  Acid Mothers Temple sometimes gets the job done, depending on the track.  Basically, if I'm not sleeping when I should be, it means I don't have the energy to pay attention to music, so I put on the music that I need to either be totally removed from or completely immersed in.

anything by sleeparchive. In fact most really minimal techno is good. ø would be good for example. Also 'Insomnia' by faithless, because if I don't suggest it someone else will, and they'll do it with less sincerity.

I'll usually listen to any one of Regina Spektor's 'Somedays', Damien Rice's 'Sweet Avenue', or Stars' 'Tonight' on repeat, over and over. Those songs have gotten a little disproportionate on my audioscrobbler page.

Complete exhaustion, watchng new day, gotcha. Still Minimal Techno, but more importantly the Burial album. It is basically designed to be listened to at the moment streetlights go off because it's getting light, but the city is still not entirely commited to being a new day. Doesn't work quite as well in a rural setting, but it's still one of the most beautiful albums of the year and stuff so yeah umkay.
