I am surprised there aren't more topics about this on the board (hi welcome to my first post BTW)
So The Who are going on a world tour again...
HALF THE BAND IS DEAD!
THE OTHER HALF EAT MUSHY PEAS FOR SUPPER!
come on this is not the band the wrote "I wanna die before i get old" into one of thier songs. You are Old now, some of you are not dead. Give it up. please
Now i want this to be perfectly clear, I Love The Who. I stole my parents Records (yes actual records) and have then stored away so that they can be framed or something eventually. I have all their music (hell i BOUGHT it) but when i saw this i almost cried. I really really want them to just be thier old selves.
I dont want to see Townshend break his hip smashing his guitar...
-
Some friends of mine went to see them play a few weeks ago. Apparently they're still pretty good. Besides, Townshend and Daltrey are the only two who actually matter.
-
oh i didnt mean for it to sound like i want GOING...

Dude. Keith Moon.
-
John Entwistle was a GOD among ordinary bassplayers. Funny thing about the who- I have enormous respect for each of the members as musicians, but I hate most of their music.
-

Quoted for truth.
-
Dude. Julian Beighton.

Dude. Keith Moon.
nobody explodes drums like Keith Moon. and since he died before i was even born...yeah. though Townsend is a major force behind the who, still...
it's kind of like queen. the lead singer is dead, yet they keep touring, when they should really stop. queen is not queen without Freddie Mercury...

THe new album is finally coming out in september, and what I've heard doesn't sound too bad. But I must admit that my first thought was:
"The WHo has a new album coming out? What are they going to call it: 'Who's Left'?!"

I saw a quip on a message board shortly after Entwhistle died --
"The Who have lost their drummer and bassist. The Beatles only have a drummer and bassist. It's time for America to meet the Whotles."
-
my...GOD man i think your on to something.
The Whotels would be bigger than Jesus, hell they might be bigger that The Beatels
-
I'd go to see them.

They've already got Ringo Starr's kid on drums. Why don't they just get Ringo Starr?
Anyway, last time they came here i'm like 'oh they're old and washed up' and then all the reviews said they were AMAZING. Almost every time I've seen an old artist - Bowie, Elvis Costello, Dylan- i've loved it and almost every time i've missed one I regretted it.
So i'm giving them a shot when they come back
Hell, i saw the Misfits and even with one original member the punks looked like they were having fun
Is it worth seeing the Buzzcocks when they come here?
-
Yes.
Also: Every member of the Who is important.

I make that joke fairly regularly myself, though it was short of a punchline. I think 'The Whotles' might just be it.
YOINK!
-

I've seen the Buzzcocks a couple of times, they put on a good show, I'd recommend it.
-
i love the who. dead or not.
also, the buzzcocks. yes.
it's like, do you want some delicious ice cream?
and you're all like, NOT IF I CAN'T HAVE THE HOT FUDGE ON TOP!
plz.
-
That was actually a really good analogy. It's still the effin' Who, people.
-
Buzzcocks end their Warped dates like two shows before the one I'm going to. I'm so pissed at that fact.
-
my opportunity to see the buzzcocks came and went a few days ago...im really bummed.
and also; keith moon (dead as he may be) will dominate anyone. just try him.
-
So, this Whotles idea, who things that's gonna be a collaboration that will never ever live up to the humongous expectations that will get? *raises hand*
-

Fuck no. It won't happen. And if it did, it would suck.
-
yeah the hype for the Whotles would be far above what and human being could do.
I woudl go see it though, it just wouldnt live up to the hype
-
Although they've lost some of their lustre, the Who still rock. If I can, I'm going to see them with my dad. Maybe get another t-shirt to complement the one he got in 1980, on their "very last world tour."
-
Ahhhh what boredom, five minutes and google image search can do to a man, i give you
THE WHOTLES!

Duudes I am going to see them in Calgary. Yay!

I dunno... Starr family dinners must SUCK sometimes
"Hey dad, whatcha been up to?"
"I released a solo album nobody cared about and read fan letters from 30 years ago! Then I did some guest voices on a show nobody watches. What about you, Zak?"
"I drummed for the Who. It was cool. Were you ever cool, dad?"
"Before you were born, son. Before you were born"
-
I'm totally going to go see the Who when they come to town. I effing love the Who, even if they are all old and still touring when they should just stop before someone breaks a hip.
-
Umm guys. Keith moon is still alive. (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=05102006)
-
That's a half-existence at best.
-
sorry Who nerd coming through, Pete wont smash his guitar any more, he lost the feeling for it a while back, he wont jump either. Roger will twirl the mic around like he did. i think its unfair to compare and/or put together the Beatles and the Who when considering their playing styles. The beatles, you think of the yellow submarine, i want to hold you hand, i am the Walrus. think of the who and you get an image of Pete Townsend smashing a guitar through an amp, Keith Moon setting off fire works INSIDE HIS DRUM KIT, Roger spinning the mic around damaging it and probably putting his foot through an amp or two, and John the Ox just playing the song until the rest of the band walks off stage. but would i pay to see the Beatles teamed up with the Who?in a godamn heart beat, i would punch through a crowd to see them play. For their new album, i dont know what to expect. even if its a flop ill love it. but this is just one who fan giving their bit

WFT again. But Im glad they are touring again I know some people who saw them in the two gigs they did in Leeds recently and said they rocked. If they are just doing it for the love of music it should be a good new album but if they are just doing it for money it will probably suck.

Do people really think of I Want to Hold Your Hand and Yellow Submarine wen they think about The Beatles?
-
I think of Yellow Submarine, I Am The Walrus, and Maxwell's Silver Hammer. Those are the bestest Beatles songs ever.
When I think of the Who, I think of My Generation, Happy Jack and Baba Riley. Those are the bestest Who songs ever.
I would love to see the Beatles team up with the Who.
-
Man, both of those ideas of "what you think of when you think of the Beatles" depress me.
-
To be fair, I do think of Maxwell's Silver Hammer, cause it's on Abbey Road and that's my favourite one. However, I think of many other Abbey Road tracks before, Something and I Want You (She's So Heavy) particularily, the latter also completely destroys The Who in terms of fucking shit up.
-
im just saying people get different vibes when you compare the who and the beatles.
-
...I would presume they would.
Since they're like.
Two totally fucking different bands.
-
i really have no comeback for that....
-
I know, I'm amazing.
-
i know, you seriusly cut me off at the head! oh the flash back of middle school comes to me!
anyway, i agree that teh Whotles are never gonna be a band because they are all too old
-

Yeah, THAT'S why they'd never be a good band.
-
no DK thats why they will never "come together" they are too old, to find out if there good you must put them together first
-
So your saying that The Who and the Beatles won't "Join Together"?
I think if the ever did "Come Together" they might need some "Help"! and so i ask "How can you do it alone" the answer? You cannot we need some sort of group. No no "Put the money down" we must not become a charity "In spite of all the Danger" we must persevier they might be some "Rough boys" but "We can work it out".
"Ps. I love you"

I know my awsomness is disconcerting sometimes
-
mmm...the who......
also, i once held an entire conversation with my boyfriend with me just using beatles song titles.....i belive my best placed ones were "no pakistanis", "everybody's got something to hide except for me and my monkey", and the way i finished the conversation......"why don't we do it in the road?"
-
There was a Powerpuff Girls episode like that.
Minus the doing it in the road
-
They've already got Ringo Starr's kid on drums. Why don't they just get Ringo Starr?
because he isnt that good......
-
from what i've heard, they are indeed going on a tour in the USA this september and supposedly releasing their new album on the 28th this month. can anyone confirm my findings?
