Pitchforkmedia has a track review of the new Hold Steady track. Does anyone know if this has been posted anywhere by anyone? I don't know if this is against forum rules or anything but i NEED new Hold Steady like i need a drug.
Or I can just listen to Seperation Sunday for the 900th time
-
God I second this request I really, really, really would love the new Hold Steady album, I haven't even heard that new track yet.
-
they have the decemberists' new album too
-
Yah.
I mean, I can only listen to it for about 900 times straight and then it gets a bit tired.
Seriously, Seperation Sunday has taken over my brain. I listen to it every other day or so and I think i can recite the whole thing fromm memory
Its a bit scary
"She knew all the words to Running Up the Hill/that song got burned into her soul/she didn't know the lyrics but she still got the metaphor/yeah we all knew people who'd switched places before"
-
the promos are out...so uh, hopefully soon.
-
Comes out in October.
I get to see them for the 3rd time at Lollapaloozaaa
-
any luck anyone?
-
friend of mine just became their keyboardist before this album was recorded.
i should probably ask him about it, The Hold Steady is amazing.
I'll get back to this thread if I find out anything about song samples, release, or anything.
-
you'd better.
-
I asked the street press I write for to send this CD or the new Decemberists or the new Bob Dylan in their next shipment of CDs. Haven't got it yet...
-
I got A Hold Steady CD. Its a rerealease of their first album with 5 bonus tracks and a video.
I guess its kinda new
-
where did you aquire such a thing and ... can I have it?
-
I 'work' for the street press, in the sense that i do things for them and instead of paying me they send me the CDs and get me on the door to gigs, thus saving the middle step where i pay the money they pay me into gig tickets and Camera Obscura CDs
on the downside i have to listen to 4 hours of Henry Rollins sometime in the next 2 weeks, or listen to enough to get 200 words out of it
-
Hey, I like Henry Rollins.
-
As do I. I liked him for an hour when i saw him talk at a festival. But i'm pretty busy, and while i can listen to music in the background and get an impression of it (though i need at least one close listen to be thorough), i don't think i can do that with 4 hours of spoken word
i guess i can have a listening party with other Rollins fans. he LOVES Australia
i could listen to Craig Finn from The Hold Steady talk for 4 hours. or Tom Waits
i have a recording of Rollins talking about Tom Waits
last time i reviewed the new Dashboard Confessional album. that was fun, but mean
-
seriously though new hold steady...?
though that job does sound sweet, I can't say I've listened to any of Rollins' spoken word stuff, is it any good?
-
so on the offical hold steady form's there was some talk of it leaking, anyone have any luck?
-
It hasn't leaked yet. The promo copies are pretty much unrippable but I'm sure someone will figure it out before the release.
Chips Ahoy was posted for download by Pitchfork about a month ago. This and Southtown Girls (closing track on the new album) can be found on The Hold Steady's Myspace, here:
www.myspace.com/theholdsteady
Hot Fries is not on the new album but it is a new(er) song.
-
also if you pre-order the album off of amazon you can stream the whole thing
-
It's leaked. I found it on Soulseek last night.
It's bloody glorious. I'm still on the fence if it's better then Seperation Sunday or not, but it is definitely one of the best records of the year hands down.
-
Hey, I like Henry Rollins.
CAUSE I'M A LIAR
OOHHHHHHHH I'M A LIAR
Anyways. I've only heard a couple Hold Steady tracks and while they sound quite good I can't get over the guy's voice.

That's a poor quality stream rip transcode.

It sounds pretty good quality to me, but I'm not majorly picky about my quality anyway. I can't really notice any difference in quality to this then anything else.
-
Hot Soft Light is good. Stuck Between Stations was better live.
-
damn it, this must be mine. any links...?
-
i only have Separation Sunday
how is their first album?
anyway, October 3! hopefully my college radio station gets it within the next week so I can listen to it sooner, but I doubt it.
-
Their first (Almost Killed Me) is also quite good, though not quite up to Seperation Sunday in my mind, it's got I'd say more of a classic rock sound, then Seperation Sunday. ie longer guitar solos. But I'd still HIGHLY reccomend it to anyone who's a fan of Seperation Sunday.
-
OMG it just leaked on Demonoid!
-
I will do anything. I mean ANYTHING for a demonid invitation. Pretty, Pretty, Pretty, Please!
-
Oh I see that they are open on the weekends. Excellent!
-
It's been leaked for awhile, but i guess it was poor audio quality or something. either way i still like it alot
-
for you major hold steady fans, Craig Finn has recorded a podcast. I'm guessing the link is on their website (though I got it from their myspace)
-
Eh... screw leaks, it's nicer to have a good quality tangible version right when it is released. It's more fun that way :-D.
-
there's a new leak where it's not transcode and pretty good quality

I Love Zombielove! She/He is the coolest, also big ups for the M.Ward sig. Great song/album.
-
The Album is up for stream on Pitchfork right now. It's the first i've heard of this band and I must say i'm liking it ALOT, definatley gonna buy this next week when it comes out.
Now I only wish I could find a good download for Separation Sunday but alas...
-
Oh man.
I saw these guys in Cambridge last night. Last show of their current tour.
I think more alcohol was consumed on stage between Sean Na Na and the Hold Steady than in the audience.
They actually *do* drink as much as the characters in their songs.
