Title: QC radio
Post by: öde on 27 Aug 2006, 04:30
All the info you could ever want is here! http://www.questionablewiki.com/index.php/QC_radio

Request a timeslot, I'm planning to try and get a good show going between 7 and 12pm GMT on tuesdays and thursdays, which is probably the best time for me to organize it properly. If you'd like to broadcast at a different time/day just let me know and we'll work it out.

I was about to say last.fm but that sounds very cool, if I can work it out I am up for it :)

How exactly does this work? Do we just pick songs for that period, or do we have to jabber in between.

All you need to do is click on listen to listen to my musics, it opens in winamp.

It's really easy Praeserpium Machinarum, just download the shoutcast dj thingy and have a look.

You can talk if you want, we may or may not pity you for doing so.

And we pick all the songs we want to play in that time period each week/day?
Title: QC radio

Just make a playlist for like 30 mins, an hour, you can do it as a one off or have a regular slot.

I have downloaded it but I don't how to set it up. I suppose I need some details about the server or something.

I'd so want a regular weekly slot, I think. This is the kind of thing that gives me an orgasm - forcing my own music tastes on other people ;-) I'd probably do theme weeks as well.

Hooray, we'll organise the times in GMT +1 (from now on reffered to as GMT as I'm in GMT with daylight savings) since that's what I'm currently in and screw all your other timezones.

We could start it either tuesday or thursday evening, either is good for me but I don't know how much time you guys would need to prepare. It'd be best if it was late evening GMT, around 8pm to 11pm to get a slightly larger audience.

We need to work out timeslots so just tell me whatever's good for you (ie. what times you can do and what times you'd like to do).

To connect to the server:

Open the plugin by going into your winamp preferences and going to Plugins > DSP/Effect and selecting the shoutcast thingy.

Go to Output 1 and put 81.109.119.246 as the ip and port 8000. The password is 16fluidoz . Encoder should be on 1 (mp3, 24kbps). Then just click connect and you're broadcasting!

Make sure no-one else is broadcasting first though or terrible things might happen. Terrible things.

9 pm will probably suit me fine. I figure I could do an hour exclusively of Danish music or something.

I will end the show with NIGHTMARISH THINGSSSSSS.

Or possibly I will set themes for each week and treat you to an incredible selection of interesting and unusual music from my vast archives.

Whichever suits.

I prae, test broadcast time!

Is there any easier way of adding your own talking to the stream than recording mp3 interludes to go between the tracks as you play 'em on winamp?

If you stick your mic into your pc and select sound card from the input tab I imagine it will let you talk to people live :O

Edit: Yeah, that does work.

So it would be best if you had a later slot?

I should be able to do 7pm - 7:30pm tomorrow.

I think we might have to give everyone a half hour slot to fit everyone in, I don't think the people with hour slots would mind.

Right, it's working. Now does it just play the track that's highlighting continuously, or until you choose a different track? Because I paused the song I was listening to and it didn't appear to stop on the broadcast.

Okay, it's the latter. Okay, I'm all set then.

Umn, It's originally by Edvard Grieg...

And it is an astounding version. Fucking insane live. So much so that it kinda killed the album version for me. Live they have the crowd clap along, when they build up the speed, and then it just goes insane, and you've got one guy rolling around on the floor with his arm moving the bow so fast its crawling him across the stage, another guy all stood like Abbath from Immortal headbanging like a maniac and thumping his cello spike to start the clapping, another guy standing on top of the fucking drum kit with the spike on a cymbal with his hands like blurs, the other sitting on the oaken throne from which he never moved, which somehow made the whole thing better. Oh, and, like, a hundred random metalheads, rivetheads, and general rockers smashing along to it in the pit. To goddamn classical music. It was beautiful. They really have made their own sound and experience since, essentially, starting off as the first 'String Quartet tribute to...'. Though I must say they still do an orgasmic version of Master of Puppets.

I mean, Beyond Time was probably the first song I ever heard that I could safely describe as beautiful.

Yay! Who's playing Dornenreich?

We can easily keep this up, and organised, much more than on these evenings. I think we've proved that, so long as we have a schedule, we do in fact need very little supervision. I'd love a late night show at some point, my sleeping schedule fits with it, and it's the time most of my music collection deserves to be played.

Also, do I see that we can play mpegs? If anyone can suggest a good avi to mpeg converter (most of my stuff, and most of the best of it, is in avi.)

I can potter off some old french surrealist bollocks, a few of my impressive collection of fundamentalist anti-heavy metal documentaries, lighten the mood with some 1950's sex education vids, introduce you to Icelandic cinema, classic horror...the possibilities are endless!

As far as I can tell. Since I left; Dans playlist has been going non-stop. So the odds are pretty good that you're listening to safety dance.

Are there enough djs to keep it going 24/7? This should be possiblle due to ppl living in different time zones.

We'll wait till nihilist sets up the shoutcast server on his server, don't be rapin my bandwidth.

Also, fuck yes, QC Radio! I regret missing the rest of the show to go to a crappy party.

On the up side, I can re-use my playlist since like only tommy was listening to my broadcast.

It sounds like Rather Confused has left my playlist on loop, so that's what you're listening to now.

I think I'll ban him for now (it auto-reconnects when I kick) and play something else.

Several songs on loop isn't fun.

can we set this up so us people in the US can broadcast earlier?
Title: QC radio
Post by: Mnementh on 30 Aug 2006, 23:33
No one seems to be playing, I've got a program that allows me to broadcast from the mac, so I'm going to set a play list to play for a few hours and then head to bed.

It's going to be mostly classical tonight.  Rachmaninov and Prokofeiv.

what is gmt time and how do i figure out how to change it to pacific time? whats the time difference?
Title: QC radio
Post by: Tokuma on 05 Sep 2006, 16:39
I think that pacific time is -8hrs GMT, meaning if it is midnight GMT time it would be four in the afternoon Pacific time. Its also important to note that in the case of QC radio, GMT is actually GMT +1 so it would be five in the afternoon pacific.

06:05:28   Arthur King - GRANDMASTER FLASH FEAT. MOBB DEEP / WHITE LINES (DON'T DON'T DO IT)/QUIET STORM
06:03:10   Arthur King - LIQUID, LIQUID FEAT. THE NOTORIOUS B.I.G. & GRANDMASTER FLASH / CAVERN/NASTY BOY RMX/WHITE LINES (DON'T DON'T DO IT)
06:01:57   Arthur King - MIAMI SOUND MACHINE FEAT. MASE / BAD BOY/FEEL SO GOOD

Srsly.

Srsly, you're a dick.

Anyway, I'm broadcasting at this moment. I'm not sure how long I'll be on here, but I'll leave my playlist going once I leave, which means it'll end once Won't Get Fooled Again's done.

Name tracks properly and say nice things to me or I'll ban you from the radio!
Title: QC radio
Post by: Thrillho on 07 Sep 2006, 12:58
Ah, I do apologise sir; I misinterpreted what you were saying to mean 'songs with names like this - i.e. hip-hop - are banned.'

As far as naming properly, what do you mean? My songs are all tagged thusly:

Artist - Album - Song Title

Sometimes without the album if I don't have it in full.

Is the server up? I want to broadcast.

edit: it appears to be down, so I wont be broadcasting. Which is a shame because I have a kick ass playlist.
Title: QC radio
Post by: Thrillho on 08 Sep 2006, 09:13
When the server says it's down, that just means no-one is broadcasting. As soon as you start broadcasting, it goes back up.
