Title: Cursive and Oh no! Oh my!
Post by: ComfortEagle on 28 Aug 2006, 19:32
Cursive comes to dallas next month and Oh no! Oh my! Comes to a venue like ten minuets from my house on friday, its going to be a good year for shows I think. Also, im listening to the newest Cursive album, and im enjoying it. All though I like the horns, im missing the strings.

I heard about Oh No! Oh My! through QC, but the first time I actually heard them was on a Telus commercial. While the song was pretty awesome, I am skeptical.

Cursive's new album is better than all the rest of their stuff put together. They really went in the right direction this time, going from a band I was never fond for to making a great album.

bullshit, happy hollow defies all that cursive was at its core. they lost their cello player and added a horn section, its lyrics are far from what cursive was in previous albums.

i dont mind it when bands take a new direction but it seems like tim took too much influence from stuff he was doing in the good life and trying to translate it to a rough version of cursives style.

I've only heard The Ugly Organ, but it is pretty neat.

Honestly, it's a band. They made some artistic choices, get over it.

I don't think you're being very fair. The cello was on one record. Just the one. What about Storms of Early Summer? How about Such Blinding Stars for Starving Eyes? Domestica, anyone? As far as it sounding like Good Life, I don't know where you're getting that. Listening to songs like "Big Bang," "Flag and Family," "Dorothy Dreams of Tornadoes," and the lead single ("Dorothy At Forty") all seem to have that grim, somber almost-insanity and bitterness that characterizes Cursive. Good Life is far more relaxed and reflective in the songs. If you're calling out " Into The Fold," yes it sounds like some Good Life, songs, but it's a 14 song record; not that big of a chunk. Also, that is a good song.

I am not talking about Cursive right now. It would not be funny.

Well the concert went well, met a new friend, enjoyed the other bands that played, the only thing that was missing was... Oh No! Oh my!, they did not show up. And the venue failed to mention that. So does anyone know where I could locate thier album? I want to hear them one way or another and I cant seem to locate a torrent or anything and I cant' order online for the lack of any money besides cash.

I have only listened to Cursives latest album. What I am wondering is:

Is their older stuff MORE Alienating than this album? Because it is typically the case that when I listen to a band because of something said in this place, their newer stuff is quite a bit less fucking insane and bizzare than their older stuff.

And this is still a pretty fucking weird album.

DOES THE CELLO BRING THE FUNK?!?

WHAT?!?!
