Title: Brazilian Girls and Yo La Tengo
Post by: Garcin on 31 Aug 2006, 09:09
Brazilian Girls Talk to La Bomb and Yo La Tengo I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass are now thoroughly leaked, with official release planned for September.

My initial impressions of both is that the Brazilian Girls album isn't nearly as strong as the debut self-titled album, with no song nearly as catchy as stand-outs like Pussy, Don't Stop, and Dance 'til the Morning.  Meanwhile, the YLT album is a 9 course meal with everything in there, funk, Brazilian beats, jazz, indie, going on for 1.2 hours.  I'm still sort of wrapping my mind around the both of them and will post more after a few more listens.

Thoughts?

Brazilian Girls is definitely on my shortlist for bands I really want to see live.  Apparently they are really into audience participation.  In their South and Central American concerts, audience members often bring instruments to their shows and play along.  Which is kind of funny, when you consider that they broke at Nublu, which is on Avenue C in Manhattan, where audience members, if they're really into a set, will nod and smile.

Anyway, at performances of their song Pussy (the lyrics for which are "Pussy, pussy, pussy, marajuana" repeated over and over) they had the lads shout out "We want it" and the ladies shout out "we got it".  Frickin' awesome.

I really need to pick up the first album considering how much I've liked what I've heard so far of them.

This is possibly the best thing I have ever seen concerning Yo La Tengo and the internet.
