It's leaked . . . and it's spectacular. How does she do it?
-
With the voice of a child, my friend. With the voice of a child.
-
It truly is absolutely amazing. I can't believe how good it is.
-
Why did I not know about this?
Edit: Sooo I'm listening to it now. I am pretty happy.
-
I just got this, and wow... just wow. This is a really amazing album. The string arrangements are AMAZING. Her lyrics and voice just set so firmly on top... this one gets added to my top 10 of the year for sure.
-
Well, it's incredibly well-written. I still have great difficulty listening to Joanna's voice, but I can definitely appreciate this album.

Mine too. The last 5 minutes of Only Skin had me enthralled. Best 17 minute song ever. I cannot wait until she goes on tour to support this album.

I know, seriously I've generally am not one for such lengthy songs.. but man these are just outstanding. And when Bill Callahan comes in at the end there it's just outstanding. (though I'm a big fan of Bills anyway )

Lol. Sorry shes from my town. Along with Hella, The Advantage, Black Bear. Legs on Earth, Marie, Aaron Ross, Fresh Young Blood, The Eloi, Deimos etc. Nevada City, Grass Valley Has a hell of alot of talent. She's a really cool person, shes got a real talent. Oh she loves elves btw. She played on the Jimmy Kimmel show awhile back you should go look for the clip if you can find it.

Greatly looking forward to a new Joanna record. I'll probably wait until it comes out as I'm simply not one for latching onto leaks.
-
Well, I've heard it now. It's an absolutely gorgeous record, but the track lengths - five tracks, the bulk of them running over nine minutes and "Only Skin" almost breaking the 17 minute barrier? It's a dense listen, guys, but worthwhile.
I think working with Van Dyke Parks was a brilliant idea. Those strings are perfectly matched to her songwriting idiosyncrancies. Also, having Steve Albini record her harp and voice was a pretty good idea, sonically.
-
She's playing in my town pretty soon. Is she worth going to see you think? I'm pretty strapped for money.
-
i had a drink at the start of the show.
i forgot to drink it.
I'll venture a "yes."
-
Absolutely amazing album. She's coming here December 5th, and I'll definately be there, especially after Tommy's story there.
-
it really is an amazing album I just wish I could catch her on tour.
-
Her harp playings nice, but the vocals make me want to club seals and invade Poland.
Just my general appeal of Newsom. It's annoying and precious, and it leaches all the emotional impact and power her songs could have. I actually find her more annoying than Tiny Tim, because at least he had the good grace to acknowledge he was a novelty.

Tried the track on their website. I'd far rather listen to Joanna Newsom raw. I put it down to the fact that Deerhoof are really quite shit.
I recommend everyone listen to Coil. I warn you though, Coil actually is strange, out there, experimental stuff, and exposure to it might blow your mind.

Thanks for the heads-up! I was thinking you were going to recommend something low-key and safe.

it's a fantastic album to be sure. i'm not yet sure if i like this or milk-eyed mender more, however. both are outstanding in my book.
