If there was already a thread like this, I apologize; I did a search and didn't find anything that made this look like a re-post.
What are some of the programs you use on a daily basis that you have a particular fondness for? I do production work for a radio station (producing commercials, voice-overs, imaging and all that fun crap) and I use Adobe Audition for well over half my work day. I have spent a good amount of time dicking around with it, and so far I have developed this nerdy kind of fondness for Audition as an app...I also have a healthy appreciation for Dreamweaver when doing HTML stuff, because it allows me to manually type out all the codes - I don't know why, but for some reason I find that actually kind of relaxing - but if I mess things up, it highlights all my stupid human errors.
Anyone else wanna join me in geekiness?

Eh, I'm nowhere near that good at straight coding...I like that Dreamweaver helps you cheat, and since I ALWAYS forget to close out my tags, Dreamweaver is helpful there too...

Like, but conditionally:
Eclipse (yes, it's bloated, yes it's ugly, yes it's complex... but I adore its on the fly error checking, excellent autocomplete, etc...)
SubEthaEdit (great concept, pretty good editor. If it integrated with my IM buddy list and had a few bugs I run into fixed, it'd be in <3)
OmniWeb (I don't actually use it much, but it's such a beautifully designed app that I can't not list it)
Dishonorable mention:
Quicktime Player (the underlying tech is fineok... why is the player so skanky?)
Xcode (especially pre-2.x)
Colloquy (stop crashing when I ban people)

Along those lines, how about we stick to apps that other people wouldn't know about that we think are cool/useful? Along those lines, I gotta point out both Blitz3D and Poser. The former is an excellent programming language/game engine I use for developing interactive 3D stuffs. As for the latter, although as a 3D tool it is faaaaaar from full featured, Poser is hella fun to goof around with. It doesn't take much effort to just throw up a couple characters and start rendering out images of them in funny positions.

Quicksilver (http://quicksilver.blacktree.com/) changed the way I think about doing typical daily tasks on a computer, and typically the first thing I do on a computer that doesn't have it installed is make a fool out of myself by trying to invoke it.
Vim (http://macvim.org/OSX/index.php) changed the way I think about editing text, which is a bigger deal than it might seem like. Like Quicksilver, actually, there are so many different features and things packed into Vim that using it is a perpetual learning process, which I love; you can just keep getting better with it. With most editors, the only way to get more productive is to increase your touch-typing speed, but with Vim, there's always one more command that can save you a few keystrokes.
LaTeX (http://www.latex-project.org/) has to be on here now that I'm back in grad school. There is simply no better way to write anything with math in it. And LaTeX also gets bonus points for being so widespread that a Google search for it doesn't bring up weird fetish porn.

LaTeX (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaTeX) is the best typesetting program ever. I’m writing my thesis in it, and I’m never going back to another word-processor for serious documents. Suck it, MS Word.
Right now, I’m going through the arduous task of learning to code in Fortran 90/95 so I can use my uni’s cluster for enginnering calculations.

I haven't seen anyone touting teh merits of Camino. Firefox is for windows/linux...mac users ought to try Camino: FF aquafied.

For watching videos: Totem and MPlayer (though I might drop MPlayer if I can get Totem to work with embedded media).

After getting my first Mac a couple of months ago, I had to say goodbye to a few programs I'd been using quite frequently earlier, but some survived the transfer and I've learned to love/like/use others.. A list of both kinds:
- Opera: I'm insanely happy that Opera exists for Macs as well. It's my favourite browser, by far, and I lovelovelove it. I'll only use Firefox for testing websites and to use Hattrick (because of the Foxtrick plug-in) and Safari whenever I have to use my bank online, because it won't work in Opera or Firefox on a Mac, which sucks.
- TextWrangler: My web/script editor of choice, so far. I've tried a few, but ended up with this one. I have a feeling I might convert to Emacs after a while when we start doing more complex programming at uni, but we'll see.
- iTunes: Uhm, yeah, I like it and use it constantly. Don't know what else to say.
- Photoshop: Well, of course.
- Azureus: Actually, I hate Azureus. But I use it because I haven't bothered checking out some other torrent programs I've been recommended.
- X-Chat Aqua: I recently re-discovered the wonder that is IRC, and after using Opera's built-in client for a couple of weeks, I switched to X-Chat. Not sure why, but might have something to do with the fact that I kept closing the wrong tabs in Opera :p
- VLC media player: Love it, and use it for watching TV shows/movies. It pretty much just works for most of the stuff I watch, which is the very simple reason as to why I like it.
- MSN Messenger for Mac: Doesn't have webcam/audio support, but ah well. The other stuff works decently, and I think they're working on implementing it. aMSN was too messy for me and Mercury was fugly.
- Mail: For reading my school related e-mails. Simple and works superbly for my limited needs.
- ShakesPeer: DC client, which I use to connect to the hub for my student housing complex, where I can get stuff outside of the daily quota and at a speed up to 10MB/s <3.
- NeoOffice: Had to try it once the trial for MS Office for Mac ran out, and it looks pretty good so far. I think I might be going back to MS Office soon because there's a rumor saying that I can get a license for free at school, but until then NeoOffice is a mighty fine alternative. It's the Mac version of OpenOffice, that doesn't require X11 or whatever it's called.
- Path Finder: Using the trial now, and I think I love it. It's an alternative to OS X's Finder, but with quite a few features I've missed dearly. I think I might pay for this.
- UnRarX: Simple and effective program for packing out .rar files.
Oh, and I'm in need of a good FTP program for a Mac, any suggestions? Preferably free, but if it's good enough, I might be willing to pay.

I used to use daemon tools, that was until I starting hearing about how one of the versions was really fucking with people's systems.

Spike, Daemon Tools 4.03 or something only works if you do a lot of work, and that work did have a tendancy to make people's systems go a little bit...fubar. However, 4.0 still works beautifully, and is sitting on www.oldversion.com.

I like Transmit pretty well, although I tend to just use the command line ftp about half the time ;)

I once thought like you. I knew that their were betters out there but refused to look for the sake of lazyness. Now I dont know what I would do without uTorrent. Great program!

I prefer ABC (ANother Bittorrent Client) for torrenting. It does everything I need it to, and is fairly user friendly, so I have no complaints.

I reckon MPlayer shits all over Totem. I used to use VLC a lot but I'm an Mplayer convert.
My Favourite program would definately have to be Audacity, so damn handy. I wish it had a midi sequencer though.
This will generate some controversy but I'm going to have to go with emacs over vi, it what they taught us during my first year of uni and it's just stuck with me.

microtorrent is beautiful; comes close to being a shining beacon of perfection.
Oh, and Media Player Classic puts all other media players into the trash.

I so second mike's Media Player Classic and microtorrent.
However, I do like VLC; my desktop moniter has a tendancy to display retardedly dark, so it's easy to change in VLC.
For audio I prefer winamp, just personal habit. All I really need it to do is have global keyboard shortcuts and play music, and Winamp does that.

Yeah, that's what pretty much everyone says. But there's no OS X-version of uTorrent :( It was in progress, but then the guy writing it quit because the conversion was too difficult, and now I'm not sure what's happening. I could install some extra software just to run uTorrent, but they (as in CrossOver, Parallells is too much for just a torrent program) will steal cpu/memory, and I don't want that. And the various programs I've been recommended for OS X all have drawbacks, minor or huge, so I'm just skeptical. But there must be something out there with less drawbacks than Azureus, it's just so fucking slow. I think I might try Transmission, not sure yet.

Okay, so everyone is posting what programs they use on a daily basis...now for the REALLY nerdy question; what programs do you actually really, really ENJOY using. I use Adobe Audition daily for work, and I really just flat out like using that program. In some sick, twisted way, it gives me pleasure.

Checked out XTorrent? It's in beta still, but it looks pretty nice.

I love guitar pro. It converts all notes into tabliture so you can learn the piano parts for guitar too. And it will play the whole song in a delightfully hilarious midi-format.
Oh, and it's also good for learning actual guitar parts, I guess...
