I know Godspeed is pretty popular 'round these parts.  Does anyone here like the offspring A Silver Mt. Zion?  I love me some GY!BE, but I usually find myself liking ASMZ more...anyone else?

I haven't listened to a ton of ASMZ, but what I have listened to has yet to top GY!BE.  GY!BE just seems to work better on the whole, though that's not to say taht ASMZ aren't great in their own right.  You know, I think I'll go listen to Godspeed right now...

i don't see it particularly wise, or rather, useful, to compare the two, as they are both completely different entities, with entirely different sounds and approaches. i find them both equally well done, entertaining, and correct. i think both projects successfully convey the desired message. i tend to find godspeed much more intense and moving, although, i find that the pretty little lightning paw ep is the single most painful, desperate, frustrated, suffocating, yet intoxicating and addictive music i have heard, in the best way possible.

They can't really be compared but I suppose I prefer ASMZ.

I find myself listening to GY!BE much more, but I still really like ASMZ quite a lot. I guess it depends on my mood, for some reason if I'm in a darker mood I'll throw on GY!BE before I'll throw on ASMZ. I agree with them being totally different entitites and all of that stuff though.

most of all the GYBE members are in ASMZ now anyway, which kinda works if you want to see them live (since GYBE is "on hiatus").

that said, i prefer GYBE i think. i think it's the general lack of vocals and longer pieces that does it for me. although when i saw ASMZ live some of their stuff sounded a bit GYBE-ish.

I think at one point their full name was "Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra with Tra-la-la Choir" or something like that...pretty much everyone just calls them A Silver Mt. Zion

At the time of "This Is Our Punk-Rock," Thee Rusted Satellites Gather+Sing, they were called The Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band with Choir. that is the longest and most ridiculous they got i think.
