If you're a last.fm user just post your top 5 songs thats it. Afterwards our friends can make sweeping generalizations about our personality, height, hygene from five songs!
If you DON't have last.fm just open all the music on your computer and play 5 random songs, then post!
rule 1: No editing!
rule 2: Don't be too mean this is for fun
rule 3: GO ahead and try to explain away that track you supposedly could never like people will see right through it.
rule 4: WE FEED!

oh and Norah Jones is from my girlfirend...I hate Norah with the burning passion of an Ex-Borders Employee who had to listen to her lite jazz assholeface for 6 months TWICE a day.
promise.
credit: this was a game I played on the somethingawful.com forums and thought was awesome hopefully you will too.
Awesomeness by the eyeball kid:
I don't know any of those bands, but going by the names you're a skinny kid in a black t-shirt with incomprehensible lettering who gets moist over 16 minute guitar solos and songs about your D&D character, who is a dwarf who drinks alot.

I've been listening to some cassette tape of Fugazi that I found in a thrift store for a quarter. I consider it to be one of my greatest thrift store finds ever.
Sorry, edit:
I don't usually listen to individual songs at a time, so here are the last 5 artists I've had playing:
Fugazi (see above, right?)
Mastodon
Botch
A Silver Mt. Zion
Miles Davis

How someone racks up 120 posts and still doesn't know about Khar and his very large collection of metal musics, I do not know.
I have no recent tracks, because my internet's been down for about a week now. I'm very angry about this.
Top Tracks:
1 We Are Scientists – This Scene Is Dead - 168
2 We Are Scientists – The Great Escape - 166
3 We Are Scientists – Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt - 165
3 We Are Scientists – Inaction - 165
5 Clutch – Pulaski Skyway - 149
Went on a We Are Scientists kick for a while, but I'd really like Clutch back up at the top sometime (the next 40 top tracks are all basically Clutch).

I have a beer belly and sideburns, and I play Exalted, but everything else is essentially correct.

3. The Lawrence Arms – On With the Show
4. Gorgoroth – Funeral Procession
5. The Lawrence Arms – The Devils Takin Names
Buh? Gorgoroth, seriously? I always think that Sigur Ros would be higher on my lists because I listen to them a lot, but then I just remember that they have long songs.
I don't know any of those bands
How do you not know 3 Inches of Blood?

I'll just start with the most recent song on my playlist and then add each new song that comes up.
1. Black Label Society - Fire It Up (My collection of all the cool songs from Guitar Hero is almost complete.)
2. Creedance Clearwater Revival - Who'll Stop The Rain? (<3 Creedance)
3. The White Stripes - You've Got Her In Your Pocket (I just bought the album Elephant yesterday on the advice of a friend and I'm loving it.)
4. Pantera - The Art of Shredding (Ahahaha, going from one of the most laid back, chill songs on my entire playlist to Pantera cracks me up on a rather deep level)
5. Red Hot Chili Peppers - She's Only 18 (I thought I took this song of my playlist. It's one of the only songs off Stadium Arcadium I don't care for.)
6. Queens of the Stone Age - Medication (\m/)
7. Pearl Jam - Severed Hand (I don't think that Pearl Jam's most recent album got enough credit. There's a number of really good songs on it like this one.)
8. Les Claypool & The Holy Mackerel - The Awakening (If only the guy would make more songs that were more along the awesome funky lines like this one that the utterly bizarre.)
9. The Doors - The Unknown Soldier (It's The Doors, what else can I say?)
10. Soundgarden - Loud Love (Hearing the original version and juxtaposing it against Audioslave performing it makes me realize just how badly Chris Cornell's voice has deteriorated over the years.)

to contribute to my own post:
you probably can't stand a song unless it
A: Has some pretenious swedish dude moaning
B: is under 15 minutes long
You probably think a band sucks unless they have a full sentence name (I know you listen to GSYBE and Do Make Say Think)
You more than likely won't consider a guitarist good unless they play with a screwdrive/small rodent
-
Here is where I fail to ingratiate myself to the cool people by letting on just how much dodgy emo occupies my current listening time...
Cursive - Hymns for the Heathen
Fall Out Boy - Sugar, We're Going Down
Bright Eyes - The Awful Sweetness of Escaping Sweat
Thom Yorke - Harrowdown Hill
The Faint - How Could I forget
Saves the Day - Say You'll Never Leave
Also, I have an apparant inability to count.

The last ten songs I listened to on iTunes, including the one I'm listening to now (at the top):

This is pretty fun.

What you listen to is based completly on current buzz bands! Also, Cat Stevens indicates you are a Muslim terrorist and AiH means you are 5 years old
That Regina Spektor song keeps popping up lately... its a bit creepy.
-
"Loaner" -Doc Hopper
"Optimist" -American Steel
"Rub" -Co-Ed
"Communication" -Fifteen
"Start With Me" -Time In Malta
Proof that party shuffle is mad.

5. Architecture in Helsinki – It'5!
Sweeping generalization: you and i would be best friends (we should probably post our last.fm names here. mine is ChrisBrimstone)
Mean self-hating generalizations: You're quirky, but not too quirky. Its probably early in the morning where you are, since 2 of those 5 songs are my wake-up songs. You read alot of books and are usually depressed, which is why for something to be happy it needs to be ULTRA ULTRA ULTRA happy. You're vaguly bothered by Sufjan's christianity, but not by his unrepentant pussyness. You've got an unreleased NMH song, so you spend way too much time on the internet. Railing against sex is irrelevant, 'cause you probaly don't get too much of it.
My top 5 tracks overall:
1 The Hold Steady – Your Little Hood Rat Friend
2 The Hold Steady – The Swish
3 Gersey – Gracie
3 The Hold Steady – Chicago Seemed Tired Last Night
5 The Crayon Fields – Lovely Time
To help: Crayon Fields- local indie pop. think B&S. Gersey- local dream-pop
-
Last 10 songs played on my iPod:
Cathedral - Satanikus Robottikus
Exodus - I Am Abomination
Strapping Young Lad - Wrong Side
Arch Enemy - The First Deadly Sin
Shadow Gallery - The Andromeda Strain

Planet X - Ataraxia
Ayreon - Day Fourteen: Pride
Kamelot - Nothing Ever Dies
Testament - Disciples of the Watch

He is definitely underrated. I saw him live years ago with NIN and David Bowie and to be honest, he stole the show with 25 minutes of performance.
The Puppy Gristle thing is just something I put on when painting and has been popping up more and more lately. Normally I probably wouldn't be able to just sit and listen to it.
-
I'll post the top ten on my iTunes I actually listen to.
1. Zak and Sara - Ben Fold's Five
2. Video Killed the Radio Star - The Buggles
3. River Below - Billy Talent
4. Dancing in the Moonlight - Sherman Kelly?
5. Don't Go Breakin' My Heart - ??
Actually, stopping at five, because everything else on there is crap.
-
a bunch of Eels
You're secretly E! Also: You have a beard.
Surprisingly, neither of those are correct since I recently shaved it off.
I am probably a kindred spirit of E, but I do not meet the 'dead family' requirements (and frankly, I wouldn't want to. Poor sod.)
-
I don't have that FM doodad, but here are my 10 most listened to iTunes tracks
1. I Write Sins Not Tragedies - P!atD
2. Superman (MHC Remix) - Stereophonics
3. Funny Little Frog - Belle & Sebastian
4. Build God Then We'll Talk - P!atD
5. All This Love (Tonight Only's Fuck Tomorrow Remix) - The Similou
6. Doctor Pressure (Clean Club Edit) - Mylo feat. Miama Sound Machine
7. Farther - Anthony Rother
8. This Room - Eskimo Joe
9. Cloudy This Morning - George Winston
10. Crazy - Gnarls Barkley
-
I'm going to exclude my own songs from this, because when I've just finished recording I tend to listen to it about five times and usually play it about five times the next day to other people, so it's not really a legit entry. So here's my top ten artists and songs, I feel a top 5 is shit:
Artists:
1. Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds
2. Wilco
3. Pink Floyd
4. Bob Dylan
5. Radiohead
6. The Beatles
7. Lucky Nine
8. The Twilight Singers
9. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
10. Hundred Reasons
(weirdly, I only have one album each for entries 7, 8 and 9, I've just worn them the fuck out because I like them that much.)
Songs:
1. Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - Into My Arms (16 listens)
2. Happy Mondays - Judge Fudge (14 listens)
3. The Twilight Singers - There's Been An Accident (13 listens)
3. Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - Far From Me (13 listens)
3. Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - Rock Of Gibraltar (13 listens)
3. Anathallo - Hanasakajijii (Four: A Great Wind, More Ash) (13 listens)
3. Exalt - Hold On Tight (13 listens)
8. The GUillemots - Made Up Love Song #43
8. Wilco - Jesus, Etc.
10. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Devil's Waitin'
-
Aoi "Ed" Toda - Wo Qui Non Coin (229 plays)
808 State - Pacific 212
The Lovin' Spoonful - Summer In The City
Queens Of The Stone Age - In My Head
The Avalanches - Frontier Psychiatrist
Just songs that I can't stop listening to, not my favourite artists by far (I tend to have a lot more tracks by them so it drops their place in my most played tracks list by a lot).
EDIT: COS I CAN.

You're quirky, but not too quirky.
I value quirkiness and cherish my own but don't go out of my way to be more quirky.
Its probably early in the morning where you are, since 2 of those 5 songs are my wake-up songs.
Em, that's my top 5 tracks overall, not 5 tracks I descided to play just now.
You read alot of books and are usually depressed, which is why for something to be happy it needs to be ULTRA ULTRA ULTRA happy.
I do read a lot of books, and I have had a period of depression, but it was before I signed up for last.fm. Now as for something needing to be ULTRA happy, I just recently discovered that there are people who make music that is genuinely and intentionally happy, and I found it really charming and out-there.
You're vaguly bothered by Sufjan's christianity, but not by his unrepentant pussyness.
Yep. Well actually, while I would normally be a bit botehred by it, I like to view it as a funky quirky thing.
Railing against sex is irrelevant, 'cause you probaly don't get too much of it.
At the time it made it to 2nd place in my list, indeed, not that much. But that was somewhat unusual and I also don't take sex that seriously, which is part of the reason I like the song. Also, I don't like most of NMH's songs or Jeff Mangum.

Top 5 Artists
1. Sleater-Kinney 17687
2. Ani DiFranco 2498
3. Excuse 17 2365
4. Rilo Kiley 2072
5. Evanescence 1350
I was perusing then this list came up. My first thought "Wow I could use a grilled cheese" then I realized the internet is neither run from my thoughts yet and melted cheese will hurt my harddrive. After that "JESUSFUCK thats a lot of Sleater Kinney" then I was like "Ani DiFranco so homeslice was either A. Bald at one point or B. Doesn't wear deoderant. Depending on Gender. Also if male is scared of spiders and has metal-heads protect him while he dances on a stool.
-
I'll just start with the most recent song on my playlist and then add each new song that comes up.
You have a beard. Not just a beard though this beard would make a bald eagle in front of a flag weep. A beard legendary amongst truckers. You also sweat whiskey and live on tacos or fried cheese (YUM) . If you don't chew tobacco you smoke it. ALso I want to hang out with you and have a tire fire because I guarauntee you know how to party.
-
You're so generically indie as to be statistically irrelevant.
I'm going to make that my new sig.
-
I'll post the top ten on my iTunes I actually listen to.
You're a woman who downloads songs.
Number 5 is probably Elton John & Kiki Dee, if it's a famous duet from the early 80s. "Don't go breaking my heart" "I couldn't if I tried" etc.
10 random tracks:
Porter Ricks - Port of Call
Bill Withers - Kissing My Love
M-Boogie - A Different Design (feat. Yeshua Dapoed)
A Tribe Called Quest - I Like It Like That
Selway - Flying Far
Jaylib - No Games
Franck Roger & DJ Roy - Mirage (Dub Mix)
So - h
Mapstation - 11
Minotaur Shock - Local Violin Shop
2 songs, 3 raps, 5 instrumentals. Seems fairly representative, likewise that 3 out of 10 are by Germans.
-
My iPod listening isn't on audioscrobbler, but here's my songs:
1 Regina Spektor – Somedays 203
2 Damien Rice – Sweet Avenue 46
3 Broken Social Scene – Our Faces Split the Coast in Half 44
4 Regina Spektor – Us 40
5 Architecture in Helsinki – Souvenirs 39
5 Regina Spektor – On the Radio 39
5 Stars – Elevator Love Letter 39
Basically this confirms that I am in love with ladies with pretty voices. As well as Broken Social Scene and that Damien Rice song.
Artists:
1 Broken Social Scene 700
2 Regina Spektor 529
3 Stars 433
4 Metric 406
5 Architecture in Helsinki 210
If it had iPod stats, there'd be a lot more Ratatat and The Go! Team. It does confirm what a little BSS whore I am, though.

My sweeping generalization is that you are a Canadian with eunichizingly tight jeans. Your dirty pleasure is LL Cool J.
My schizophrenic listening patterns don't really lend themselves to generalization, but here's my top five:
1. Silver Jews - K-Hole
2. Captain Beefheart - I Wanna Find A Woman That'll Hold My Big Toe Till I Have To Go (Drum Solo)
3. Deltron 3030 - Meet Cleofis Randolph the Patriarch
4. The Fiery Furnaces - I'm Gonna Run
5. Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle - Was kostet die Welt
PS: does making sweeping generalizations make anyone else feel like a huge dickhead?
-
TOP TRACKS:
1 Okkervil River – The Velocity of Saul at the Time of His Conversion 78
2 Totally Micheal – ShakeYour Booty or Die 54
3 Neutral Milk Hotel – Holland, 1945 41
4 Beulah – If We Can Land a Man on the Moon Surely I Can Win Your Heart 40
5 Animal Collective – Who Could Win a Rabbit 38
(also recently played):
1 Will Oldham 17
2 Of Montreal 14
3 Why? 12
4 Frank Zappa 11
5 Wilco 10
I'm gonna make the generalization that BrittanyMarie is the cutest girl ever!
On another note, I only have iTunes which tells me that my Top 5 songs played are:
LCD Soundsystem - Tribulations (13)
Jets to Brazil - Sea Anemone (9)
Hot Water Music - Remedy (6)
Jenny Lewis (with the Watson Twins) - Rise Up With Fists (5)
The Album Leaf - Over the Pnd (4)
-
Well there goes the 'we will be best friends' thing.
But your Top 5 overall makes up for not liking MMH much. I love Comes the Summer sooooo much. and AiH
Oh, I really seriously like AiH and teh Furnaces. Besides, your generalizations were mostly correct :)
-
This thread has made me realize one thing:
The only sweeping generalization I can make is that I don't know shit about music.
-
I don't have any of these, but the six true songs in my RealPlayer dropdown:
Fat Bottomed Girls - Queen (May)
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen (Mercury)
I Need a Hero - Bonnie Tyler
Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin
Tiny Dancer - Elton John
One Day More - Schönberg, Boublil, et al.
-

Hey.
Judge me, you fucks.
(Tired John is verbally abusive. Sorry.)

Observation made at 5:30 A.m.: You are a black Canadian. With a beard.
-
my last.fm list
to contribute to my own post:
you probably can't stand a song unless it
A: Has some pretenious swedish dude moaning
B: is under 15 minutes long
You probably think a band sucks unless they have a full sentence name (I know you listen to GSYBE and Do Make Say Think)
You more than likely won't consider a guitarist good unless they play with a screwdrive/small rodent
Umm, what? Where the hell do you get off making sweeping generalizations about my list of music from my last.fm page? Seriously, do you know something I don't?
What if I told you that I only listen to music on my computer (the only thing I have last.fm plugged into) when I fall asleep? What if I enjoy falling asleep to said above music? What if I'd rather listen to fifteen-minute instrumental songs when falling asleep because they help calm me down, wind down, relax and fall asleep?
I don't listen to Mogwai, Sigur Ros, GYBE, Do Make Say Think, et. al. at work, where I listen to the majority of my music - I'd fall asleep if I did. And I don't work at home, nor do I have a soundcard on my computer at work, so I don't have last.fm available at work. Nor do I have an iPod, nor do I use iTunes - I have a Zen:M Vision, and I've not bothered to install automatic updates when I synch my Zen with my computer every night.
I enjoy a wide variety of music. I just don't listen to it all on my computer when I'm falling asleep, because I can't fall asleep to it. Would you?
-

One out of three. Swing and a miss.
-
Huh. I honestly can't tell if mberan42 is being sarcastic or serious. The internet makes it hard to tell!
I bet Skibas_clavicle likes to dance to her muzak.
Johnny C is a ROCKER but he doesn’t like to rock out-he’d prefer to funk shit up. Also, he is probably fun. He wears tight pants in the hardcore crowd style, with dirty black converse all-stars (that he bought in ’79) but has pink and purple braids in his hair along with a feather boa. He doesn’t believe in shirts.
-
The goal of this thread has been achieved. Also, do I know you in real life Brittany? Because that's eerily accurate. All you missed was that I have a stunning physique. Stunning.
-
Let's just say that the tapping on your window late at night isn't the tree.
Also, I thought the stunning physique was pretty well-known information. I didn't want to be redundant!
-
How much did Johnny pay you, anyway?
-
It rhymes with "grillions."
-
BrittanyMarie: Professional Sweeping Generalizer. Generalizations May be Cruel or Exceedingly Kind.
As for how much he paid me, Brandon Davis calls me his "rich friend".
-
Was my music too pretentious to be generalised?
-
I don't have that FM doodad, but here are my 10 most listened to iTunes tracks
1. I Write Sins Not Tragedies - P!atD
2. Superman (MHC Remix) - Stereophonics
3. Funny Little Frog - Belle & Sebastian
4. Build God Then We'll Talk - P!atD
5. All This Love (Tonight Only's Fuck Tomorrow Remix) - The Similou
6. Doctor Pressure (Clean Club Edit) - Mylo feat. Miama Sound Machine
7. Farther - Anthony Rother
8. This Room - Eskimo Joe
9. Cloudy This Morning - George Winston
10. Crazy - Gnarls Barkley
I haven't heard of a bunch of those, but you're a dude with long black bangs hanging in your eyes most of the time. At least you don't take yourself too seriously. You're probably the inspiration of the Dancin' Emo from StuffSucks whose actual name I either forgot or never knew.
-
I think there is a band called "Build Talk Then We'll God." Or a song. Not sure.
-
My top ten songs based on Play Count on my iPod are:
1) Glosoli - Sigur Ros
2) Some Red Handed Sleight Of Hand - Cursive
3) Deformative - Black Eyes
4) Oh, You Are The Roots That Sleep Beneath My Feet And Hold The Earth In Place - Bright Eyes
5) The Game Needed Me - Minus The Bear
6) Broke And Still Breaking - Morning For The Masses
7) Thus From My Lips, By Yours, My Sin Is Purged - As Cities Burn
8 ) The Ghost - mewithoutYou
9) Be Good or Be Gone - Fionn Regan (an Irish folk artist)
10) Soft Pyramids - Q And Not U
That Bright Eyes song sure does have an unnecessarily long title. Woo!

Nuppers! I hate emos and everything they stand for!! I'm a dude with short brown hair that's either spiked up (in my "bowser" style) or pushed back. Oh...And as for songs you may not have heard of...I'll give you some genres.
1. I Write Sins Not Tragedies - P!atD (It's Huge In Australia at the moment, and my dormies won't let me stop playing it...)
2. Superman (MHC Remix) - Stereophonics (House/Electronica)
3. Funny Little Frog - Belle & Sebastian (Alternative...Or Indie...I dunno)
4. Build God Then We'll Talk - P!atD (I actually really love this song!)
5. All This Love (Tonight Only's Fuck Tomorrow Remix) - The Similou (House/Electronica)
6. Doctor Pressure (Clean Club Edit) - Mylo feat. Miama Sound Machine (House/Electronica)
7. Farther - Anthony Rother (House/Electronica)
8. This Room - Eskimo Joe (I think Eskimo Joe are an Australian Band...So you may not have heard of them...But they are alternative)
9. Cloudy This Morning - George Winston (Piano Instrumental)
I'm amazed there was a lack of chill music on there. My main two genres that are up in my playlist are 'cafe' and 'house/electronica'...
10. Crazy - Gnarls Barkley
-
Ha, I only based my generalization on Panic! At the Disco just because I don't like them :)
Zanrar is Christian, but not an obnoxious one.

My sweeping generalization hath been thwarted! Anger gland and music gland now on civil war...the hurting...I...may die. I will melt like a rose petal.
Good response hehe you done out essayed bastardness good play chum, good play.
so we're clear read with minimum of sarcasm I actually really liked your post.
ps:
sometimes when I post in forums I feel like the character Matt Foley played on Kids in the Hall that said everything with a perpetually sarcastic tone supposedly because of a birth defect and has no control over the tone of his voice.

^Sweeping generalisation = you believe there is no such thing as too many guitar solos and feel that not enough people wear leather pants these days.
My list is what I last played on my itunes at work (excluding multiple instances of the same band):

2. Beirut - Postcards From Italy

Can you say "rebel without a cause"?
(Apparently, my playlist is too generic to generalize...but not to be disturbingly specific about.)
-
"Ask DNA" - Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts
This is stereotypical of someone I would have sex with.

The National – Secret Meeting

You probably look pretty normal but what your friends don't know is that you sneak out into the forest at night and commune with nature and you also play a weird instrument and listen to awesome music I love neutral milk hotel more than I love ravioli...thats right..ravioli.

You like to rawk out maybe? Commerical "hard" rock radio stations are fine with you?
You wear dirty jeans and still buy cd's in mainstream stores?
At least you don't copy your playlists directly from Pitchfork/other influential indie sources like most here appear to do...
Here's mine. Generalize me.

2 -Virgin Black ? Lamenting Kiss 23
2 -Arcturus ? Hibernation Sickness Complete 23

You have an extensive knowledge of music theory, own a long black coat and probably a large amount of other black clothing (tasteful clothing though, we're talking poet not cheesy metaller) and read German philosophy while drinking red wine.
I don't own an mp3 player or have my own computer, so tracks from a mixtape will have to do:
Spy Versus Spy - Rich Girl's Mistletoe
The Green Acre - The Diffusion of Water
Army of Flying Robots - Pedestal
Shellac - Dog And Pony Show
Swing Kids - Warsaw
Why? - Rubber Traits
Walls of Jericho - Misanthropy
Hot Snakes - LAX
Amber Inn - Leave With Dignity
Driven Down - ...And Now I'm Gone
-
My top ten songs based on Play Count on my iPod are:
Woo!
You have curly hair, a perpetually 'interested' expression on your face and like the colour green (forest, not mint) and you generally rule.
How'd I do?
-
My audioscrobbler stopped working for some reason a while ago, so heres some recent tracks:
1. Cream - Strange Brew
2. Kernkraft 400 - Zombie nation
3. Rachmaninov - Complete works for Piano and Orchestra
4. Talib Kweli - Listen
5. NOFX - Dinosaurs will Die
6. Led Zeppelin - Dancing Days (How the West was won)
-
Last 10 songs played on my iPod:
Cathedral - Satanikus Robottikus
Exodus - I Am Abomination
Strapping Young Lad - Wrong Side
Arch Enemy - The First Deadly Sin
Shadow Gallery - The Andromeda Strain
Isis - The Beginning and the End
Planet X - Ataraxia
Ayreon - Day Fourteen: Pride
Kamelot - Nothing Ever Dies
Testament - Disciples of the Watch
LOL Prog :-)
You have long wavy hair and are partial to wearing frilly open silk shirts and leather pants. You spend a vast amount of time in front of a wind machine with one foot on a foldback speaker. You appreciate Early 70's Genesis albums in a completely non-ironic manner.

You got into heavy music through mainstream mallcore and are just starting to see the light of trOO and kvlt metal. You used to
wear baggy pants and Slipknot tshirts, but you've transitioned to tight jeans and shirts with undecipherable band names on them. How's that for sweeping generalizations?
-
LOL Prog :-)
You have long wavy hair and are partial to wearing frilly open silk shirts and leather pants. You spend a vast amount of time in front of a wind machine with one foot on a foldback speaker. You appreciate Early 70's Genesis albums in a completely non-ironic manner.
That was pretty funny, actually, but the last sentence is the only correct part of it.

I will quote a song that I think was probably written about you. You like to "drink and drink and drink and drink and drink and drink and FIGHT!". You're the guy at shows who has his fist raised solidly in the air as you sing along. And you like to drink! You dress hobo-chic, and have at least beard scruff because you're always too hungover to shave.

Hahaha... you've pretty much got me pegged with the Buck O'Nine/Flogging Molly/Whatever-other-bands-happened-to-play-this song lyric. Well, except maybe hobo-chic... I'm probably just kinda dirty looking (so, minus the chic).
As for the lame scruffy beard and drinking, 'tis true (display picture = me drunk, wearing a tablecloth as a cape)
The generalizations work!

You're slightly more indie then me, but its indie as in 'indie pop'. You grew up on oldies radio and can't get into a song unless its got a good tune to it. Like alot of us you think you're revolutionary but are really afraid to go beyond things that don't affirm your own childhood.

Are you in Sydney? The UNSW Gameplayers club meets every Wed and Friday. I can direct you to the rooms... there's a guy named Mikhaili who runs dungeon crawls. He's always got big speakers hanging off his ears blasting metal? If you're not him, you probably like him.
Or you're going to slit my throat. I've been reading about Norweigian Black Metal types lately

I live near Chicago, don't play D&D or LARP or whatever and generally don't like other metalheads. And i'm not going to slit your throat. Although i have long hair and somewhat intimidating look and love scaring people who make too many generalizations.

Seriously, let's be friends! You're into real music, manly music- none of this wimpy indie shit i've been listening too lately. The closest you come to emo is Baba O' Riley, which is pretty damn close... but who cares if you're crying into your beer with Tom Waits? I prefer the term "elitist". Also, because I don't have an iPod (I prefer a decent sound quality hardware-wise and FLAC support), Winamp 2.x gets the job done without hogging RAM and there's no last.fm plug-in for that.

You just... like bands. Someone recomends a band and you get into them. You're not too futzed about genre, though you're either entering an indie phase and leaving a metal phase or leaving a metal phase and entering an indie phase. You get attached to bands, though.
Also (not looking at your profile) you're either an Aussie or know an Aussie, since TISM is pretty Aussie/viral through that Everybody Else Has Had More Sex cartoon

You have an extensive knowledge of music theory, own a long black coat and probably a large amount of other black clothing (tasteful clothing though, we're talking poet not cheesy metaller) and read German philosophy while drinking red wine.
Haha, pretty close, I wouldn't call my music theory knowledge extensive, though its decent, I actually know more about music history. I do own a black wool overcoat, and nice plain black tshirts make up a substantial part of my wardrobe. I actually prefer German theology or history to philosophy, though I've read my fair share of Kant. Overall, good job.

Okay substitute some less crappy pop metal band for Slipknot. And I was just using troo and kvlt as a joking way of referring to underground metal of any genre. Your list looks kind of like mine would have about 4 years ago, had Last.Fm existed back then.

I listened to Picaresque more or less nonstop when it came out. I still like it a lot, but it has somewhat disproportionate representation on my top tracks since usually when I am in the mood for a particular band I have more than one album and listen to everything I've got by them until I feel like listening to something different.

You really, really, like rock groups. No matter the form, if its got skillful guitars and great singing, you like it. You probably look like an average young person. I imagine you in jeans and a t-shirt. You don't like fast food. You are a dog person. Your mother loves you. You live in Adelade.... or maybe Perth. You find babies strangely delicious.

You like quite a few good bands and would generally have a good taste in everything, Steely Dan also tells me that you probably don't give too much importance (if at all) to what you are "supposed" to listen to
. In other words, you and I would probably get along rather well.

Camo shorts, plugs, tattoos and a ticket to Hellfest (or if you're British Ninjafest). In a few years you'll probably ditch the 'core stuff and find that you mainly listen to nice bands like Death Cab For Cutie and drive an SUV or something.
youbelongtothecity on the other hand, I'd say you're stuck with it. You've probably been listening to hardcore and DIY stuff for quite a few years but you aren't that old, probably early twenties. I'd imagine you play in a band, do a label, put on gigs or do something or other in the scene. You most likely own a sweater, plenty of badges and a lot of the same records I do.

You play far too much video games for own good. As a result, your skin is pasty, you hair is long, but you aren't fat due to strenuous air guitaring you do as you rock the fuck out to power metal. You think traditional fantasy things are preety cool, like fantasy art, and read a lot of fantasy. You probably like science fiction as well. If you don't read inverloch (http://seraph-inn.com/) you probably should.
How did I do?
-
haha, extremely accurate actually; though I'm just now checking out this "inverloch," and I dont have long hair... not right now at least... I guess I dont pose much of a challenge; a random shuffle of my music brings up amon amarth, wintersun, loads of power metal, some nerdcore hip hop, chiptunes/game soundtracks, and then a couple Summoning tracks in there, sprinkle in some black metal on some shuffles.
Scytale- tough to pin by those. I have most of these songs, but I don't believe you are anything like me.

haha I'm only 18 and I've only been listen to hardcore for like a year. I don't have a band currently though I'm starting a couple, and I would like to put on shows.
but this is very high praise!

Sigh...I have actually heard of almost all of these bands...you wear really, really tight jeans, have short spiky hair, wear eyeshadow, tie a kercheif around your left legto go to shows, hang a massive keychain from your belt...and like Christian metalcore way too much for your own good...and when your not listening to metalcore you listen to pseudo-industrial.
