Title: Hatred
Post by: Grawsith on 14 Oct 2006, 17:26
Simple question.

What music do you hate? Please give legitimate reasons, not just "they suck" or "the bass player's a rapist" etc.

I'll start:

- Any slow, sentimental music that talks about how life was good but now is bad. I DESPISE THESE SONGS (and nostalgia in general), because my childhood was shit and i'm trying my best to forget it.

I hate 80's cheesy pop songs. Really, it's just makes me sick. I cant stand idiotic new wave for about two minutes.

Also, Trivium. Worst metal band ever? Yes.

I'lll have to think of more, there must be more.

Rap.  I abhor almost all rap.  Any country from the past 10-15 years.  Chet Atkins was good, but the shit coming out now is unworthy of my time.  Uh, that about covers the genres that I hate pretty much every song of.  I don't really listen to enough radio to stumble upon other tripe.

Post by: Grawsith on 14 Oct 2006, 18:03
Rap, when played on the radio, cos they bleep or mute every second word, so it's like:

"I went to that motherBLEEP's house to BLEEP his BLEEP while I BLEEPed his sister in the BLEEP."

Loud and clear, asshole. Loud and clear.

I don't like pop country mostly because then people can get away with saying "I like all music except country!". Country, just like every other genre ever, does have some good stuff and I hate when overgeneralizations occur due to the popular stuff being shit.

How dare you mention the evil that is country!

Seriously, my bitch stepmother listened to it all the time, and just go nuts when i hear it. I try and drown it out, but usually to no avail. Which is why i hate her and never visit. (Well, that and the fact that she's a crazy bitch who despises children.)

It's really not so bad once you discover bluegrass. It's just the "Top 40" country or Pop Country or whatever you want to call it that sucks. There is a lot of good stuff! Like the Del McCoury Band and and and Alison Krause (though she is kinda popular) and Roddy Crowell and stuff.

(If this is a dumb question, forgive me.)

No, it's not dumb if you're never been exposed to it.

BASICALLY it is really super traditional dudes playing banjos and fiddles. Think the stuff on O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Pretty much all popular British music since about 1989, especially shit rock bands like Oasis and the Arctic Monkeys. Commercial hip-hop. Lady Sovereign.

I don't like to dismiss entire genres, because there's  nearly always something I can enjoy somewhere.  And even with stuff I almost never like, I wouldn't go so far as to declare hatred.

The closest I get I think is the whiny emo/pop-punk area. I definitely hate Simple Plan. More than any other band I know of. Overprivileged white males singing about how much their lives suck just makes me SO ANGRY.  If the music sucks, well ok, to each his own. I don't like to begrudge people things that make them happy, even if it's not my thing. But Simple Plan and similar bands just absolutely disgust me.  Oh poor me, I'm a middle class white male born in North America and I am in a famous band. God hates me SO MUCH to give me this TERRIBLE LIFE! UGH just thinking about Simple Plan's lyrics makes me want to punch someone. Like the lead singer. In the throat.

Also: Linkin Park. Listening to Linkin Park makes me feel like my soul is being corroded by acid. I just want to curl up and whimper.

I'm definitely with Khar on the hating commercial hip-hop. Nothin' wrong with good stuff that doesn't preach the greatness of "gunz'n'hos"...

gunz aren't really all that great.

Sexually transmitted diseases either.

Also, what's so bad about ska?

To all you people who said they hated rap:  I must object on the same grounds that BrittanyMarie used to object to the hatred of country.

While Top 40 rap, being all "Guns, Rape, Ass and Tits" is undoubtably shit, there is a lot of good underground stuff.  Judging all rap by the top 40 woud be like judging all rock music by the top 40.  Bad.  Don't do it.

Personally, I've recently fallen for The Disposable Heroes of Hiphopriscy (I'm quite sure I spelt that wrong), but there is a lot of stuff you should all check out.  Don't foget all the awesome stuff you get when people do Hip-Hop + something else, like say, the Cat Empire (Hip-hop/Latin/Jazz).  Awesome.

I don't know if Reggaeton is as big in the States and everywhere else anyone here seem to come from, but, sweet baby jesus, i despise it. Profoundly. Those who hate rap might hate this abortion of a genre as well. It's basically gangsta rap except for the fact that it's sung by Centro-american and Puerto rican "drug-dealers" who, lacking even the most basic of rhyming skills, resort to having women repeat some complicated version of slang for "FUCK ME" ad infinitum. As if that did not completely fulfill the requisites of bad taste, they fill whatever part of the song is not entirely plastered with the vulgar chant of the afore mentioned women with...other women...moaning.

Yes what is wrong with Ska?

I give you The Specials for example - They are an excellent band.

Unless you mean bands who are 'punk/ska/soooooooo xxxxxxxxcore OH-EM-GEE'. They are just bad muscians who can neither master jazz or punk. If you can't play punk you really do suck.

Post by: a pack of wolves on 15 Oct 2006, 04:42
Ska's like a less annoying version of reggae, since at least it's a little more upbeat and when you're on a night out with people in their thirties they're guaranteed to embarrass themselves on the dancefloor if anyone plays any two-tone. But it's still bad, it just looks good compared to the soul crushing horror that is dub. I feel depressed just thinking about it, I need to go listen to some screamo to perk myself up.
Title: Re: Hatred

Pretentious indie crap. And the people who are pretentious about it.
Ska. A festering plague of people who can't sit still and think reggae is beneath them.
Reggae. Stupid genre for people who are stuck 5 decades ago.
House/dance/trance. Emotinally dead music for ditto people.
Soul. Lullabies for whiners.
Celine Dion and her clones. Replacement emotions for people who want to say:'She really connects to my soul ... '
Boybands and most other popmusic. Money making tools. And we all know it, people.
Christian anything. people who belief in fairytales should have their voting rights taken away. And they should not be allowed to create ANYTHING.

I may have missed something.

I'll get back to you.
Title: Re: Hatred
Post by: fatty on 15 Oct 2006, 06:31
anybody can hate. It's too easy.

There is no achievement in finding something to hate and it's a negative emotion, so why are we do we seem to enjoy hating and talking about hating so much?
Title: Re: Hatred
Post by: KharBevNor on 15 Oct 2006, 06:38
The idea of negative and positive emotions are a false dichotomy. Anything that inspires you to action is a 'positive' emotion; it is no more difficult to love than to hate. I'd far rather people hated things strongly than made a false, half-hearted effort to try and like everything. The only negative things are prejudice and bigotry. Unless we have something to despise and something to aspire to, where the hell are we going?
Title: Re: Hatred
Post by: fatty on 15 Oct 2006, 07:13
i agree with that, but in this case we are talking about music. Surely we don't need to hate music because it is not our style? No one said you had to like a type of music, but surely you don't need to hate it? It may only be my opinion that there are more important things to save our "passionate fevour" for.
Title: Re: Hatred
Post by: a pack of wolves on 15 Oct 2006, 07:39
I have more than enough passionate fervour in me to spend a little on reggae and still have more than enough bitterness and hatred left over for all the other things I despise. And that's not a short list. Besides, hate's so enjoyable! Everyone enjoys a good bitch-fest, it's a beautiful thing and not to be tarnished.

It's not like there's anything like a limited quantity of hate in my bones.

Post by: KharBevNor on 15 Oct 2006, 08:45
I haven't ever heard anything I like by any of those rap groups/mcs/whatever either. Maybe because most of them just remind me of the Captain Planet rap. I don't hate them though. Fifty Cent is a shitlicker, but Flava Flav is cool by me, I just don't listen to his music.

As for country, even though I never mentioned, I dunno. Cash, an oft-given example, doesn't, imo, fit neatly into the standard idea of country very well, and Dylan is plain and simple folk/folk rock 95% of the time, at least on his best material.

The only thing I hate more than emo is when people think they have one up by pressing emos 'correct' definition. And don't come back at me with the black metal thing either: there are far more fans and bands who use emo to describe stuff like Bullet For My Valentine than ever talked about the older bands like that. Whilst this situation persists, calling such bands emo best communicates to the widest possible audience the meaning I am implying.

There's a lot of music I dislike, but not all that much that I hate.  Merely being awful music isn't enough to qualify for the latter category, which is reserved for things like Prussian Blue and Toby Keith; it has to do bad, not just be bad.
Title: Re: Hatred
Post by: TrueNeutral on 15 Oct 2006, 11:54
Hm. There's not a lot of stuff that I really hate. I generally like most things. I'm not too fond of rap, but I have to admit I'm not really well-versed in the genre so it may be partially my fault. I even like some nu-metal and hell, I even gave Creed a fair chance (in their defense; their first album has some pretty good songs about... something).

That being said, there are a few things I can come up with. First, there's Panic! At The Disco because their entire sound is just completely annoying. Second, Cradle Of Filth pisses me off for some reason I can't put my finger on. Last, but definately not least; there's Nirvana. I absolutely hate Nirvana.
Title: Re: Hatred
Post by: Johnny C on 15 Oct 2006, 12:34
Tommy, that's because the word "goth" definitely does not describe those bands. He might say "Evanescence" and in a sense he would be right with that one.

Whether people like it or not, "emo" has come to define... well, the sort of thing that raises hackles. There was a thread in which we suggested calling it "de-pop" and I believe that is what I would like to start calling emo. I think if everyone on this forum could do that, it would a) effectively take "emo" back, and b) give bands like Panic! At The Disco a name befitting of their music and a derogatory term we can use.

I think that what I'm saying here is, "There is a new term that would be swell to use."

A lot of Elvis, specifically the hilariously gay 'Jailhouse Rock' because the guitar player isn't playing properly.

Most gangsta rap. I love rap music, but outside of a few of the pioneers and some recent greats, gangsta rap is the preserve of mainstream idiots with nothing to say. Tupac basically redefined the genre, and now there's really very little need for any more.

Most dance music. That includes most underground stuff as well.

Synth pop. I'm sorry Iris, I see very little difference between you and Scooter. And I think your bass player's a rapist.

danielson famile (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danielson_Famile) though! what a fucking great band!

YES.
Br. Danielson or Danielson or whatever Daniel Smith is going by these days came through Fargo on the same day as Two Gallants did so they did a coheadlining gig. And I couldn't go because I am too young.

I hate overrated dead guys! As soon as they die, they become martyrs for rock especially if they were mediocre in the first place. I'm looking at you, Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain...

Screw you. I felt like that growing up, even if the music is lame. Never listened to that stuff though.....

I hate any metal thats just loud and growly. Like 80s stuff is fun, but i don't get 'RARRR WE ARE THE HATEDEATH GRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL' .
For fuck's sake... its music. Put some fun into it or put some emotion or thought into it, but don't just play chords and growl.
I'm sure somebody will explain to me how musically complex that kind of metal is, but its not my thing

Nu-metal, but NOBODY likes nu-metal.

I like country, though.. old stuff and even a bit of the pop stuff. You can't have rock with country AND blues...

I would like to add myself to the already rather impressive list of people who hate ska.

Also: Basically every "indie" band from Germany right now. Jesus Christ, do I ever hate Wir Sind Helden. And gangsta rap from Germany. I'm sorry guys, but it doesn't work.
And how could I forget people who cram their religious beliefs into most of their lyrics, no matter the genre or the religion (and in this case, I consider atheism a religion as well).

And finally all those bands who gave what emo once was a bad name. And it all started with Texas Is The Reason and Sunny Day Real Estate. Goddamn.
