I recently ordered the newly remastered version of Politics of Ecstasy online because I didn't actually own a Nevermore album. I've been listening to it in my car and on my iPod, and it's basically reminded me why I love this band so damn much. I've made an uneasy truce with Dane's voice, because his lyrics are so integral to the band's style and there are some points on songs where his vocals fit the bleak, nihilistic anger of the song perfectly. And I have probably mentioned this before, but I really, really like Jeff Loomis's guitar playing. So, if you are also a fan of this band, discuss things about them!
Topics such as:
Favorite song/track? Why?
Is Jeff Loomis God?
Seen them live? If so, how were they?
What genre are they, really? Or does it even matter?
How stoked are you for their next album?
Seriously, how fucking good is Jeff Loomis?
-
Favorite song/track? Why?
"The River Dragon Has Come", do I even need to say why, 3:14 mark the fucking guitar solo incredible.
Is Jeff Loomis God?
No, but he coems close.
Seen them live? If so, how were they?
Never seen them live
What genre are they, really? Or does it even matter?
I say Trad metal with a bit of prog on the earlier albums (particularly Dreaming Neon Black) doesn't matter at all unless you're one of those elitist genre snobs.
How stoked are you for their next album?
I enjoyed This Godless Endevor so I'll definately get there next album. Not jumping out of my skin waiting for it.
Seriously, how fucking good is Jeff Loomis?
Pretty damn good.
I'd rate their works thusly
1. Dead Heart in a Dead World
2. In Memory
3. Dreaming Neon Black
4. This Godless Endevor
5. S/T
6. Politics in Ectasy
7. Enemys of Reality
Damn that was harder then I thought, pretty much all there stuff is good.
Have you heard Sanctuary (I've only heard parts of "Refuge Denied" but it sounded pretty good).
-
Sanctuary > all Nevermore.
I've never been able to get into the band. :|
-
I've never really 'got' Nevermore either, despite everyone raving about them.
And I've seen them live.
-
Favorite song/track? Inside Four Walls. A friend gave me his copy of Dead Heart In a Dead World to listen to, that song made me go "WHOA, this is awsome".
Is Jeff Loomis God? Almost.
Seen them live? If so, how were they? No :(
What genre are they, really? Or does it even matter? I think you can put them under Thrash
How stoked are you for their next album? Well, it's on my "albums to get" list.
-
Favorite song/track? Narcosynthesis Why? It's actually the first song I heard by them and the one that got me completely hooked. Back then and still now I was blown away by Warrel's vocals and his ability to put the amount of feeling he puts in every syllable.
Is Jeff Loomis God? Ouch, no religion talk here. I had a really good comment for this  Anyway... Uhm, no. But he does manage to touch my every fiber with every riff, does that count? :-D
Seen them live? Nope If so, how were they? Heh.
What genre are they, really? Or does it even matter? Who cares about genres... Genres have gone awry since last decade or so anyway. Look at what HIM did... Love Metal... :|
How stoked are you for their next album? Pretty stoked, I'd say :-D
Seriously, how fucking good is Jeff Loomis? Dude, how many times do I have to say it? :-P
-
I just like a few riffs Jeff Loomis does. not a huge fan, sorry. And although Jeff Loomis is good, there are definitely better metal guitarists out there.
-
Ah, I love Nevermore.
Favorite song/track?: let's see, that's hard... "Narcosynthesis", I think. I just love the lyrics and the structure, the feel.
And the chorus is awesome.
Is Jeff Loomis God?: Quite possibly. He's one of the most balanced guitarists I've ever heard, and skilled.
Seen them live? If so, how were they?: Ah, I have not. Wish I could have caught them on Gigantour.
What genre are they, really? Or does it even matter?: As always, matters it does not. But that's a hard question
to answer anyway. I just consider them metal with proggressive elements. They're hard to categorize any further.
How stoked are you for their next album?: Insanely, how can I not look forward to more?
Seriously, how fucking good is Jeff Loomis?: Godly.

i heard phantom of the opera before...it was good...as piece of comedy
-
I am seriously annoyed. Nevermore was supposed to be coming to play in my city, and then they cancelled because apparently they only sold like 60 tickets. I am not amused at the collective concert-going population of my city.

...Uh huh, you're either one confused hater, or I missed something.
Because they've never done that song/a song called that. And I just
went ahead and checked everything they've ever contributed to
to make sure.
You refering to Nightwish or Iced Earth, perhaps? Try out
insulting the right band when you feel like flaming, it works
way better.
-
Maybe Iron Maiden?
Maybe they're just being a fucktard?
-
Oh yeah, I forgot they did a Phantom of the Opera too.
haven't listened to that in a while.
And I'm leaning towards the latter as the reason.
But, anyway, back to Nevermore. I have a question that
wasn't asked, how about favorite album? I think mine
is Dreaming Neon Black. Great variety and brilliant as always.
-
I have to say that my personal favorite is This Godless Endeavor, but really, choosing between TGE, Dreaming Neon Black, Dead Heart, and Politics of Ecstacy is nearly impossible for me. I like this band a whole bunch.
-
My favorite is Dead Heart in a Dead World, I rated them in my earlier post above, but yeah they are all good.

Man, This Godless Endeavor really was- intended, godly. I find
all of their albums pretty much incredible, I can relate to the difficulty
in choosing.
