Well, I was going to write about the show, but I can't fuckin' compete with that.
-
I would love to hear about the show, actually. I'm seeing them in a week, and want to know what to look forward to.
-
congrats, where did you see them?

Do you make house calls?
$2

I am seeing them friday for $15. But my ticket gets me into another show afterwards for half price so it kicks ass anyways.

I saw them at First Avenue in Minneapolis. It was a good show, nothing really incredible, but pretty solid. They played almost all of Return to the Sea, only omitting "Humans" and "If." Nick forgot some of the lines to a few of the songs and had to sort of mumble a verse. Awkward! Or maybe I just couldn't hear him right. He had a haircut and my friend who was there "couldn't get over how tight his pants were." They also played a Kinks cover and I think three new songs, one of which - "The Arm" - was excellent and the other two of which were certainly good. The keyboardist had a NES controller belt buckle.
The opening acts were Subtitle and Blueprint (not Busdriver, I dunno why.) Subtitle was good, very down-to-earth, and performed almost like he was doing a comedy routine. Kinda sorta. He didn't even have a DJ, just an iPod. He was my favorite of the two rappers on "Where There's A Will There's A Whalebone," and he didn't disappoint me.
The other guy, Blueprint, I didn't care for at all. He seemed like he was trying too hard, and I didn't feel that his rapping was good enough to make up for it. Also he completely dicked around with Busdriver's verse (?) in WTAWTAW and, in my opinion, made it suck.
Still, overall a good show. Not amazing, but I wasn't disppointed.

Cool, my brother was at the Winnipeg show I haven't heard his review yet but I could see Islands putting on a very entertaining show.

Sounds great... I have to pass up on a chance to see them in Norman. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll come back to OK sometime.

Sounds pretty awesome!
I saw them a few weeks ago (but for $14, not $1, boo) in Ottawa....and it was seriously one of the best shows that I've ever seen. They were supposed to have Malajube opening for them here but that got cancelled due to illness. I was so sad. Malajube is a favourite of mine too.
ANYWAYS THOUGH. The show here was supposedly the first of their current tour and as such.....they seemed really really into it and the show was much better for it. I was a bit afeared that they wouldn't do Where There's A Will There's A Whalebone (it's my favourite from Return to the Sea) because they didn't have either Busdriver or Subtitle with them......but! They did it. And they substituted a violin duel for the rap sections. Seriously. Watching Sebastian Chow jumping like a madman while playing the most face-meltingly awesome violin semi-solo EVER was one of the best things I've ever seen.
Um, yeah....and I think the sum total of every attractive person in this city was at that show. So that helped too.
In conclusion, Islands are forever.

I'm seeing them tommorrow, and I am now super-excited for it. I've been listening to their album a lot to get pumped for the show, and it just gets better and better. Can't wait to see how they preform. Coonstar, Rubby, any other Vancouver folks, will you be there?
