I can't use last.fm...it's giving me issues since I'm behind a router.  It hasn't logged a single thing I've listened to with either plugins or the player.  No suggestions for portforwarding anywhere.  Same deal with Foosic, which is basically the resurrection (sic) of freedb.

I stopped using last.fm about a year ago when my computer went belly-up and then to my brother. He used it for some time before i remembered to change the password, but in the meantime he managed to get two songs by the strokes on the top 5 played and blink 182 in the top 10. This will not stand.

Also I think it is pretty awesome that I don't really just sit down and listen to The Beatles or TISM, but they manage to stay far ahead of everyone else at the head of my list because they are the bands I listen to when I am drunk as heck and want to dance.

Well, you seem to like GY!BE, so I'll recommend Milhaven (http://www.last.fm/music/milhaven).  Not exactly the same sound, but very informed and influenced by GY!BE.  They have released an album and an EP, both on the netlabel 12rec, and both the album and the EP are available for free download through the label and Archive.org.  You can find the album here (http://www.archive.org/details/12rec.014") and the EP here (http://www.archive.org/details/12rec.035).

So, I know I'm probably about five years behind on this, but... I don't ever really bother looking into music sites much until they've caught on.  I'm a late-bloomer with most internet things (that way, it hurts me less if/when they fail, like Guzzlefish did).

But anyway, I just randomly decided to go to Last.fm and punch in "Dream Theater," who are probably my favorite band overall.  It... started playing... Iced Earth for me.  Iced.  Earth.

It's like it knows me and wants to be my friend.

I might have to keep exploring this.  I'm just sorry I didn't look into it sooner when my girlfriend showed it to me.

I'm not sure how to explain the appeal of it but I'm a stats whore and I like music so it's pretty much perfect.

Godspeed get through five songs in eighty minutes.

I love it when my top three ends up being Nick Cave, Ryan Adams and Ryan Adams and the Cardinals. I listen to Cold Roses and Jacksonville City Nights THAT MUCH that they are still more than most other artists in their own right.

I went through everyone in this thread, got 3 Lows, 1 Medium, 1 High... rest were all Very Lows but it sounds like that's the case for most of us?!  Funny.

I've got high with a couple of people and a lot of very low's and I'd say about a 1/4 of the people I don't have any artists in common with.

That is bizarre. I do enjoy a lot of the bands on your list but (no offense intended to anybody) I find Rilo Kiley and Nirvana to be near-unlistenable, and I've never heard a lot of them, and a few I've never even heard OF.

Yeah, I'd go with that. It's a solid record but after repeat listens it doesn't have as many stand-out moments as some of the others.

'sok, i rarely listen to modest mouse. but my playlist becomes tainted cuz i can't be bothered to make a real one, i just tell WMP to shuffle the whole library....it's not happy with that always.
in fact, i've all but stopped listening to modest mouse outside a choice few songs.

Our tastes have VERY little in common, but I was thrown into a tizzy to see Penguin Cafe Orchestra at the top of your charts.  The first and last I'd heard of them was back in the mid Eighties - my best friend's older brother was into all kinds of 'odd' music (considering I grew up in Mullet and Camero Central) and had a CD or two from them. I think I have a 3rd-hand copy of Broadcasting from Home on a cassette in my basement somewhere. I just hit Amazon, recognized the cover immediately, and had to buy it.  The samples on Amazon echoed in my head like I'd heard the tracks last week.
