If you DO know Rage, I'm referring to the German one.
Quite frankly, I'm blown away by Rage. They have great composition, awesome technical and artistic skill and a superb vocalist. They're possibly my favourite band at the moment. They know how to function as a band, too, and like most good metal bands, they know how to use quiet and are skilled at build-ups. Hell, I can't really nitpick this band at all, it is, on all accounts, excellent.
Unfortunately, they're not exactly that popular, so finding a place to buy their CDs could be problematic unless you have a few dedicated metal stores near you. There's always the other method... >_>
I know, I know, I'm a hopeless fan. :-P
So, sample locations? Agree? Disagree? Gotta educate you guys, see...
-
Sorry dude. As much as I admire your fan-boyish appearance and as much as I like some metal ... this just doesn't do it for me.
-
Maybe I too will form a band and name it something very close to another famous band. Maybe I'll call the band "Strokes."

This would be an amazing point, if it wasn't for the little fact that Rage was formed in 1983 and adopted their name in 1985.

... metal-nerd.
-
I think we can all agree that RAtM were awful.
-
Whatchu say, whatchu say, whatchu say, whatchu say, Jeph?
-
Rage Against The Machine? Puh-lease, bitches.
Have some metal, kthx. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcIwksxxOn8)
-
Meh. Not bad, but nothing really special.
-
Not one for power metal?
Nerdcore is where it's at, man.
Moar. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQ5m6fXMJD0&mode=related&search=)

Uh, no. It's just cool now amongst the indie folks to say that bands like Rage Against the Machine and Nirvana were awful. They weren't.
-
No, I'm pretty sure Nirvana was terrible. And I don't even like indie.
-
Even if you're gonna nitpick, I hope you at least get the point of what I was saying.
-
My rapier wit is just wasted on you people.
-
Oh I got it, I just didn't think it was worth commenting on.
-
My rapier wit is just wasted on you people.
I too know that song. Very clever how you incorperated Jeph's name into it.
-
Plebians.
-
Since the Prehistoric ages and the days of ancient Greece
Right down through the Middle Ages
Planet earth kept going through changes
And then no renaissance came, and times continued to change
Nothing stayed the same, but there were always renegades
Now renegades are the people with their own philosophies
They change the course of history
Everyday people like you and me
We're the renegades we're the people
With our own philosophies
We change the course of history
Everyday people like you and me
-
You know they didn't write that, right?
-
Plebians.
The word you're looking for is "plebeians."
-
Plesbians?
-

The question is those lyrics they just as silly, hypocritical and ridiculous when Bambaata says them. Mostly silly though.
-
Yeah, the whole militant-communist thing doesn't really work if you consider their paychecks were signed by one of the largest media conglomerates in the world.
-
In fairness didn't de la Rocha go and join a leftist paramilitary in Mexico after the band broke up? I remember hearing that- but it could very well be complete bs. Will google.
Edit:
Wikipedia says he's been working on tracks with some people so apparently not. Some of the collaborators caught my eye though-
DJ Shadow, ?uestlove, etc.
-
It would be amazing if he did come. The EZLN (the afore mentioned "leftist" paramilitary group) could use People of the Sun as their theme song.
-
Metal? On an Indie board?
How could I be so silly?
-
I enjoy Rage (the German metal band).
Pretty good stuff.
-
That makes 2 of us. =D
Gotta stick together, mate...
-
i thought this thread was gonna be about the music video show, sadly no, its a thread about some dude jerking off over a band that no ones heard of.

I'm pretty sure he did do that. Remember, it has been something like six or seven years since the band broke up, so he's had time to do both the things you mentioned.
About the tracks though, he's apparently working on some stuff with Jon Theodore. I'm excited, yet a little skeptical.
-

Philistine.

In all fairness, it can't hurt to try new music.
-
I know, this is going to be great.
-
I'm pretty sure he did do that.? Remember, it has been something like six or seven years since the band broke up, so he's had time to do both the things you mentioned.?
Hmm, if its true it doesn't really deflect the charge or hypocrisy. "Yeah, I used to fight with the Zaptistas but I came back to work with Trent Reznor."
-

Well, in about seven years we've heard maybe two or three songs from him, so I'm gonna lean towards skeptical. I'm filing this one in the same place as "Chinese Democracy"
-
I'd say more people here like metal than whatever the hell 'indie' is.
I'd say the Battle of the Bands more or less shot that theory to hell.

listened to the whole thing. didn't dig it. the singer should have been in the cage getting drowned by the crazy leather dude, then see how much of a real survivor he is. all i could think of was she goes down haha. sorry madass, but i did give it a go champ.

Well, of course he had work off some of that "crazy guerilla" cred he had aquired while with the Zapatistas so he could make a comeback. Hypocrisy is just the way to do that. I jest, of course. . .

It's cool if you didn't dig it, but it isn't cool to have a go at me for liking it.

if you object so passionately to these "quote tunnels" yours problems go beyond "quote tunnels."

I think we can all agree that RAtM were awful.
... ehm, no, we can't. Certainly their first album was excellent.
And I liked Nirvana too.
I do have to be honest and state that this is largely the music that played in the background when growing up. I'm sure I'm not alone in that. The question then becomes: can you really be honest about the soundtrack of your youth. And the answer I give has always been: Meh. I like it.
-
I don't know about RAtM, but I also liked Nirvana quite a bit.
-
Well, then you should get aquainted ASAP. It helps if you know what everyone is bitching about.
I even checked out Slint, for fuck's sake.

IMO their first album was their worst album (not that any of them were bad), but I can certainly agree with you that they were anything but awful.

i didn't have a go at you for liking it. i commented on what i thought the thread could have been about. now you're just being precious. have a long neck and man up damn it.

"i thought this thread was gonna be about the music video show, sadly no, its a thread about some dude jerking off over a band that no ones heard of."
I get the feeling I should be apologising to you for such a terrible assault on your expectations, deary.
-
do they not have sarcasm where you are from?
-
Apparently not...
-
For the enjoyment of the forum at large, I shall now summarize every PG Wodehouse work ever written.
"Oh, I do say, we are quite the group of upper-class British gentlemen, if slightly buffoonish in our comfort and status."
"Oh indeed my good man."
"There appears to be a comic misunderstanding arising from some vaguely worded remark!"
"Oh dear, this is quite a situation."
"Now I must dress as a woman to infiltrate some group or to learn some information without discovery."
"Ripping good plan old boy."
"My, there are quite some hijinks that result from this endeavor!"
"Anyone for a round of cricket?"
-
I even checked out Slint, for fuck's sake.
I think we ALL made that mistake :|
-
I didn't, as yet my life has been mistake free, music-wise! You know, aside from my nu-metal phase when I thought KoRn and Slipknot were great ideas...
-
I'd say more people here like metal than whatever the hell 'indie' is.
Also, I think Nirvana and RAtM were pretty good. As long as I don't have to listen to them, I don't really have a problem with either band.
There are worse bands you could play at me.
Kurt Cobain was into K Records and early twee stuff, which makes him okay in my wimpy notebook with hearts on it

RAGE is great. I'm from America, and most of our TV shits on Aussie TV... but we still don't have a real place to see music videos. RAGE actually shows music videos. Briulliant!
-
when i was smaller i used to tape them when someone i liked was programming. i think i still have the nine inch nails one somewhere, that would be like 7 or 8 years old now haha. also a few punk specials too.
