The radio station I work for has been playing 4 Christmas songs per hour since Thanksgiving. All of the stores around here play it constantly. The town I work in plays it nonstop during the day on loudspeakers that are set up on Main Street. I am sick of hearing it!* Who's with me?
*with the exception of that one song that Ben Folds did a few years ago...can't remember the name, but the part of it that goes "Well, Santa was a big fat fuck...fell down the chimney, got his old ass stuck. Honey, call the lawyers fast, cause Mrs. Claus is gonna sue my ass" is a win in my book...

Christmas songs I like, and I am a sucker for Christmas songs, by the way:
Whichver that one that Shakin' Stevens did. No, really.
Elton John - Step Into Christmas
The Pogues - Fairytale Of New York (obviously. The greatest Christmas song of all time)
My own Christmas song, 'A Very Cheesy Christmas,' a deliberately shit, ironic Christmas instrumental that I'm actually quite proud of.
Blink 182 - Happy Holidays You Bastard
Blink 182 - I Won't Be Home For Christmas

Christmas time is here again
Time to give your cash to them
At the cross is where we'll meet
Leaving presents at his feet
Buy your gifts in harmony
Feed the Christmas industry
Fuck Christmas! All the time
Now I've got my yuletide pride!
Fuck Christmas! All the time
I've got Jesus on my side!
Fuck Christmas! Fuck Christmas!
Fuck Christmas! All the time!
Jesus came and Jesus went
Look at all the cash we spent
Mother Mary you will see
Never bought a Christmas tree
Christmas is for me and me
I give only to receive
Fuck Christmas! All the time
Now I've got my yuletide pride!
Fuck Christmas! All the time
I've got Jesus on my side!
Fuck Christmas! Fuck Christmas!
Fuck Christmas! All the time!
Christmas time is here again ...
Fuck Christmas! All the time
Now I've got my yuletide pride!
Fuck Christmas! All the time
I've got Jesus on my side!
Fuck Christmas! Fuck Christmas!
Fuck Christmas! All the time!
Fuck Christmas! All the time!
He was fuckin' born in August anyway ...

the only thing that really bothers me about the incessant christmas music-ing from the day after halloween until new year's day is the fact that it makes me feel totally left out. what do the jews get? the effing dreidel song and adam sandler. christmas carols make me wonder if they weren't designed to make us want to convert just so we don't feel lonely. jerkfaces.
-
Khar, that's great. ?Where's it from? (I'm too lazy to google...)

You also get Barenaked Ladies' Christmas/Hannukah (I know I spelled that wrong) album.

that doesn't make me feel any better about it all. of course, if we're going to have holiday songs, i say what the jewish community really needs to make is passover songs. that would trump the annoyingness of christmas carols. 'oh save a seat for elijah, something something something' i'm not a songwriter. stupid christmas carols :|

I can stand (note, I said stand, not enjoy) Christmas music. It's more the fact that I work at a local, family owned grocery store and starting the day after Thanksgiving I have to hear it all the god damn time from then until after New Year's. It drives me insane...Sometimes I become like a man, broken, who whistles along with his captors as they flay his back with a whip in some distant nation's military prison camps. Years later I find out that the song they were whistling is 'Ninja Rap' by Vanilla Ice and collapse into a puddle of my own tears and vomit.
....I'm sorry, what was I saying again??
-
Isn't Blackmoore's Night bringing a Xmas album out this year? Might that solve something? Plus, LoreenaMcKennit's winter albums are quite good, actually ...
-
Paranthetical Girls put out a great Christmas album, and The City on Film's track for suburban sprawl's XMas soundtrack a couple years ago is pretty cute.
I like Christmas music a bunch, though I can see how it would get really old if you had to hear it so much.
-
I like Trans-Siberian Orchestra, they have some really good Christmas songs.
-
I am trying to score TSO tickets for my mom as a christmas gift.
Also, I've been listening to Sufjan Stevens' christmas EPs a TON. they're awesome.

"Bizarre Christmas Incident."
-
Try anything by Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Nothing quite adds up to hearing Christmas tunes and ass-ripping metal all rolled up into one.

Yes.
Low did a Christmas record. It's wonderful.
Does it make me a moron if I only just recently realized Low lyrics have a pretty healthy Christian bent to them?? At any rate, I think they'd make Christmas even more depressing than it already is for me.
-
Alex Skolnick was in Trans-Siberian Orchestra, so by default it's amazing.
Plus, come on, it's Christmas metal. It's the best idea that seems like it would fail horribly but didn't ever!
-
The Trans-Siberian Orchestra is one of the greatest things ever.
That being said, Christmas music should not be played as the sole thing on a station until at least December 10th. One of the radio stations in my town plays nothing but christmas music 24 hours a day starting on the Sunday before thanksgiving (I believe that's when it started).
-
It was December 24th on Hollis Ave. in the dark...
-
queen have a carol, so do the smashing pumpkins
i work in retail. damn carols all the time
-
I've not heard any christmas music so far... i'm sure things will change tomorrow.
I once went to watch the Christmas special of Stars In Their Eyes being filmed.
In May. :(
-
Oh so true. I may only be 15 but at the moment im doing a bit of work experience and they constatly play Christmas music. I don't find it absolutly horrifing but come on how many times do they have to play silent night? twice a day is enough let alone an hour! Even as I began to write this some add on the television started playing christmas music, sure its all happy and exictable? but its just played far to much in any shop/work place.
-
I'm going to take this opportunity to add the first verse of 'Happy Holidays, You Bastard' by Blink 182
It's Christmas Eve and I've only wrapped two fuckin' presents
Christmas Eve and I've only wrapped two fuckin' presents
And I hate hate hate you
Yes I hate hate hate you
And I'll never talk to you again (unless your mom will touch my cock)
And I'll never talk to you again (unless your dad will suck me off)
And I'll never talk to you again (ejaculate into a sock)
And I'll never talk to you again, I'll never talk to you again'

I like Holidays of Horror by Macabre
'Simmons went crazy
Murdered sixteen
Fourteen of them family
He killed them
For the holidays
Merry Christmas
He gunned his family down
His bullets were their presents
Dead relatives all around
Happy New Year
One they won't be here to see
It's the holiday of horror
Because of Ronald Gene
Simmons
He built a wall
Around his trailer home
So the neighbours would leave him alone
And he didn't want them to see
How he abused his family
Merry Christmas
He gunned his family down
His bullets were their presents
Dead relatives all around
Happy New Year
One they won't be here to see
It's the holiday of horror
Because of Ronald Gene
Simmons'
It's actually a pretty funny song when you hear it

this is the first year in ages that i don't work in retail so i don't have to hear my old shop's 1 xmas cd on repeat for 9 hours a day. working in a call centre means no music....ever, but it just makes it all the sweeter when i listen to my discman on the bus trip home.
-

Next store I enter playing that will be destroyed in a fiery rage.

Is that a promise or just another empty threat?
