If aliens came to Earth, what kind of music do you think they would like most? Let's assume they didn't really have any kind of music in their own culture.
My guess is classical.

They would listen to things we don't consider music, but not knowing any better, would think is what we call music.
-
They would listen to crying babies.
-
They would all fall in love with Nirvana, and they would start wearing ripped up clothes and Nirvana shirts all the time.
-
GAMMARAY (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamma_Ray_(band)).
Or maybe Star One (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Metal_(Star_One))!
In all honesty, they probably would listen to something completely out of this world, with a completely different sense of scale and timing and stuff. But if they took a liking to earth music, it would totally be power metal, specifically power metal about aliens :-D

Now, you said the aliens had no music of their own. So this would be their first introduction to music? Now, when humans are introduced to music for the first time, what do they like? I would say classical, in the case of infants, but the aliens would not be infants. They would be potentially less likely to be scared or upset by loud music. So, they would be completely intelligant being that could judge music from a completely objective point of view.
Classical seems very likely, but part of me wants to say they'd like hip-hop. Or dance music. Something with a repeatative groove. It would hypnotize them, like a lava lamp. And that is how we will defeat our alien invaders.

hah, I like that idea

Maybe Mogwai. Big, scary, hypnotizing guitars, and rarely any annoying human languages to worry about translating.
-
I still say Nirvana. They'd be grunge terrestrials.
-
Smells like PITIFUL PULING HUMAN spirit.
-
Bach.
(The composer that is, not the dude from Skid Row)
-
The Knack.
-
Enon's High Society.
Album Leaf's One Day I'll Be On Time
Uh...some Yo La Tengo. 'I can hear the heart beating as one' probably.
Bedhead's whatfunlifewas
Boards of Canada's Geogaddi
Califone. Doesn't really matter which.
I dare not play anything that's on my iTunes right now to an alien lifeform.
Also, Hey Gryff! I'm getting better at this no?
