As the title suggests, I want to know how you get the music that you don't pay for, you
awesome people filthy thieves.
Limewire here, but unsatisfied with it.

Soulseek has pretty much let me find everything that I've wanted. Other than that, Bittorrent is useful.

Soulseek and Bittorrent usually fit most peoples needs, but I throw in DC++ just for kicks.

Demonoid and/or Rockbox (currently down) if I can't find it there, I check BTJunkie, and If I can't find it there, I slsk. If I still can't find it, I say fuck it. I am not gonna bother with Oink, I can't have a good ratio no matter what I do, the stuff I look for takes forever to pick up leechers. Been through three accounts with it already.

Soulseek for me too. I've got a few friends with big collections and fast connections, so wandering around their mp3s and picking up random things I like the sound of is always rewarding.

I did use BearShare for a while, but it sucks. So, I got WinMX, which may or may not suck even more.

We should start a QC Soulseek chat room, my soulseek user name is the same as my user name here on the forums. I dont have much to download from yet but I'm sorting all of my music now and in a few days I'll share about 4000 files.

The only 'illegal' music I download is what other people directly send me or link me to. I don't do BitTorrent or LimeWire or any of that shite.

Bittorrent. I get all my stuff from Demonoid. It's a pain in the ass when like 50 of the things I want don't have any fucking seeders though. That's what sucks about invite-only torrent sites. What rocks is that you're waaaaay less likely to get tainted shit.

The winner. I did the same thing for a while, but quickly found that out of our library's vast collection, it had very little I wanted.
Nowadays I use WinMX if I'm after a specific tune, but Usenet for window shopping. Most of you are way too young to know what Usenet is, but us old fogies swear by it.

Mostly through random torrents (not active enough to be on oink), I know soulseek is very helpful but for some reason it just doesn't like me. I also go by Coonstar on it.

No one has mentioned Shareaza? Personally I'm very fond of this program. Tried Limewire once an'd got a virus downloading "Pocket Tanks Deluxe" haha. Guess I should have know better than to download small exe files of P2P networks.

selection is pretty limited. It IS a good program, except for pr0n. People renaming shit all over the place. but like i was saying...there is some stuff I have only been able to find on slsk. by default, most other p2p programs have files that are all in torrents.

Anyway, I had one file finish downloading (typically pr0n-like named) and I open it, and it's a picture of an old lady giving the camera the finger with the caption "WANK THIS!"

i used soulseek, i might re-download it because nothing else is working. i tried limewire but it couldn't get past my firewall no matter how many security restrictions i lowered/turned off. piece of crap. and the help site wasn't much help at all. most of those torrent sites are invite only and i don't know anyone who uses them. so it looks like going back to soulseek may be my only option. bah.

ouch... I would say I know what you mean, but I really don't. Although downloading pr0n is always a gamble, with tricksy-wittle peoples always running around the interweb causing mischief.
And to actually anwser the topic, I'm strictly a Bittorrent guy myself. I download on the occasion, but usually try to buy what I really like. It also helps for any movies of shows on the tele that I might miss and need to catch up on. As a casual loader, I would choose Bittorrent all the way.

Does anybody use iTunes / other online music stores? Most of my stuff is Limewire, but occasionly i'll pick something up off there (video's mostly).

#1, she was completely clothed, it was to make the chronic pron-downloaders rethink what they were doing
#2, I laughed for a full five minutes at that.
also, no matter how hard I try, I can't find that file again, damn it.
On an unrelated note, I got this English assignment the other day about grammar as a warmup since people in my class fail. So, one part is the simplest thing ever: given a sentence, identify what part of speech the underlined word is. IF the word was a pronoun, we had to write "PRON" next to the sentence. giggle.

I have a story kind of like that. When I was in junior-high, my US History teacher was covering US independance, and she did a review of the Boston Tea-Party. One thing led to another, and everybody was giggling whenever the teacher said 'tea-bag'. She ended up going home, and emailing a friend asking what "tea-bag" meant, and then had a great laugh at us the next day when she told us she found out what it was. She also screamed that we were perverts, but you are only young once. It was all in good humor though.

I have the same problem. Occasionally, I'll be able to actually get something, but most of the time it just stalls.
